I was just reading some of the AI threads out there and got this idea... how about if we share experiences about nice A-Spec races?

After the last updates, the AI and physics change, if we use the right cars it can work well! :) (not the regular supa-tuned-turbocharged-rockets-with-soft-slicks that some boys like to use)

This thread is not intended to start a discussion if the AI is good or bad or whatever, the objective its to share experiences then, each of us can try them and have some fun...

Another thing I want to keep in mind is to not get neither too much underpowered or overpowered. The objective is to NOT de-tune your car power... Use a stock car, use a cheaper/weaker car with tuning, but never going back on the power, imho its annoying to get a sports car and de-tune it... a 350hp Audi R8 its just too stupid to be true... and never use slicks, unless its a touring car race or something like that.

I'll start with 2 races I did this weekend:

Schwarzwald Liga B - Nurburgring Nordschleife: use any original german sports car and you'll get a nice race... (of course, if you use the R8 V10, it'll be easier, but try with a stock E46 M3 or a 135i and you'll get it, if you want a special challenge, the CL600 Benz is your car...) I've had an awesome race with a fully tuned MKI GTI... couldn't get 1st with this one... things can get hairy and very competitive on the big straightway @ the end.

MR Sports Cars Challenge - Circuit de La Sarthe: I used a fully tuned Honda NSX-R '92 (standard model) and I got a damn of a nice challenge, using Sport Softs... it was damn hard to hold that Saleen S7 and the Zonda... With a stock MR supersport car it would be a cool race too. Maybe the NSX its just too weak for this one, well who cares, its an awesome challenge... I got 2nd.

Excellent idea! I'd like to add that single make races with a stock car but with reduced tyres (one step or maybe two) can give a good race, albeit slightly boring to race the same cars. Also STANDING STARTS!!! WOOHOO! :)

That's a good idea too... well, if its on A-Spec, its in! Bring it on! :dopey:

Man, I don't know how you guys are doing it without de-tuning your cars by 100hp. It would really help if A-spec had that critical A.I. Characteristics option like Arcade Mode. Seriously, arcade mode? C'mon PD...

💡

Well... an E46 M3 have 343hp, the Audi R8 have 100 more... no need for de-tuning here, just an example... you'll have a weaker car, but still on the german sports car category...

Using a G27 with a H shifter with no assists makes it also interesting, because using the H shifter is not as fast as paddles, or DS3. Also the RX-7 TC seems to be excellent for the Tsukuba 9 hour.

I'm using H shift more and more in practise, I may give it a go in a race....I'm just so crap at downshifting though! Havn't even attempted heel and toe it's just the physical aspect of moving the lever, I fluff a lot of gear changes. Altho I'm often slotting straight from 4th to 2nd now bypassing 3rd, dunno if that's acceptable for racing or not.

I saw this thread earlier and gave it a read over. Right now I am playing and I just ran into a race that made me think of this thread. Get a bone stock 458 Italia (keep the SH tires!) and take it the MR Sports Cup at Deep Forest. You've got to run consistent 1:22.xxx laps and that isn't so easy with all those turns, 575hp, and SH tires. Opponents are SS tires.

I was just throwing various stock MR's at this race, seeing what it would take to win. I still haven't got first place but a few more tries and I think I'll get it. You've just got to very quickly get to the front and try to hold off some of the faster cars.

Edit: I just realized that the 458 Italia doesn't have 575hp bone stock. I think I did a GT oil change because I didn't see any mods on it. I checked it before I posted the first time.

I just took a max tuned Civic Type R ek '97 on the tuned car championship Aspec race at Suzuka, took a few goes to win, dropping to RMs or RHs will make this a good challenge. Altho if the two RUFs show up near the front its a sod on RSs (for me that is!)

damn stock cars only....oh well....this was still a good race!

gotta love how hard we have to try to make our own exciting races. lol. Good effort guys but this should never be an issue in a game like GT. rant over :)

Its really a joke that we got to try tons of cars to find some challenging races... Forza 3 was a great challenge in that way and was really good when you set the AI to hard...

Somehow, T10 went the same way like PD. Forza 4 is even more worse than GT5. I race with 1 lower class cars, only to have a challenge in the first 2 corners, instead of using the same class and win within +10 seconds in a 2 lap race... (what does not mean that I´m a good driver!)

I did the GV race in the premium clio sport and those RUF's were going mental! one of them binned it on the first corner on lap three then fought its way back up from last place to beat me for 5th!

Sounds like fun!! :)

Nürburgring 4h.

I don't get whats fun about using hard cars and bad tyres to make it ''fun''.

Conversely, I don't get what's fun about putting sticky tires on a car and muting all of it's natural handling characteristics to the point all cars feel the same.

Just put on some sports tyres, let it be a little bit faster and just drive.

Because the Ai is just so damn awful. If the game was setup a bit better none of this would be needed.

So true.

I personally find driving a car to the limit to be fun whether fast or slow, good or bad tires. High speeds are cool, but driving hard with little margin for error is exhilarating at most any speed. The less grippy tires also can be quite fun to drive and stay balanced on.

I don't find winning "races" by 45 seconds to be all that fun. GT5 demands Chase the Rabbit style events so I try to have the most fun I can have while in that silly game mode against atrocious unadjustable AI. I'll sometimes spend hours honing my lines and slowly adding minimum upgrades to win one race with an overwhelmed car. Classic Muscle seasonal Laguna in a stock(at first) Z28 being one example. I've made much(most?) of my money by losing.

Currently I've been getting a good challenge from the SuperGT Seasonal in a Tom's SC430 on Sports Softs... as long as the Xanavi Nismo Z is on pole.

Speak on it!

We make these threads because we'd rather spend minutes creating a good race, and hours racing. But we have bought-

GT5: The Real Time-Trial-With-Traffic Simulator.

Yup, I'm having so much fun in the yellowbird, it loses traction all the time but as long as you're ready for it (i.e. every corner!) it relatively easy to collect and control the slide. Havn't tried racing it yet tho! ;)

Why couldn't PD just let us select a PP RANGE(not limit) for Apsec as well, e.g. PP450 - 500 or 180-200 that would ensure a closer pack of racing as well. If PD could give us tools to adjust the game then the Poor Ai wouldn't be so glaring IMO.

So I'v been doing some A-spec racing over the weekend and this is the conclusion I have come too.

I will use the supercar festival as an example.

take any car that is competative in the class, lets say 458 italia (stock)

if you choose SS tyres (same as the opostition) = easy
if you choose SM tyres = medium
if you choose SH tyres = hard

the way I see it tyre compound in GT is equal to a dificulty level in other games. so if you choose the same tyres its EASY. one compound down is MEDIUM. two compounds down HARD.

You will also find that that the AI fight you for position, even in the corners. the only time I found them backing off was when I gave them a good shunt from behind forcing them to brake and try and regain control.
what would be usefull would be for a list of tyres used by the AI in each A-spec event. does anyone know of such a database?

I've had an opposite experience with ai where when I took the outside line they slowed down tremendously once my bonnet was past, because I think they wanted to track out and couldn't. Due to their limited intelligence they knew nothing else but to slow down.

But the tire theory sounds interesting. I really want to go back and try this out.

I think it has a lot to do with each individale AI driver some will have a hot / agresive tempremet others a cool / unagressive tempremnt.

If you quite out after each race it will load a fresh grid with new varibles

also you often see an AI driver looking to overtake another but is bening held up. when thy fianly get on a strate they will leave them for dust

Yeah, I'm trying to watch more the AI behaviour, but looks like its really like you said, some are calm, some are hot.
