Adrian Newey has been confirmed at Red Bull from Feb 06!!

Wander what Ron Dennis must think of this... Could this make Kimi's rumoured exit to Ferrari less of a Rumour?!

Wow that is incredibly great news for Red Bull, maybe he fell out with Ron Denis.

Well McMerc are a bit screwed right now.

Newey has been wanting to leave McLaren for years. In 2002 he almost joined Jaguar, and this year he was going to retire.

Really good news for Red Bull though…

Adrian Newey is an extremely well-respected car designer. He was responsible for a number of the championship-winning Williams cars in the 90s before leaving to join McLaren. He designed the McLarens that took Mika Hakkinen to the 98 and 99 World Championships.

It's been rumoured that for a few years now he's been looking for a change (either to change team or leave F1 altogether). Bobby Rahal nearly pinched him from McLaren to join Jag Racing a few years ago, but Ron Dennis was able to "convince" him to stay *cha ching*.

how can you say that? its normal to want change in life. its not much fun if you keep winning with great teams. he probably is looking forward to bringing red bull up in the ranks. i'm happy about this.

When I found Newey adores GT40s I lost some respect for him. Still, great move on Red Bull's part, though I don't think he'll have much of an inpact for 06. )7 and beyond though. Same with Gascoyne when he went to Toyota.

What i would like to know is who will replace him at McLaren. I mean Adrian made this years McLaren and it was the quickest car ever made. Who can top that?

I think Adrian Newey is wanting to get away from the corporate way McLaren operates. McLaren (and most F1 teams, for that matter) are heavily sponsored. Those sponsorships come at a certain cost of freedom in how their employees act.
In contrast to McLaren, Red Bull probably has a 'mom and pops' atmosphere to their team. And I'm sure Adrian would like to experience working in a much more relaxed atmosphere. Look at Coulthard... he's been known to really enjoy his stay at Red Bull because of how they operate.

It'll be interesting to see who McLaren will get to replace Newey. There isn't much the dirver/engine can do if the car suffers from excess amounts of drag.

Did you guys NOT think it was only a matter of time before the Red Bulls got their horns?

and a nasty taste i hear. who made it legal for those guys to print their own money? everywhere i turn i see redbull somewhere.

oh yeah. Well, they might repaint them so that the horns are actually the bull's horns or they might be little wingy things.

I hope mclaren gets some young gun who will show a oldie hows its done 21st century stylee!

You clearly have no idea about F1.

For the past 11 years two people have won the F1 world championship:

Shumi and Newey.

Mclaren have something called a structure where stuff like this is acconted for.

Ron Dennis is not an idiot, Adrian didn't design every millimeter of the car. There are people under him who are quite capable (maybe not as brilliant) to take over the role. Ronny boy wouldn't let an entire team of 500 ppl (just on F1) rely on one person, and he sure wouldn't hire some 'young gun' to design his car (Sam Michael ring a bell?).

He's basically said that Newey is a damn good aerodynamicist, which he is. Which is obvious. He's designed 7 world championship winning cars in F1 since he started in the series in 1989, and when you coinsider that Ferrari have been dominating since 2000 (except this year), you realise just how good a job he's done. That's 7 championships in 11 years. Oh, and disloyal? In the 17 years he's been in F1, he's worked for just 3 teams: March, who fired him after a year; Williams, from 1990 until 1997, and Mclaren, from 1998 until 2006. That's 8 seasons with each of the 2 teams. Now he's joining his 4th team in his 18th year. He's definately not disloyal.
