DANG

I was doing the El Capitan Endurance in my RX7 Bathurst, which is a 200 A Spec point race, and I had done 44 laps, lapping consistent 1:56s and 1:57s, and had pulled out a 1min14 lead ovr the shelby in 2nd place, which is extremely good going for me! I thought that should be enough for even B-Spec Betty to win. My RX7 was stock apart from oil change, chassis refresh (bought it used so it needed it) and all three weight reductions.

So I pit in and give it to Betty to bring the race home. I go downstairs to get a drink and come back up, and my B-Spec has done 4 laps, and the Shelby is right up his arse!!!! So I pitted him in and decided to see if i could salvage something in the last 16 laps, but ended up 33 secs behind after the pit stop, so i went for a few laps, and in my anger recorded at 1:55.590!! Anyway after a few laps it was clear i wasn't going to catch him, so i turned it off. Betty was lapping in 2:08!! :scared: :ouch: :dunce:

Has anyone else had anything like this?

I'm not sure if you can do this and still get the A-spec points anyhow - so you may have just saved yourself some frustration in the end.

I would like to hear confirmation from any others who may have tried this, but I have always assumed that to get the A-spec points you need to complete the whole race in A-spec - noh?

If you race ONLY in A-spec mode you get A-spec points.
If you race ONLY in B-spec mode you get B-spec points.
If you mix and match you get sod all.

Well, as they say, if you want something done right than do it yourself! Many times have I relied on B-Spec mode for numerous races, and many times has it let me down.

For example... In the American GT Races, I entered in a Z06 that has the best tuning I could give it and with a 575hp Supercharged and nitrous filled V8. I ran the first couple of races and won without a problem. I would say I won with complete ease.

But when I reverted to B-Spec mode to finish up the series, the Z06 wouldn't advance up the rankings. Even when I qualified for Poll Position, the Z06 would fall in the rankings under B-Spec mode.

So I've given that charade up and am now doing all of my races in A-Spec mode. The B-Spec AI should be called AU (artificial unintelligence lol - oh how lame. lmao). But yeah, I don't rely on B-Spec unless I have a 1,000hp car in a 1pt race.

Yeah I know, but at the moment i don't really care about A Spec points, what do they do anyway?

If you can get the maximum (200pt for each and every race, plus the 250 each for Mission Hall) they unlock a super-secret hidden mode where you fit flamer kits, hydraulics and 20 inch chrome spinners to your cars.

Damn this stuff is strong today.

I think they're suppose to give you some kind of comparison with B-Spec points. I've read that A-Spec modes make cars easier to drive and changes the racer's jumpsuit. What they actually really do, I have no idea. I guess they were suppose to give you some idea of how serious a race is. If you have a 200pt race on your hands, than you are in for a competition. If you have a 1pt race on your hands, than your going to trounce all over the competition.

I'd rather have more A-Spec pts than B-Spec pts to show that I'VE been playing the game, not the damn AI. I guess it also gives me an idea of how much experience I have in comparison to B-spec... who knows.

OK thanks, but im only 41% complete, and cant be bothered to max out my a spec points at the moment, ill probably just use a speed 12 wiv hard rear tyres, and my bspec should be good enough in that.

Man, you know people are going to be quoting you on this in a few weeks time ...

I think the A-Spec's are there just as a gauge to tell the difficulty of the race, and for comparison with other racers. They've made for a useful thread too. Check out the one about " Stock car comparison/challenge " - it's where you post all your high A-Spec races and boast how good you are/aren't. :)

My guess is that you had one or more of the following problems:

1) B-Spec Skill level too low
2) B-Spec course knowledge is too low
3) B-Spec speed set to either 1, 4, or 5
4) You are an incredible driver and were turning miracle laps that b-spec didn't have a chance at obtaining.

Likely it is 1, 2 or 3, but you never know.

No - complete garbage

FAOLIU05
I've read that A-Spec modes make cars easier to drive
That does not make any sense

No - the jumpsuit changes with % complete

That's obvious

Generally true, however there are exceptions. Congratulations you now seem to be on the right track

Distance, not points/skill level will do that

Sorry, wrong again

FAOLIU05
who knows.
Almost everyone - try reading a few threads - there is so much info on these topics that you almost have to try hard not to find it.

A suggestion for a good place to start: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=53246

Have fun :)

BTW: On topic - the AI is noriously crap at El Capitan, your b-spec will be no different. There are several parts of the track where they really have no idea - especially over the hill near the tunnel. 8000+ b-spec skill may help but i doubt even 10000 skill will be able to match a-spec time.

Ironically, you big senior members don't have a solid explination either. Basically, the only thread that even touches on the subject (and let me add that it barely touches the subject at hand here) is that they're talking about getting the MOST A-spec points - but what they're for is still a mystery to even the most knowledgeable GT4 fanboy. "Bragging Rights" is the best thing they came up with. So really, you're nice little butchery of my post with contents based on other theories I've heard didn't benefit anything. Sure I may be wrong on some points, but making me look clueless when you yourself is just as clueless is absolutely assinine.

A post in this thread from the number 1 most knowledgeable GT4 fanboy  (and repeated by the number 2 most knowledgeable GT4 fanboy) provides the exact answer to the question - there is no mystery. If you don't like the answer then tough. This is probably the second most discussed topic behind "what car do I use for the lightweight cup".

Whatever

BTW - the topic at hand here is poor b-spec performance in the El Capitan enduro - not "what do a-spec points do".

I can understand your frustratation at the B-Spec but Was it really wise to switch to B-spec in a 200 A-spec race when you had only a few laps to go?

My B-spec driver is pretty good--I can usually trust him to finish off what i've started, but he's never close to my lap times. He is better at saving the tires, though. So i guess the moral of the story is that the b-spec driver is just filler--like the third driver at le mans. All we really want him to do is to bring the car back in one piece.

The way my guy drives he can't even do that. If there was damage in GT4, the race would be all over for him by lap 3 I reckon... :)

I just hope that when I leave to do other things and leave B-Spec running, that the guy doesn't drive my car into a wall and gets stuck there.

why bother mentioning you lost a 200 point a spec race if the points don't matter to you?

B-Spec Betty
So you have a female co-driver too? I refer to mine as B-Spec Bella though. I've done virtually every race in both A and B Specs, so Bella is rather good ...

Ironically, you big senior members don't have a solid explination either [...] "Bragging Rights" is the best thing they came up with.

Which is, of course, the case.

I'm not convinced by the bragging rights of a-spec points when you can enter Like the Wind in a correctly geared and powerful ZZ11, or any number of road cars, go flat out and occassionally make an easy left turn for five laps, and pick up 200 points ..... hard work that.... On the other hand, there are some 10 point races where I've been left for dead. It boils down to, some races I find winnable, some races I can't win and need a faster car. A-spec points don't really

BUT, on the subject of the original post, has b-spec ever let me down in a similar manner?

Yes. Usually in a road car. On pace setting 3 he will typically be anywhere between 5 and 10 seconds slower than me, even on short circuits like Opera and Cote, and he still pits more often. He does not improve much on setting 4 or 5.
He's extremely experienced with stats of 7300 points, and skills of something around 90/80/70 or something, but he's just a crap driver and always will be, particularly at El Capitan because he crawls over the brow after the tunnel, like all the AI goons do.

That said, however, the last time we shared at the Nurb, he was 20 seconds faster than me, and it was me, not him, that lost that race. That was before I spent a frustrating Saturday trying to win Mission 34 though....

They made a mistake to put a b-spec driver in every race, they should have put the b-spec only in the endurance races.

Famine reveals the secret of A-spec points... Just nobody wants to beleive him, well almost nobody.

B-Spec Points and skill dictate your drivers ability just like experience points in RPG's. A-spec points literally do nothing as posted by DAAN and Famine.

I'm a caring, sharing type.

I had higher hopes for B-Spec, I thought it was going to be a feature I would use really often. But the more I use it the more I hate it.

Even if my car is a lot faster than the AI´s if I race it on B-Spec he will barely get 4th place. I like to race in A-Spec mode and was only using the B-Spec driver to get him experienced for the Endurance races. But from now on I think I´ll use it only in the long races, and if I have a good leading distance.
