This is getting really bad at level 19 and foreseeing it only getting worse as I progress...

It's not like a tap and you spin, they will line up on your rear quarter and just push until they are on the line they want... this isn't aggressive, it's just very bad form... I've had it drag me down to a near complete stop before when fighting to not spin...

To see this very easily just do the Top Gear event with the Lotus's.

I was excusing this thinking that it was a form of retaliation as its easy to hit/get hit, because AI has no awareness of you but its gone too far.

This is SO illegal in real racing its nearly ridiculous...

have you tried doing the one lap battles for the licenses? Do those and then you'll see how bad the AI is

LMAO, i should upload my nascar advanced daytona replay. Passed everyone in 1 lap clean then got slammed hard by everyone and their mothers for the other lap. Blocking 3 lanes is fun :D

Ya, it also sucks when you buy a very expensive car and try to be cautious when driving, only to have the AI smash into you when your braking for the corner. After one race your body rigitity costs like 500,000 to fix:crazy:

I'm pretty sure its been proven that damage taken in races has nothing to do with getting your chasis worked on. If you buy a brand new premium car, with 0 miles on it, but go to GT auto, it still shows it as needing chasis work.

I've given up on getting a gold in that event. I just can't last 10 laps without being punted because I can't gap them without anyone to draft on. :grumpy:

The AI really doesnt care about you. It kind of takes the immersion away alittle as you aren't thinking like a racing driver as you have to avoid the opponents at all costs where as in RL you can steal the racing line and the opponent would back off, not run you off the road for a totally legal move

He is talking about after a race where the a.i has damged his car not before you..........
What are you saying any way?? Premium cars are invincible that you can go total your premium car finish the race and go to GT Auto and it will say "no Chassis maintenance is needed it still in good shape"

The top gear camper waggon race is another example.

I call it the bulldozer effect, and it is really horrible, i think it also ties in with the weird effect of sticking to AI cars as it we are all made out of velcro

the sticking and slowing is probably my biggest dislike, closely followed by "AI is in a faster accelerating car and punts you one in the arse off the start"

Nascar series, race 5 at daytona, 10 laps.... I have won but MY GOD it is unfuriating! You do it once and get spun on the drivers side. You restart and make sure that they have enough room on that side, so they tap you on the other side instead! The best you can hope for is that 2 try to spin you at once....

It took me only two attempts to beat this race. You just have to be very aware of where cars are around you at all times. I spent more time looking in my mirrors than out of the windscreen.

There's more than 1 thing that needs fixing with the AI...

This video disturbs me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox70Ho9_jX4&feature=player_embedded

I saw this on kotaku just now and was going to post it(hadnt seen your's as I was at work). It just goes to show how determined the AI is to stay on the line, they are completely oblivious to other drivers, including AI drivers I've noticed just today.

I'm not trying to troll, plenty of games manage AI that will at least avoid a stationary car, this one is just a good example.

It makes me wonder how much stuff was sacrificed in order to get to 1080p.

Embedded just for ease of watching

That car got hit 10 times!? And the AI bumped into each other.

Yea park 1 car in a track 1.5 lanes wide in the turn in point and the other on a 3 lane wide track off the edge of the track. I vote troll.

You're right that vid isnt subjective at all, in the forza side the cars would probably not have gone out that far. The AI will try a little to avoid you.

Just had a test on the TG test track, if you are on the racing line in a corner they're going to hit you most likely (which I guess is fair enough) but on the straights they'll try to avoid you. They are still fairly dim, they drop down to about 20mph if you're on the racing line on the straights sometimes.

There is however plenty of room for improvement.

AI fixes

- Stop pit on corner exits
- Make them spinnable from contact
- Make them brake later/better
- They cool down too fast

The AI is fine, you need to learn to be smoother with your driving. I have been playing GT5 since it dropped and at first I was thinking the AI was a bunch of jerks. Scripted events such as the Special Event sections are a different story, they are done that way just to see if you can figure a way how to beat it. But the normal races, the only issue the AI has is your car becomes non existent when you spin out, it's like you aren't there. But for everything else, it's pretty much dependent on your driving skill. I handily out battle the AI for positions on corners often, they don't ram me, in fact they do their best routine as a human player trying to fight without contact. Some people try to bully their way around the course and catch the AI at odd times more often than not where the AI will not for anything change their routine because you decided to drive across their line at a place on the track where it's just stupid to try to change what they already committed to. I'm banking that the OP got spun out because he was passing the AI and couldn't hold his line or just made a bad move to begin with. I for one had incursions with the AI recently and they were definitely my fault, none resulted in being pitted though. But for the most part the AI tries it's hardest to avoid contact, they even adjust their line to suit, there are just times when bad drivers make bone headed movements that the AI just can't react to. Funny how it's the NASCAR series that you are having problems with, all cars have the same output so you can't out run them, lol. NASCAR is pack racing buddy, the Jeff Gordon events told you that you need to manage your inputs, driving side by side at 190+ isn't an easy feat. As I said be smooth with how you drive, braking and overtaking especially.

I agree that the AI needs to back off the throttle when ever they hit you like that instead of bulldozing your behind around the oval(simple routine to react to where the AI hit you so that they slow down and go around you). This should be brought to PD's attention as soon as possible, I personally would like it if the AI would drive all the cars hard like I do. There is usually only one car driving hard and battling me out front, I want to see the others pushing and vying for the lead. One race I had the AI behind me chasing me as hard as he could get his RX7 to do, each lap I would see his tire marks from the skid he picked up coming around the corner, lol. Epic! I want all of them to push their cars to the limit and not foolishly like a human though.

I'm going to play some more and try to pick up on how the AI reacts alittle more.

There is no way PD can program an AI to avoid all those gamers like those found racing online unless they were Knight Riders use turbo boost to jump over the player's car. I'm sure it would be very tough to program AI to drive 11 cars on the track and expect all the possible moves a human player could make and avoid smashing into them.

Cut the elastic bands please.
Oh and stop brake checking me round corners.

I'm one of the people wanting a damage system implemented. I can see that being the tin hat on this game though.

I've actually witnessed that brake checking, but I usually set up myself to go around the AI, it's only hard to avoid when weren't set up for the corner. The AI is using brake check tactic, but it's never in a place where it can be dangerous, usually on low-mid speed corners and they are usually half a car length ahead of you because you have enough time to brake and not hit them. Smart Ai, not too smart, but smart enough to force you to lose some momentum that way you can't out run them out of the corner. Not many humans attempt this in the game, and when they do, it's on a high speed area.

I haven't noticed rubber banding though, I get ahead and the AI car behind me starts to drive pretty hard in the closing laps, but only as hard as his car can hold up.

Half a car length is enough to brake? Do you drive in real life?

Oh and there magnetised too.

Maybe a car length is better, but I noticed in the game I drive pretty close to the AI in corners

Why yes I do, but I never had to take corners at speed since in the city corners are 90 degrees, but racing you should know that going around a corner you would be closer to the car ahead of you because most corners are med speed corners. Driving in real life doesn't actually equate to racing, since in racing, you have a clearer idea where the guy ahead of you is actually going. So being half a car length behind him should be much issue with working brake lights. Unless your car has incredible grip you can only be going so much faster than the guy ahead of you in a corner anyway. If you followed his line into the corner you'd be matching his speed anyway, thereby you'd be going same or just below his speed, in order to formulate an attack for the exit, you'd be going slower to match him, then change your line and attack just beyond the apex. It's how I drive in the game, real life driving requires more defensive driving than anything else, people are too carefree on the road and inattentive to others.

What do you mean magnetized? you mean when they stick to you should they come into contact on turn in? Or that you can't seem to shake them no matter how fast and clean you drive around a course?

I think F1 2010 is the leading example of "good" racer AI... (now that it's patched)... they basically follow real racing rules... your front end is up to the middle of the car, they yield, you have the advantage... if not and only wheel to wheel they will close the door on you forcing you to yield...

It can be quite convincing more times than not...

This is just blatantly wrong. The AI is aware of every car on track and acts accordingly.
