Whuch is better?

1. USB modem

2. Network type. I don't have a network card so I have to get 1 and plug it in.

Performance wise, is there any difference? If there isn't I'll go for the USB version.

Get a netcard instead of the USB adapter.. USB ports tend to clutter up after a while, and a dedicated netcard (with on board processor) has far less impact on overall performance of your PC....

It depends on what you want, I mean you could get a fairly decent one with built in router/firewall/wireless. But if your only connecting one pc, you might as well go for just a cheap one. And yes Fleb (Pleb?) is right about the impact in performance.

You should get a network type. If you get the combined modem/router/switch/wireless point, then everything is in the one box and you have a home network ready to run. Also, the advantage to this is that the router keeps the connection alive, so your PC is online all the time - you never have to connect to the DSL service.

What Flerbizky and Race Idiot are trying to say is that if you buy a USB modem, you have to install a driver that cons the PC into thinking that the USB port is actually a network card, which it is not. If you buy a network card, then this is a network card, and there is no conning required. The card handles all the comms using an on-board processor, and there are no drivers taking up interrupts trying to force a piece of hardware to be something it isn't.

This is the more expensive solution, but it will be faster, more reliable, and more logical to troubleshoot.
