I usually have everything off except 1 ABS. Although for some cars I do have to knock up the traction control slightly. I hate doing so, as it feels like cheating, but I can't be very precise with my throttle input because I only have a Dualshock 3 controller and no racing wheel :(

Never used the racing line, except on the Lambo Grand Tour event where it was the only way to see where you were going

I used nothing for the first many hours I played the game, but eventually got royally fed up with the ridiculous sensitivity of the G25 brake pedal (I really hope this is going to be fixed in a future patch), so I've now caved in and use ABS 1 in many cars.
Which of course makes it all but impossible to lock up the brakes, so now I feel like I'm cheating.

Did you know that you have to press first your brake pedal all the way down a few times to enable its full range, and to set the brake balance to something more meaningful for a road car without ABS (4/1 would be a good starting point, other cars might require different settings, but the norm would still be making having front brake balance mainly on the front axle) ?

I'm using only ABS at 1, and the driving line is full of laughs--seriously, it doesn't even serve justice as a reference! My main issue right now is in getting just the right precision in throttle modulation for my cars to not spin out. Top Gear Intermediate has been an issue for me, as a result.

I've tried lowering the brake balance numbers - they actually seem to be more like brake force numbers, don't they? Not the usual percentage balance - in several cars (and though I didn't know it happened on the PS3 as well, I'm familiar with the issue of the pedals not always being properly calibrated at the start - that happens in PC racing games if I've had the wheel disconnected), but 90-100% brake pressure still happens far sooner than at full brake pedal travel.

Yes, they are brake force numbers. The balance between front and rear brake force determines the brake balance. For example a balance of 5/3 means that the total braking force is 8, balance is front: 100/8*5=62.5%, back: 100/8*3=37.5% .
It's a confusing system, because it's hard to tell quickly how balanced is the braking force. Also it loses precision with low numbers. At the very least it should have had a range of values of 1-100, not 1-10.

Come discuss brake implementaion in GT5 in this thread! :)

With ABS off you can, in most cars, brake very hard (after adjusting the brake bias) down the straight. When you start to turn toward the corner (weight begins to shift) you have to let off the brake almost totally: feather the brakes.
If you learn how the feather the brakes in the corners you can, in some cars like MR, use it to your advantage as it cause slight over-steering to help turn the corner.

I prefer to drive with everything off, this requires setting the brake bias for balanced braking each time I change a car or modify it, I can't tell you how many times I have jumped into a new car and during the countdown my kids have yelled out "Dad adjust the brakes" because I forgot

I don't care if I can get better times with aids on, I enjoy driving with the aids off more.

I've tried playing around with the brake balance in some additional cars tonight (haven't played the game since before Christmas as I haven't been home, so my memory on how many I tried back then might be a little sketchy), and with ABS off and brake balance at 2/1 (the default seems to be 5/5 in all cars, and a 50/50 brake balance is a bit odd for most cars anyway, isn't it?) the brake pedal travel seemed to match the in-game brake pressure much better than I remember from before.

Was this problem with the G25/27 brake pedal sensitivity improved with the latest patch, or did I just not previously experiment enough with the brake balance setting for the individual cars?
As mentioned I actually played with ABS off for the first many hours in the game, but eventually it was driving me nuts to have to be so unrealistically gentle on the brake.

Everything off except ABS (set on low anyways). It takes the fun out of things to tell a computer what to tell the car to do. It is much closer to real driving, and may give you some skill (or at least give yourself a false appreciation of the skills that you think exist ;)) You have to use your own judgement on how much throttle to feed on when exiting a turn without a computer doing it for you.

ABS = 1 (with 0, all FR, MR cars will spin out every time you brake.

TCS 0 (maybe 1 or 2 on some very very power MR, RR and FR cars.)

Everything else I set to 0 or off.

Only a few cars I drive with them on just to experience what the car in real life feels. Nissan GT-R, BMW M3, Mitsubishi EVO X, Subaru WRX STI. By default, these car came with driving assist in real life.

That's odd, I race with ABS on 0 all the time and I don't spin out when I brake, perhaps you have not adjusted the bias and press the brake too hard 💡
