I think that licenses and missions can teach you enough
Not really.I think that licenses and missions can teach you enough
The rewind feature in FM4, DiRT 2 and 3 as well GRID Autosport have tempted me so much, I have used it exactly 0 times. That's the thing. You'd be tempted, even if you don't want to use it. That's why we don't want it.
This 100%. Learning how to tackle a small part of a track without the challenge of having to contend with other capable drivers while being forced to utilize the most unrealistic feature in the game is useless. You can lump Mission events in there as well, like the GT500 GT-R that rides the brakes through Degner on Suzuka if you're too near its bumper. Not really.
License tests have to be done in a specific order regardless of the player's skill level and experience with previous games, and they only allow players to practice specific sections of specific tracks with specific cars and no option to turn SRF off.
Having the option to rewind in time trial would allow players to practice any section of any track with any car they want, at any time without having to follow a specific track/car order, players would have the option to turn all aids off, and laps would get invalidated if they use rewind. That's a lot more useful & practical than license tests.
There are good arguments from both school of thoughts and i already said no to this reason being PDI needs to concentrate on things that make a good GT game first - sound, AI, car selection etc, etc - but even I think this is a little too thin to be a good reason; Currently license tests are..... a little bore, and even tho' attempts have been made to make things more welcoming for newbies if I could I'd just skip the dang tests altogether...I think that licenses and missions can teach you enough
Obviously you've never played any game that has a rewind feature and have no idea how it works, so here are some explanations:If this "rewind" thing gets a nod, then how are we going to handle online? How many times can you rewind in a race? Will rewind locked in an International A race to boost its difficulty? Will rewind be in B-spec?
Sigh....that's not what I meant...Obviously you've never played any game that has a rewind feature and have no idea how it works, so here are some explanations:
-Rewind cannot be used in multiplayer races either online or offline.
-If you use rewind in offline time/drift trial or seasonal time/drift trial your lap gets invalidated and it isn't posted in the leaderboards (or in the case of Forza it gets labeled as a dirty lap and gets posted in the dirty leaderboards).
-most games have a limit on how many times you can use rewind during offline races (higher difficulty = less rewinds). FM4 has unlimited rewind in offline races but gives a 20% credit bonus for disabling rewind, which is a great incentive to turn it off along with other driving aids.
That's always fun. Look no further then the argument about "Real gamers", guaranteed laughs.Liked. Why?
- It can be optional, for those so inclined.
- It can be incentivized, like Forza's, offering higher payouts to those that don't use it.
- It in no way impacts other players' games.
- Added bonus: it pisses off the elitists.
Sigh....that's not what I meant...
What I meant was that those questions are for PDI, if they decide to implement this. These are potential questions they need to answer before this feature is executed. Remember this is PDI we're talking about. They would want to do things a little different than the rest.
Part of the challenge of gaming and racing titles in particular is completing a series of challenging tasks in succession to reach your goal. Rewind smashes that concept and turns the game into a farce, where every mistake can be 'erased' by rewinding. Remembering a series of jumps or turns and executing them perfectly through practice and skill now means nothing to those who use it.
One we're done adding rewind, making all cars available from the start, reducing license tests to glorified time trials, as well as removing any other challenge or obstacle from the game what will be left? I'll tell you what: something I have no interest in playing.
Oh wait, I dont have to use any of that. So its fine, right? In that case lets just give every game a god mode on the main menu but its allright because you dont have to use it, right?
It isn't as if there could be limitations or bonuses regarding its use or anything; or that there if you replace the word "rewind" with "restart" the paragraph has the same meaning.Part of the challenge of gaming and racing titles in particular is completing a series of challenging tasks in succession to reach your goal. About 15 years too late to whine about that.reducing license tests to glorified time trials
as well as removing any other challenge or obstacle from the game what will be left?
Correct. In that case lets just give every game a god mode on the main menu but its allright because you dont have to use it, right?
That's why I say yes to rewind. 👍Liked. Why?

real drivers have rewind? No
Single player races are not difficult enough for this function to be useful.
I'm pretty sure Schumacher had SRF in 2002, though. It's a good thing they have restart, or pause, or save during an endurance race, or SRF...
The name says it all. If you make a mistake on a race (like for example: spin out), you can rewind the race, much like the feature used in Grid games or Forza 3 and 4. *NOTE to the moderators: If this is a dupicate thread, just lock it if you can.
That's the thing. You'd be tempted, even if you don't want to use it. That's why we don't want it.
I know, this answer comes a bit late.
right?!Wrong game. Play Grid 2.
