I was recently sent this picture from a friend at University. I have a very, very basic knowledge of aircraft and can't find anything similar to this. Anyone know what the circled object is?
It looks like an anti-turbulence vane along the bottom of the wing. Similar to those little vanes that are along the trailing edge of the wing.
Either that, or the light is reflecting oddly off of the fillet between the wing root and the fuselage. The photo is quite grainy so it's hard to tell:
Let me guess: it's from a website claiming that the World Trade Center towers were destroyed by missiles rather than aircraft impacts?

Didn't you know? The Pentagon was struck by a missile fired from a 757, which then "banked up sharply and disappeared". Bugger me if Stealth technology isn't getting better by the day.
It's a photo taken on 9/11 of one of the planes that hit the World Trade Centre. Some people claim it's a "missile pod". But it isn't. Look at the following photo of a 767:
You can a similar shape on the underneath of planes in both pictures. It's just an artefact of the light and the direction the photo was taken from that it looks like something suspicous.
You all know, don't you, that it wasn't even a 767 that hit the WTC that day? It was a custom made military drone rigged to looked like a passenger jet and equipped with missile pods that launched just before impact....
