I'm 52 and my only complaint was that the game shipped with 'fully adustable' transmissions that weren't. They fixed that later, so I'm ok with that.

(Is the claim that 1000 cars are available and most all of them come in the used car lot that feeds out new cars with an eyedropper a flaw? I'm not too thrilled with that part.)

I'd call the flaws a bit of a mixed bag. Some can be overlooked, and others just end up bugging you. I'm 31.

I am 34 and after 6 years of developement, no I do not accept the large amount of flaws in GT5. Especially only 20% premium cars. Just unacceptable. 👎
But there are a quite a few things about GT5 that I like, however the negative outweighs the positive by a longshot. The standard cars kill the game. Convert those standard cars to premium so we can use them in the entire game and have interior view to feel the full simulation, and it will be a massive improvement. 👍

I turn 41 in the end of July, and I "accept" GT5's flaws.

I "accept" them, if that's even the best way to describe it, because I still have loads of fun/enjoyment playing the game - as it is.
Of course there would be even more fun/enjoyment if some of the game's flaws were properly addressed, but I digress...

The thing is, I think it would be a much more interesting study to see where the GT5 player's "acceptance" level stands based on their personal history with the Gran Turismo series.
(Maybe part of the reason I can "accept" GT5 is because it's by first foray into the series. If I was a playing Gran Turismo since the very beginning, my "acceptance" factor might change - based on the comparison to the series as a whole.)

I suspect most players new to Gran Turismo would have a little easier time "accepting" GT5, while those with the series from the beginning would be a little less likely to be so "accepting". (File that under "things that make you go 'hmmm'".)

Peace...

The way I see it, PD were forced to release this earlier than they would have liked, and it shows. However, GT5 has had excellent post-launch support (unlike many, many other games I can think of) and at the end of the day, it's still the better simulator out of Forza, Grid, Shift and itself, in my opinion, the others just didn't feel as realistic to me. It's still the only game I really play now, and although it doesn't have the same longevity as GT4 did, I don't really mind. If this had been out when I still had loads of time to play games, though, my opinion may be different.

Oh yeah, I'm 24. Also the only really, truly glaring flaw in my eyes is the AI, so I rarely actually race them.

As a software developer, I'm borderline on this.

In some instances, it seems as though there were some really unclear objectives and unrealistic timelines. There seems to have been a lot of misplaced effort on seldom used and quirky features while they failed to take care of (initially and through updates) very basic problems with the user interface.

The menu system and load times are simply terrible. Having lengthy load times for starting races and preparing photo mode environments is one thing, but forcing me to back in and out of multiple (slow-loading) menus and endure the same stale animation sequences for the simplest of tasks? That's just not okay.

I'd gladly exchange the oil change and car wash sequences, the museum, the intro movie, and a dozen other things for some basic usability.

All that said, I still adore the game itself. Jump into arcade mode, grab a car and a track, and you've got something simply wonderful going on. Treat it as a typical game with a campaign to be beaten and it's quite frustrating.

That just makes it more of a shame that these simple things that continue to be overlooked can lessen the experience.

Hmm, a survey? Interesting.

I accept its flaws, anyway there's the 3 letters: Dee-Ell-Cee.

I'm 60 years old and honestly,I am more concerned about have a "regular" crap than if Gran Turismo is flawed...I still love the game.....

What he says is true. Why worry about gt5 when you could be crapping yourself.

Just play the game and you will learn to accept the shortcomings. If you still can't you better start learning java, c++, and c# because if you can't accept it you better fix it for us.

Because it's well within human ability to worry about multiple things. I do just play the game, it doesn't make some of the poor decisions that plague it any better, and I will never "just accept" them. That would be the worst I could do.

Also, it's not my job to fix anything. PD is company, they want our money. They had better listen.

For GT5, I will accept them, because that's all you can do at this time. But depending on how or if the flaws are addressed by PD, I may or may not hand over my cash for the next installment.

It may have already been said; I admit to not reading the whole thread, but I think this also depends upon what you do in the game. Obviously that would be too difficult and complex to compile into a single poll, with the numerous activities this game has.

For example, I raced for money at the beginning to acquire cars that I desired. Once I garnered a decent amount of cars, I just hotlapped them around numerous tracks. So I rarely notice the things like poor AI, (in fact I think the AI is good, not great, but definitely a step up from previous GTs), online issues, etc. The only glaring problem for me is standard cars, as I love cockpit view, which I'm ok with now.

I'm 22. I still play the game. That doesn't mean I 'accept' a substandard product. Well, I suppose technically it does. I am just not satisfied.

Exactly my sentiment, down to a t.

Too much has gone wrong for me to "accept" it (whatever you mean with accepting in this situation).

I usually play online a lot more than offline. But I can't be in rooms with more than 9 players or I'll find myself fighting the game to just join. Only game where it happens (NAT2!)
At the same time, the "career" mode and offline racing is:
1. Easy
2. Short
3. Repetitive

.. I find myself getting tired if I drive a car just to drive it, because there are no races where the car can be used. PD have succeeded with the graphics and physics, they just forgot to make the game itself...

I spend 90% of the time driving in cockpit or bumper view so don't see the dodgy shadows and smoke etc.
I enjoy the game for what it is, not what it could be.
Yes the game has flaws but what hasn't?

Woops voted in wrong one but I'm 20 and yeah this game has it's weak spots but in the end it is still ever best there is on ps3. It's a lot of fun to play and collect cars and I won't stop playing it anytime soon.

Well that is until BF3 comes out...

No, I don't accept them... In particular I can't and won't accept the lego-shadows of this game... they look pathetic... end of the story... 👎 Still praying for PD to fix them...:nervous:

21 years old :)

Thanks for all the input, really interesting replies and apart from one or two thinly veiled comments none of the usual slagging off of someone daring to post anything other than gushing praise for GT!

So far it seems to me that there is a correlation with acceptance and age, but the one surprising one is the 40+s having the HIGHEST acceptance! Reading comments tho, its clear that the over 40's feel there's more important things to worry about.

the group with the least acceptance was the 20s to 30s, but overall there's a high acceptance of GT5s flaws based on user age .

(up to this point)
under 20s - 80% acceptance
20s to 30s - 66% acceptance
30s to 40s - 69% acceptance
over 40's - 83% acceptance

I hope people don't mind but the comments have also made me think up at least two more polls for comparison:

first of these will be an investigation into the correlation between acceptance of the flaws and online/offline gaming.

2nd will be an investigation into the correlation between one format and multi format users.

I'll put my initial assumptions up as I believe that those who mainly play online will accept the games flaws more than those who don't and that those who only have PS3s and GT5 will accept it's flaws more than those who have multiple systems and racing games.

I would have thought that if you accept the faults with this game then you are still playing it, but if you don't accept the faults then you would have shelved/traded it and be playing something else?

GT5 is like any supercar, brilliant but flawed, what's worth more.

Yes the game has flaws but what hasn't?

This has been said to death now. I still don't know why. Being flawed isn't black and white. There is a difference between having long load times and having a completely worthless leveling system, for one thing.

GT5 isn't unique in having flaws, but it's fairly unique in the magnitude of confusion it can generate when you see the flaws.

It's not as simple as that, GT5 is still a good game and personally (as a major fan of the GT series since day one) I have an invested interest in the series and can't just drop the game. Also when it's good it's really good, the proper next gen tracks and the premium cars are excellent (crappy shadows notwithstanding of course ;).

It's not a black and white thing as some people think, I've grown fed up of the typical "go get a 360 and play Forza3 then" crap that get's spouted all too often. I WANT to play GT5...I WANT PD to fix (at least) the MAJOR problems with the game.

The problem is compared to the previous games PD have inexplicably removed popular/usefull elements and even with patches they have IMO made some things worse, rolling starts and the Ai for example. Before one of the patches the Ai was a great improvment (not perfect), but then after the patch (not sure which one) I noticed the ai would back off the throttle when I was close to them resulting in rear end shunts at worst and easy overtakes at best.

I'm prepared to accept a certain amount of flawage, but this game has a few too many for my liking. Doesn't stop me playing the game...

I am 28 and I don´t accept the flaws. There changed a lot in driving experience and graphics in positive.

But the flaws in game concept and gameplay are not acceptable anymore, for me. The danger, that this is my last GT (since I bought every title) is very high.

As my PS2 and GT4 melted to an unique unit, GT5 wasn´t in my Ps3 for month, now and till now, I see no reason, that this would change.

I'm 45 and play the game plenty. I wouldn't play if The Good didn't outweigh The Bad. I am surprised by some of the flaws in the game, but hey, there's a reason it's the only game I play and I am able and willing to overlook some flaws. People do gripe too much and too often about the game.

I'm 51 and have spent my time in the videogame industry. Maybe I have a bit more tolerance because of it. Stuff happens. At the end of the day, it's just a product that you have the choice to purchase or not. You've heard that it didn't turn out as well as you'd hoped? Then don't buy it. You've already bought it and don't like it? Then get rid of it. The purchase and playing of Gran Turismo 5 isn't your "duty", it isn't your job and you aren't a paid critic, so why stress about it?

So you never talk about problems you have or problems of products you´ve bought and bottle up everything?

There will never change anything for you, if you just ignore facts which are wrong ;)

If I see, there is something wrong, even if it isn´t correct for somebody else, I say what I think about it and how I would change it to a better way.

That's how it should be.

There is no such thing as perfect game.

No perfect game in the world, but you see many GOOD games.

GT5 is, to me, an appliction with lots of cars for no use, with no gameplay. I do enjoy using it sometimes though, because none of the competiting racing games has got physics that are just half as good. And I will NOT buy an Xbox purely because of something called Forza Motorsport.
