Wow, does anybody use ABS 0? Should make a poll...

Everything off!

Depends on the car and mood, though usually no. It would be interesting if ABS wasn't an aid but a car feature (needs to be capable of being disabled though).

The racing line feature is such a destructive "aid", it teaches you nothing but train you to drive with "low eye" and teaches you how to totally disregard the essential skills of identifying reference ponits for track driving and racing.......

I can't agree more. That's exactly what I found myself doing, and then remembered why I turned it off in GT1 and GT2. I will give that it can help new players, but it becomes a hamper before long.

I must admit that I do keep on ABS 1 and TCS 1 for high power cars more then I probally should. I am spinning the tires at the begining of races otherwise and will lock up the tires too easily. Feathering the little analog stick can be wacky.

Don't be fooled by the purists. Personally, I wouldn't play without aids on a controller, anyway. Even then, some cars don't even offer the option to turn off certain aids.

I'll often switch between ABS 1 or off, or TCS on or off. The rest, I don't use.

mainly everything off. but sometimes I need +1 abs, some of them beasts are wild!

You really have to turn abs off to complete some licences to gold.

If I cant do something I will play around just a little and see if it gives better results.

I`ve never used the Driving Line, NEVER!, what I always do even in previous GT`s, when I start the game for the first time I go to arcade mode and drive on the new tracks and get used to them lol. for driving aids, i didnt use the driving aids in GT4 but in GT5 driving without ABS is a really challenge, especially on the GreenHill/Nurburgring. But lately I took it off and I`m kinda getting used to it now. I play with the GT Force Wheel. wish I had the G25/G27 though

everything off except ABS to 1(if modern car) or off(if vintage).

and ah... I say no to aids. er... I say no to driving AIDES too, usually. ;)

I drive with ABS 1
TCS 0-3 depending on the cars, some cars I just cannot handle (the yellowbird comes to mind).
Driving line on untill I get a good feel for a track.

This.👍

I tend to leave the TCS on 1-2 for high powered rear-wheel drive cars.

All assist off. This give's you more control and faster times, I turn on the line only to learn the fantasy tracks. ABS off requires a lot more concentration on braking zone and braking in a more controlled way, but you will enter the corner at a better apex and faster exit. But for the modern cornering technique of late braking deep into the corner for a faster next corner speed (better for more high powered cars) this becomes even more difficuilt to master but the rewards are worth it. recommend Heeltoe technique when using abs off.

I only ever use ABS 1 and I only use it some of the time. GT5 seems to do ABS differently to the previous games. With it on the brake balance adjustments seem to have much less effect than they used to. I always used to have ABS 1 on because it's so much harder to threshold brake in a game than in real life, but in GT5 you just can't get the same rotation from trail braking as you used to be able to, so I turn off the ABS for cars where I want that extra help on turn-in.

I think for some cars ABS 1 is faster than no ABS. You get very little steering and some tyre squeal, which shows you that the ABS is getting you pretty close to the limit of adhesion. With no ABS you can only brake hard enough to put one wheel (usually the inside front) at the limit. With ABS you can brake a bit harder and let the ABS deal with that wheel. With some cars what you lose by not being on the limit braking in a straight line you gain by being able to brake deeper. With MR cars ABS lets you use more rear bias to maximise braking from all four corners in a straight line without it being too wild when trail braking.

Plus of course with ABS it's easier to be consistent and it's easier on your tyres.

I find ABS on and off to be totally different.

With ABS off, you get more weight transfer effects, so the rear end will move around quite a bit, even if the rears don't lock.

With ABS on, you can slam on the brakes most of time and not feel a thing. Seems like some stability management is active with ABS on
Although you will lose it occasionally

I don't use any aids if I can help it. I sometimes forget and then get frustrated that TCS is sapping my exit speed, but the ABS in GT5 is a great improvement over GT5:P and GT4.

For some licence tests and special events, I keep ABS on, especially if I can't adjust the bias in time via the in-race menu. Not sure if it's an advantage or not.

I think people should do as they want with their game, but the point made earlier about the racing line is valid. Learn to read the circuit and memorise it; eyes up, spying where you want to be next (this works with so many other sports, too.) That's the key to improving in general, because you're automatically more aware of where you are and what you're doing with the car.

I like the feel of the cars with ABS off, so I drive with it off whenever possible, irrespective of whether the car has it or not, and adjust the (frustrating default) bias to suit. 👍
If I switch to the pad for grinding, it can catch me out, but I usually can't be bothered to change the settings on my work horses, so I just drive a bit slower :p

I turn all the driving aids off, except I'll usually leave ABS at 1. On the Nascar cars I'll put it at 4 because they spin even while braking straight ahead, but all the rest it's 1.

I detest traction control. When I got GT5 Prologue I spent a couple days thinking they'd horribly screwed up the physics, but then I noticed that damned thing was on and as soon as I turned it off, Eureka! Awesome physics!

I've never used the driving line in any game LOL. Not even on my first day with my first racing game.

One other thing that totally sucks about the driving line is that it isn't. It isn't the driving line. It's a driving line and usually a ridiculously slow one at that. Just like skinning cats there is more than one way to approach most corners, especially if there's an opponent on the track.

That dotted blue line tells you none of this - it's just how your granny would drive in an ideal world where suzuka was simply the road to tescos for a tin of catfood. Try running deep on a hairpin, slow in-fast out, instead of following that ridiculously slow defensive line that they tell you to and you'll see what I'm talking about pretty quickly.

I had to turn on some aids on certain cars. But if you leave the aids on, the game isn't nearly as fun. It's very rewarding to countersteer out of a skid.

If you run with AIDs on, at least turn off skid recovery force. It is a totally unreal game only option that adds extra grip when you start to slide. This is impossible in real life for obvious reasons. All the other aids, while crutches that will make you slower if you rely on them, at least exist in the real world. I run with all aids off except for ABS set at 1. Hopefully when my fanatec wheel arrives next week (yeaaaaaah!) i can turn it off as well.

I wonder if real race car drivers would thump their chests and wave their e-penis with such enthusiasm if they were capable of even making one lap around a track in their real life F1 and Supercars with such live saving aids as TCM and ABS?

There is nothing run with running some ABS, I usually just use 1 or TCM, I usually use 2 or 3.

Especially on the Supercars and Race Cars. Stock Street cars not so much...

ABS 1 (0 in rare occasions)
rest off.

I find the response of cars to be... strange... when driving with TCS.

i turn them way down, but not all the way off. I'm working on managing the throttle with 0 traction control and no antiskid but its hard with the controller. I have no doubt that once i get a wheel i'll have them all off but the DS3 is not good at giving good feel for partial throttle inputs. I've actually noticed this on a lot of PS3 games and am wondering its something about the controller. It was easier to manipulate the throttle with the x button in GT3 and GT4 i seam to remember.

I thought the same thing when I finally use ABS a few time in seasonal events. With ABS off I have to do most of my braking down the straight and less entering the corner than when ABS 1.
I don't know if I'm faster with ABS off since I feel I get by braking hard into the corner more when it's set to 1.
Still I can understand those using a controller using some aids especially ABS 1. I wouldn't want to use a controller with all aids off.

I turned off the driving line a while back when I realized I was no longer driving but playing a game where you make red lines disappear at the right time. It certainly makes new tracks very difficult but it is more fun learning them.

As for the other settings, I am a real newbie to GT, so playing without aids is hard. I try to minimize their use but at some point I get tired and frustrated but would like to keep playing. So I'll pick an overpowered car for the event and turn the aids on for a nice arcade feel.

ABS is always 1, TC is 0-5 and sometimes I use skid recovery.

Practice. After years of playing Xbox, 360, and Dreamcast, all with analog triggers, you get used to it. Games like PGR, FM, Race Pro, etc all get those feathering skills in shape. In fact, very early when I got GT5 I looked for those options to start turning things off.

I'm trying to learn ABS off.
It's a completely different driving experience, as the ABS implementation in GT acts like some sort of stability control promoting understeear while braking.
The Ford Focus ST of the last online bonus races, with the ABS is an understeering beast.
With ABS off it seems to handle like it should.
