Viper Zero
I finally finished AC5. It was an awesome ride to say the least.

I only wished that the story was longer. In traditional Japanese style, the ending leaves the reader wondering.

I really liked the whole Demons of Razgriz story. It brought importance to yourself playing as Blaze and your wingmen, just like how Mobius 1 and Yellow 13 did for AC04. Also, the Cold War style battle between countries and ideology is also interesting and refreshing compared to the stale bad guy vs. good guy story. I hope Namco continues similar storylines for future Ace Combats.

AC5 is definitely one of the top games to get this year on any platform. Graphics, sound, music, story telling, gameplay, AC5 has it all. Of course, the flightstick bundle makes it even sweeter.

Yeah, I'd like to have the bundle very badly. I might put it on my Christmas list. The game is in stock at a couple of our local rental places and thought I'd give it a go, but now I can't decide. Waiting for the whole shabang is probably better.

Awesome game! I can hardly wait (:

I'm still wondering if the Saitek X45 and the AC05 joystick are truly the exact same thing. From the attached image they appear to have the same layout and button configuration with different button heads and coloring. Has anyone tried using the X45 on the PS2 successfully? Or used the AC05 joystick on a computer in a flight sim game?

Tried to buy this in GAME on Wednesday, and dicovered that it's not released in England until February. I couldn't believe this, people have already finished the game.

I'm seriously concidering that idea. Do I need any electronics knowlege? Does it come with fitting instructions?

There are diagrams to help with the installation, but don't risk frying your PS2 unless you're experienced in soldering very small points close to each other :) In other words, get a modder to do the job for you

Here's a pic of a diagram so you can see the size of the points

Yes, don´t do it on your own, get someone with experience on that.

Just wanted to bring this thread back to life and start a little discussion.

I just went out and bought this game today. 👍

It seems like it will be fun, but so far I haven't done too much. :(
Only beat two or three missions so far.
There aren't many planes availible at this point, but I am sure that will change.

In terms of game play,
Things seem to be cool.
The buttons have been changed a bit and I still haven't learned the command system, but in time that will come together for me. :trouble:

After a few days (or maybe just one) I will come back and let you all hear about my progress as well as my thoughts as a reviewer.
(even if you don't want them ;) )

Oh and just for the record...
There is some bias on my behalf...
I would give ace combat 4 a 8.5 or 9 out of 10!

Does that mean this game starts at ten and works its way up or down accordingly? :D

The more I see people discussing this game, the more I need to play it. It's out in Feb along with the forthcoming release GT 4, why must a man have these problems in his life?

First off...
Demon of Speed,
Awesome avatar!

Ok, now regarding AC5. :D

I'm still working at it, but things are going well.

I've managed to unlock a ton of stuff...
Beat the game on normal.
All "S" rankings except 1 or 2 missions I will knock out today.

Unlocked all versions of several planes but still have plenty to unlock.
Also found and bought the "falken" enemy prototype.
Ace paint jobs are being unlocked (several of them already available!)

As for some of the more in-depth elements to my exploration.
First off,
The game is more realistic than ac4... Gravity actually pulls you down when doing barrel rolls!
Gun fire sounds better and makes noise on impact with targets. 👍

Regarding the most important element of this game... The story!... There have been major improvements.
For starters, it is way better to see the cut scenes in cg (compared to ac4 and the storyboard cartoons).
But more important than the cut scenes is what they include: a great story.

In ac4 it was like a typical Japanese philosophy lesson... Contemplation on war, the enemy, the causes and reasons for life and battle  blah blah blah...

In ac5 it's all about you and your squadron. For this game you actually feel attached to the other members of your squad (unlike ac4 where you spent most of the game relating to an unknown kid and the enemy).

Also, when relating to your squad in ac5 you are treated to a much more "military experience."
It's great... You feel like you are part of the war and important to the story. This is a major change compared to ac4 where it felt like you were always on the fringe of the story.

Bottom line:
This game exceeded my already high expectations.
It is without a doubt the best flight combat game I have ever played (I can't imagine how awesome it would be to have the 120$ version with the dual joystick  ).

As mentioned before, if this game starts with an 8.5 out of 10, or even a 9 out of 10 and works it's way up or down...

This game is a 9.5 out of 10. 👍
(if not 10)

To namco...

AAAaaannnnnnddd "What, if any, multiplayer is there available in 05?"

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

My lady and I picked up a copy last night but I don't get to open it until Christmas *GRAAAGRGRGGGaaaaaa ...* But she did get me the flight stick version, so that's pretty freaking cool. And my room mate went through a phase where he bought **** loads of flying games, so I'll just borrow all those and have some real fun. Especially since I have a three monitor setup right now and MS Flight Sim uses that. Woohaa!

theres a redundant 2 player split screen mode. Nothing exciting. The campaign is where it's at. The story with the demons of Razgriz and such is surprisingly one of my favourite storylines in a video game.

👍

For sure, I second that big time.

I'm loving the game and basically, right now I don't want to elaborate...

However, I do plan on coming back after I make a little more progress.

But I will be back soon. :D
Oh and btw, I bought the falken. ;)

The game is so easy when playing with the Falken. The laser destroys everything in seconds.
I finished the game completely and now i'm trying to earn enough money to buy Falkens for my entire squad. We will be owning the place.

Just wanted to come back and give a little update. :D

I've managed to make some real progress since the last time I was in here.

First off,
All "S" rank on normal.
(with a few "S" ranks on the Ace difficulty) :sly:

I've also managed to unlock a bunch of planes... In fact, at this point I have only a few left to unlock.
Specifically, I need to unlock the second level of the RM-01 (rafale M or something... a multi role delta wing design).
I also need to unlock all levels of the Su-27.

But other than those 2 plane types I have unlocked everything (except the X-02 which will come after I unlock the above mentioned planes).

Now, regarding my impression of the game and how it has changed as I get more and more game time in...

The game is awesome. 👍

I can't really see any problems with it.
Everything seems to be top notch and frankly, if there is a better flight combat game in out there I would like someone to tell me about it (and on that note, I am almost 100% there is nothing for the ps2 that can compare).

All in all I am going to say that this game is the best flying game I have ever played.

There´s a good one on the Xbox, I think the name is "Crimson Skyes". I never played it, but I saw my friend playing it the career mode a little bit, and some Xlink multiplayer also. It´s a beautiful game, and it seems to be very entertaining.

Crimson Skies is good, but I wouldn't say it's great.

Kent: Do you have the Saitek flight sticks or are you using the DS2?

:(

DS2. lol.

I didn't even know about the joystick version of this game until after I bought it. :irked:

Had I known about it I would have surely bought the joystick version. 👍

I doubt I will go out and buy a joystick to play the game (I still drive in gt3 with a ds2 lol).

Btw,
Since I'm here I might as well inform everyone of my progress. lol.

First off, I've been playing more of the ace level missions, but haven't made too much progress there.

Also, I've unlocked every plane in the game except for the various levels of the Su-27.
ATM I can't see it being too long before I have the X-02, but who knows lol.

I've also managed to find a great mission to exploit for the purposes of unlocking new planes...

The "Seas of Chaos" mission is perfect for unlocking new planes. 👍
Lots of targets, most of them are ground based and easy to take out.
Total points for the mission should be around 30,000.

Also, using that mission as my base for unlocking planes in a hurry...
I managed to unlock the second level of the RM-01 with only 2 attempts at the mission. 👍

Sure it's cheap and sorta cheating, but I don't care about that for now.
For now I just want to unlock the X-02, then it's off to my various planes to see just how much replay value I can find in the game. :D

Back in another day or so, but till then,
Later. :D

Do you guys think a PC joystick would work with AC5? My friend has one, I could have tryed to play with it, but I was too lazy at the time. :p

As usual it looks like us Aussies get everything last, I wont be getting my copy untill late Feb at the earliest, stinkin bastards
