What do we do about flagrant and agressive mirror-blockers who hold up obviously faster drivers and make a clean pass impossible? I know there are some people who, when confronted by a hopelessly slow and lousy driver trying to win by blocking everyone, would gladly use their car as a battering ram, and ram said blocker into the weeds. What do we do about people who present such a temptation and people who give in to it?

What about using various... methods to deal with the unskilled driver with a cheaty engine? The guy who kills you down the straight and holds you up in corners? Or the late-braker who'll try to outbrake any driver alive, and in the process ruin everybody's chance of catching the leaders?

The guy who kills you down the straight and holds you up in corners?

Nothing wrong with that guy, that's just racing. Pass him normally or not at all. Just because he races using a different style to you doesn't make him any slower to complete a lap.

First of all, I like fairplay.

But if you are fighting for a place, what's wrong with closing the corner?
If somebody behind you is really that good he can find a way to outbrake you or pass you otherwise.

As long you are not intentionelly crashing into somebody I don't see anything wrong with trying to keep you're position.

If someone ahead is slower, you can force him to make a mistake by driving on his six and pushing him beyond the limit, if you can't out brake him. People tend to get very nervous in such moments. If he holds the constant pressure, he's not a bad driver after all.

And then the PIT manouver becomes number 1 priority lol.

Sadly, just because you race clean doesnt mean the entire lobby will. Sometimes you gotta get the hump out and make your intentions clear. Shame there is no team mates for team mate orders lol

Havent raced online and I wont until I've seen all the tracks and took something decently fast round them.

I think the real question here is what do we do with the drivers who pass you on the main straight, in the other direction... :indiff:

We need some sort of warning system

i hope ant think that there will be the same system as in gt5p. the car who runs the wrong way will become "seethrough" and you will pass right through it..

i havent raced that much online,. still going through the gt mode..

The biggest problem I've found online is people who sit at the start/finish line and ram you as you pass :grumpy:

How much faster are we talking about? If he's still within grasp
slip stream -> take the inside with late braking technique (careful not to hit him) -> block him from the inside -> prevent him from taking an accurate racing line -> repeat if necessary
If he bumps you then its his fault because by the time you late brake, the nose of your car should be by his side mirror -- or your car should be side by side to his.

A little nudge is still legal in circuit races irl.

Yes, to be honest the most irritating behaviour that I've found in online races so far is from people faster than me but who don't even try a takeover, just ram my back :/

Does anyone know if it's possible to kick/vote someone out of a public lobby if they are for example punting everyone ?

AFAIK this is not possible yet but it needs implementing ASAP.

Anyone who is your PS3 friend can enter your My Lounge which is fine most of the time but isn't great if you've arranged an event with specific people and the room fills up with uninvited people before everyone has turned up. Obviously you can can send people a message asking them to leave but you can't kick them out yourself.

During the closed door meeting at E3 2010 Motortrend reported that the "Online Lounge can be password protected for certain friends". This also needs to be implemented soon as without it organised events are going very difficult to manage.

I do hope they implement it soon, I want to race in public lobbies as I enjoy meeting new racers. There's nothing worse than having every race ruined by some cretin that you can't get rid of which was a major problem with GT5P.

You can kick people from your online room.

On the right in the player list go to the player you wish to kick.

Press Triangle and press kick player, you can also report users but im not to sure on what this does.

hope this helps

I only block the A.I. drivers :)

First post, hi how y'all doin', etc...

I race aggressively, but wont do something that would get me or someone else killed in real life. It's a sim, so I treat it as one. There's nothing wrong with taking up the entire track in order to hold a place. There's a reason they called Dale Earnhardt the 77 foot wide Monte Carlo.

As for braking late and rammers, sounds like people are complaining because they can't beat it. I've only encountered a few people playing demolition derby, and usually if you hang back, they wipe themselves out and leave you room to get a decent distance away. Especially on the ring.

Thanks, I've not raced in a public room yet only private My Lounge rooms where you can't kick them. I guess this is because they're on your friends list but you still need a way to control who's in your My Lounge...hopefully PD are taking note :D

I hit a guy earlier and forced him off the track, purely accidental collision (not expecting him to brake) so I stopped my car, waited for him to get back on track and let him race off a few seconds in front of me, only fair thing to do. Was my first online race so wanted to play fair, had a few more races since and kept it nice & clean.

Some clarification here.

The blocker I'm talking about ramming is the hopelessly slow driver who knows he doesn't have a chance to win fairly so he flagrantly and agressively blocks obviously faster drivers to get a (cheaty) win.

The guy who kills you down the straight and hold you up in turns = probably an unskilled newbie who relies on overpowering to win. You can't catch a draft on the straight because he's too fast, and you can't pass him in the corners because he never leaves enough of an opening.

The compulsive late-braker likes to dive into openings that aren't really there, resulting in a huge loss of time when you frantically try to avoid a collision - you can be sure he won't try to avoid it, possibly because there's no room for him to do that!

There are a lot of people driving far to agressive, Almoist every online race you find people trying to hit you. Often also changeing racing line several times. I think it´s fair to change line one time like in almost every IRL championship. I finding it much more fun driving fair and clean without contact.

That´s my opinion

Single move blocking is usually allowed in most races, multiple move blocking will get you a blue flag at least, over aggressive blocking leading to collision/crash might get you a black flag. It was one of those things with the game Ferrari Challenge game that the AI made over aggressive multi move blocking, later game updates toned it down a bit. This kind of blocking in the game wasn't allowed in the under real Ferrari Challenge regulations.

Haven't played online yet, but do you have the option to enable DQs for extreme contact as there is in single player for the special events? Would be awesome to have implemented if not (perhaps with the option to change the number of infractions before DQ, etc.)

There should also be an auto-DQ for those who travel in the opposite direction on the track for more than, say, 10 seconds. Or who's average speed is less than a certain amount for about the same. ;)

I totally agree with the first paragraph. If you are obviously slower then the other cars, yeah, get the hell out of the way. You're absolutely right.

However, I'd like to point out something you're overlooking. Don't take this as me insulting your driving skills, because that is not my intent whatsoever.

Power on straights and obstruction on turns is absolutely allowed in racing. It's not easy to do either. The way to beat this involves the quote, "Rubbing is racing." Some contact is ok, a nudge is a way of saying move or i'll move you, and unless the guy wants his car buried into the wall, he'll move.

Braking late is something you have to practice, and expect. Following distances are crucial. (Remember that silly crap you learned in drivers ed?) How often do you expect to make a clean pass on a sharp turn that requires that much braking? Stay back, expect it, and use it to your advantage. Take an early apex and pass him after the turn, because he'll be taking a late one if he hasn't already crashed.

I feel your pain, and frustration, after dealing with this stuff time and time again. The only thing I could think to do is learn ways around it. I hope you benefit as much as I did. :sly:

This NASCAR leaves ALOT to be desired. If some of the wreckers were to be slower because of damage alot of this wouldn't happen. NASCAR98 had it setup online that if you raced clean you were rewarded a certain amount of points. The more points you accumulated it let you into races with drivers that shared similar point totals. Wreck somebody, lose points. Drivers could even host races with a minimum point restriction. Kept the better drivers happy and the wreckers could go do what they do with each other.

Your best chance of finding clean racers is to race the people you know in a private room.

The open lobby will ALWAYS have at least one idiot who can't race cleanly.

I'm not talking about late-braking yourself. I'm talking about dealing with the guy who, no matter how late you brake, barges up the inside with two wheels on the grass and two rubbing your door. You'll have to swerve out of the way losing lots of time if you don't want to get hit. As for methods for dealing with him, I'd say this would be a good one: when he makes his big move, delay your braking until well past any sane braking point. Then nail the brakes 100%. Mr. Late Braker will try to follow your lead (remember, he can outbrake any driver alive, up to and including the Stig himself) and will usually go off the track backwards just as you sail by him at the apex. Late braking in itself isn't wrong until it becomes obnoxious and disruptive, which it will with this guy.

I see your point, and therein I agree. Hell, if it becomes an issue, just ram his arse outta' the way and maybe he'll get the message.

There is an option to moderately or heavily handicap a player who takes shortcuts over greenzones/grass or bumps into people.

It's pretty awesome I think, but they could probably take it one further with an even more drastic penalty option.

Another issue to consider, unfortunately, is lag. Earlier today a car 2 spots ahead of me was rammed by a close follower and he spun out into me. For the rest of the race he just kept being rude to me, even though it wasn't my fault. My point is this: Stuff happens, even if you make a clean race private lobby, don't bet your temper on not getting bumped off the road.

Blocking is part of racing, if a person cannot accept this they should just run time trails.

Now I perfectly agree that blocking should be minimal for someone who is not in the lead, but whoever the lead has the right protect his position fervently. On the same token though, I don't want to hear the blocker complain when the blockee gets a nose in under him, and the blocker comes down on that nose and takes himself out. Also if a blocker gets a little too aggressive, he should be expected to be raced aggressively.

Slow drivers? or slow cars? take them under braking or take a tight line and pass them on the exit of a corner.....no real drama, multiple blocking on a straight.....wait for the corner. If it's the "lean on you in a corner" sort of racer......take the inside line, simples. The only one to watch for seriously is the kamakazi cornerer....those with arcadeitus who feel corners are not for braking but fot T-boning oponents......again tight line and vigilance in the rear view mirror.
No matter what you do you will allways exerience these things in online racing, there's not much you can do about it in public lobbys. as for blocking yourself? of course you should! I don't mean brake checking, weaving like a maniac down the straight or leaning on passing cars in a corner.....thats just poor and unfair driving. If the guy behind is faster or has a faster car then make him go the long way round corners, make him brake too late for turns, make him have a slower exit speed from a corner into a straight, simply by choseing the best line to acheive this and sticking to it.......if he's a little quicker than you he's got his work cut out and may either never get past or go of in the attempt.....if he's a lot quicker than you he'll go past easily, either way you've given him a fair but hard challenge in the race. It's racing, thats what racing is about, it's not a time trial where every lap goes unhinderd.
