Honestly, awesome. Haven't raced this much since I first got the game, and the competition is great. I won't be donning a racing suit anytime soon, but just trying to beat the people on my friend's list is cool enough for me. Found out that Duck has other talent's besides paint OCD. He's fast. Hard for me to keep up with him. He's pretty much my target now, although gazelle68 is no slouch either. Ch1p on the other, needs some work. :)
 
As would I hence why I haven't got behind the wheel yet,and plus I assume most people have DFGT's and the like which gives us DS3'ers no chance am I right? also what do you win?

Getting gold in an entire section entitles you to the car used for that section free (Leaf, Silvia, 370Z, GT-R V-Spec II Nur '02 to name a few) As for wheel users having an edge, I would say that the top stick users will always be at a certain disadvantage. However, there are some stick users in the top 100 or so for the whole thing. Won't amount to a hill of beans for them if they are invited to compete this year as they will have to adapt to a wheel pretty darned quick, but it isn't so much of a handicap as people think. Duck is the fastest of my friend's list right now. He uses a 900 degree wheel and shifter. I can stay within a .1-.3 seconds of him on just about everything, and on some beat him using the DS3.
 
Meh,Still puts me off though..and the prizes are cars we already have so...I think I'll leave it.

Yeah, if you don't like the competition, there isn't much there. The cars are GT Academy versions, so they will be collectible to a certain degree because they are GT Academy badged. Other than that it is just two guys in the bathroom measuring. :)

Never going to be. The DS3 just isn't designed to be used the way we are using it. I've heard that mastering right stick acceleration and braking can make you faster. I've tried it, but I just can't get my brain to accept it. Hard enough that I am pushing an accelerator and a brake with my finger instead of my foot, trying to master moving a stick forward and back for velocity just doesn't compute for me. However, in playing with it, I can definitely see the benefits. The most important of which is throttle control. No doubt that throttle control is one of the major factors in getting lap times down. Moving the stick forward in varying degrees is much more like pressing down on an accelerator. Same for pulling back to brake. While the buttons do sense pressure, there is much less range in the buttons versus the stick. If you can get used to it, the #1 reason that the wheel/pedals have an advantage is reduced.

Then there is the mastery of MT. Anyone that uses MT is going to have an advantage as well since you can more precisely control your revs in relation to the course. AT will only shift on its shift points. When you're racing, that isn't as big of a deal as you can modify your gear ratios for a track. But when you have a TT like GT Academy, you're not allowed any modifications. Sometimes the stock ratios just put you in a crappy shifting position for the course you are driving or your style of navigating a corner. This is especially noticeable on corner exit. If you brake to hard or lightly going in, course correction is just one problem to deal with. Getting optimal acceleration out of the turn is the other. With MT, you can down or upshift to compensate for a missed braking point. AT, you're stuck with being perfect in and perfect out.
 
Something else to think about...so if i was to attempt it...how far would I have to get to win the new set of GT Academy cars?

And so far gold hasnt been too difficult to obtain

Ch1p does need some work :dunce: I'd love to act all smug and verify what gazelle said but the truth is I'm only after the prize cars. Their racing suit would most likely not fit me anyway :lol: My expertise was always with arcade games. I played Battlezone for 12 hours once off of 1 quarter, which was enough to get me the world record (although it only stood for a little over a year). Came really close on Tempest and also just missed the mark on Zaxxon. Back then most of the world records came from either North Carolina or California so there was a tournament to see which state would ultimately break the most records and I have to say, as a 16 year old kid that was quite a blast to get together with so many great gamers and do what we lived for. California (which is where I lived at the time) won by a considerable amount.
 
Ahh hearing these game names again really take me back. i was never that good really but i would always go to the arcade after school and put the last of my bus money in the slot....knowing the inevitable walk home wasnt too far away :)

Not just words, mate. I will be brutally honest and tell you that I cursed your name when I logged in last week and saw you had beaten every single one of my times. Kept me busy trying to get my position back. I can't remember now how many I was able to reclaim.

Duck is a real pain my backside. Every time I think I have him beat he puts up a faster time. I did notice that I tend to do better as the power of the car increases (Which some say is the sign of a **** driver). I just couldn't make that Leaf go. :) I just did the section with the Spec-V II GT-R Nur '02. I felt like I was fighting the car the entire time. I used to love 4-wheel drive cars when I first starting playing GT1. Now, I only use them with the torque split set up like a FR. It's nice to have the stability in the corners, but the understeer sucks.

I haven't heard anything but business out of you for a few days, so I figured a little jab would open up your jaw. My drug of choice back then was Galaga. Wasn't very good at it, but I spent a ton of money playing. I was never that good at upright arcade games. Every once in a while I'd get my name on a machine, but never anything like a national title.
