Hey guys my dads birthday is coming up and I'm going to get him a ps3 game. He's a big fan of aircraft games like ace combat but I'm not into them as much as him, so I don't know much. What do you guys think is the best aircraft game?

Can your PC run Flight Simulator X or X-Plane?

I'm not a big fan of the newest AoC, it was somewhat disappointing. Then again, I only tried the demo.
But the planes took absolutely no skill to fly. I don't even think you could go upside down.

Il-2 Sturmovik is your weapon mate. WWII sim. Very good for a console.
Grab a flightstick too.

That's the one I have Parker. Works very well too.
The base can be split. Ie. seperate the throttle and stick.

Do you know Studmovik is getting a sequel in March I think. Birds of steel.
Around 100 different planes.

The Ace Combat series is the best for consoles. I've played all the other ones and in my opinion they're all bunk. I'm actually surprised about the IL-2 recommendations...that really is one of the worst handling flight games out. Not to mention the graphics are meh...and HAWX was just plain bad.
Just my opinions...take em or leave em.

I have HAWX 2. It looks like a good game, but unlike the Ace Combat games its perspectives make me a little seasick, and the control interface is backwards from AC, and when you change it, it screws ERRYTHING up!

Hmm When the latest Ace combats demo put so many people off for easy controls you say this. And there is 1 of 3 reasons you dont like IL-2.
You like arcade games.
You expected the pc full sim package ie fuel mix etx. which I can understand but I still like IL2.
You want modern aircraft.
If its not one of those 3 im stumped.

Ok, fair enough. To address your points....I never understood why people said the controls were easy. I mean, yeah, they aren't difficult but, the controls haven't changed between games, except when AC5 came out, Namco released that flight stick and throttle peripheral and I picked that up, which was pretty slick.
And to address those 3 reasons you listed about not liking IL-2...
I can take or leave arcade games. Some I like, some I don't. I'm not biased about arcade/non-arcade style games.
No, I wasn't expecting the full pc package.
Yes, I do like modern aircraft, but my heart lies with WWII era aircraft. That was what real flying was all about. The controls and response to input just didn't feel quite right in IL-2. Of course, I'm somewhat basing my opinion on the fact that I have actually flown aircraft in my life. Granted, personal aircraft aren't quite the same as WWII a/c, but still...the game just didn't feel right to me.
It's all good...to each his own.
