Somebody's gotta make a cartoon about that. ( Guy drives up to a S13 k's, trueno, and civic in a Mine's R34 Skyline and asks "hey wanna race? my car meets regulations but my A-spec pts are low".)

Second best post of all time right here..jesus tonight is cool. lol.

I guess one big problem with A-spec points is that you get them for Arcade Mode. They should really differentiate the points you get in Arcade Mode from those in GT mode.

Can't anybody just run races in Arcade Mode to get a ton of A-spec points?

um.. you only get one rating for that event, i think on the page before its explained. like if you got 10 the 1st time, 20 the 2nd time and 50 the 3rd time on your 1st race ever, you will only have 50 pts for your total A-spec rating.. i think? maybe i misunderstood the post on the previus page.

When you have a good game franchise or game series, you'll always want to try new things out, just to keep an old series fresh. This A-Spec deal... I've seen some good and weird ideas as to what they are.

Gorilladf was talking about that these A-Spec points are for bragging rights. Or as I call it jokingly, "b*tching rights." I guess the game wants you to take one car and then greatly, but slowly, mod up your car to be the best there ever was. All I'd say is, if you have the finances to make the car 200% better than stock, then go waste those credits on your ride. I'm still confused myself about this. But when I get GT4 and play it for about a two or three weeks, I'll get it. Like the game or hate the game, you have to admit. At least GT4's trying something new in the franchise. If you ask me, this is a new beginning for the GT series.

Who are you talking to? If you're replying to me I can assure you that Arcade Mode isn't considered a single event.

👍 Great idea ! Tell Penny Arcade, they seem to be the right adress for that kind of comedy....

each track in arcade mode could be considered a single event...

if you race in HongKong normal in arcade mode 3 times, you still only get the highest a-spec points.... so there's no way to get a billion a-spec points by replaying over and over again....
the max points you can get out of the game is 200 times number of races in the whole game including arcade mode + 250 x 34 <---- missions, prob less than 150k a-spec points in total...

Yup! I went out and purchased a lower hp car to enter a race just so I could get MORE a-spec points.

You have to take everything into consideration. I think you will see a LOT of people posting screenshots of their status screens. It tells the whole story by looking at it all.

If it does come to that, we'll have alot of contests and competitions on our hands
(and in the mods' hands), which will be really fun! :dopey: just imagine all of the
trash-talking! Just Kidding. I think this game will bring out the best in GTP and it's members.

Im with you on this one,.

Do you guys know that if you enter a truck in a car race for some reason you get a bunch of spec points. I guess the computer thinks it cant be done or something.

I haven't played the game (yet), but I think the ps2 has enough smarts to do so (give you more A-Spec points for racing a truck). It kind of reminds me of those Dale Jarrett/UPS commmercials :D "I'm not driving the truck!"

Pretty much Leon, to be kinda mean about it, hehe.

IMHO Fun > alphabets, but hey, to each their own. I'm glad that the people who compare everything they do have the system in the game to measure their e-peens with, and I'm glad there aren't annoying horsepower restrictions like GT2 so that I can go have fun kickin arse with whatever overpowered beast I want to.

Sometimes, it's nice to take a slower car, beat the CPU and GT4 rewards you with A-spec points for doing such a thing. But then sometimes you want to utterly crush the opposition driving what the hell you want. Otherwise, why have 1000bhp cars in the game?

I shall be making the most of A-spec point where I can, but if I want to drive a quick car, then who cares? Its just a number - it doesnt mean I am a better/worse driver, it just means I make different choices. So you lot can void your precious statistics, they mean little. There is one number that matters to me - 100% complete.

B-spec? Only for endurances, methinks. Where's the fun in a game, when the game does 99% of it for you? B-spec is the equivalent of watching your best mate take his Scooby round a track - nice, but doesnt compare to driving it around yourself.

Knowing how slow the AI is (in terms of driving), I think we'll have really close races with this A-Spec system, especially when our skill is at our best.

#1 Obtaining 100% complete with a high amount of A-Spec points. It seems that this is the popular vote. It shows that a player with a higher number has been a better driver throughout the game. This reasoning is good only if the amount of days passed is very low. Doing races over and over continuously add to your A-spec points. So somebody 5 years from now could have a million A-Spec points with 100% complete but it doesn't tell the whole story. Having a low amount of days is key.

Just want to point out something...

If I run a FF race in the beginners events and score 70 A-Spec points, and I go back again and win 63 A-Spec points.... Then I've only gotten 70 A-Spec points, not 133. They don't add up like that.

The days thing is ok I guess, but what about the people who use photo mode (like myself). Sometimes I screw around (going to the test track, bringing my 600+hp Cobra-R up to 200 MPH with the crappiest tires and with traction control off I pull the e-brake and cut the wheel just to see how many times I can get her to spin.) I don't want people saying "Oh your on day x, your A-spec points don't mean anything."

I think finishing 100% with high A-spec points is important, but the days don't matter because of photo mode and various other things people do outside of racing. Also they don't matter since A-Spec points don't add up like you think they do.

Sorry if this has already been brought up here, just wanted to shed some light :p

I don't really care, I use B-spec for most of the races anyway.
Are you just asking for people to flame you? Be careful with that comment. I personally don't care how you play it, it's your money and your game. Doesn't affect me at all.

lol, Sun is one lazy mofo. My AI driver is a noob, and I havent given him much track time. I''m having too much fun trying out the new tracks myself. I tried to see if the AI could win races using underclassed cars like I can, and he could never get past 6th place most of the time. Anyone here train their AI to the pt that they can do what would be high A-SPec races and win>?

Just imagine this A-Spec aspect when the online version of GT4 comes out. I'm telling you something. If you don't know how to punk somebody out, you have the best possible chance to do so if your A-Spec points is pretty high. And imagine looking online to find people to have higher A-Spec points than you. If you upset a tougher competitor, you have to feel pretty damn good to beat a great GT4 racer!

Okay, I guess I'm getting the ones who wanted online play to want online play more in GT4, so I'm out this joint. Holla back.

That happened to me last week, when my little Lupo was passed on the second to last curve due to being knocked off the racing line to end at 3rd place. Took my built M3 back to the race and had them by half a lap at the end for some sweet revenge.

I'm think more along the lines of people on this forum who talk smack. Arrage a battle between them. Lets call them driver A and Driver B. And lets say for Driver A its a 100Pt race and for driver B its a 8 pt race (or however it would be rated). If driver A wins, Driver B will change his name to "Driver A's B*tch" for a whole week. :)

Ha! I wonder what the diary would be like? For just-for-fun purposes, they might say:

Driver A
"Owned (Driver B) in a race"

and for the poor sap:

Driver B
"Just got b*tchslapped by (Driver A)"

Who said racing games can't be as fun as RPGs and MMORPGs?

I Like winning so i'm gonna say low/ 100%
There's nothing to prove if your a better driver than me. I say so what?
I play the game to have fun and drive cars that i like to drive. As long as you actually drive and don't bump off the walls, then your fine in my book no matter what car you choose to race. I like the openness of GT4 and I will utilze it. If all the races were meant to be raced by the same car, then it would be boring.

To answer some questions;
1. The points do not tangibly get you anything, ie cars, credits
2. There is no way to know how many points a particular race with a particular car is going to have until you enter it. If the points are low and you exit, down with the win ratio. No reload option included in GT4 without resetting your PS2, and who wants to do that. So I've disgarded the win ratio, I prided myself on in GT3.
3. One post suggested that the points add replayability. I agree. If you enter a race and blast the competition and get low points. Go back with a more suitable car for more of a challenge. The only problem with this is the points system is a little flawed in my experiences. I entered a race with a 200 points spread and was in the lead within the first lap until the AI spun me out in a straight. Run the race again with minimal upgrades; exhaust, flywheel, clutch, and chip; and the points were in the 150's and I dominated the race. I've also ran a couple of races where the points were under 100 and with clean good times could not catch the leader.
4. The only purpose of Aspec points is a gauge of difficulty. And as someone mentioned earlier, bragging rights.

For the most part the points system is a pretty accurate difficulty scale. It works for me in the respect that I plan to rerun races until I find a car that yields the most points.

If the game says it's a 200 A-spec pt race does that always mean it's possible to win the race with the given car? Let's say I bring a bone stock Honda Civic to one of the high HP races, do I need to cut across a couple of chicanes to get my points?

200 point races are beatable. But do you really think just because a 200 point race is beatable that a 200 point race between a Cooper Mini and a field of LeMans cars, it is doable?
