I'm starting to think that PD loves cars without interiors. haha
No but seriously, I would rather have a "mediocre" interior rather than no interior at all.
Problem with straight up modeling those simple (placeholder) interiors into the game is that some Vision cars would have better interior than others, plus all Vision cars would have inferior interiors than regular premium cars. Just look at the pictures.
That means...."standard" interiors. "Standard" is an euphemism for "incomplete job", a problem which substantially diminishes the quality of the GT series.
In order to deal with that potential issue what should be done is either not having interiors for prototypes that have a roof (like right now) or develop them well from scratch, for all of them (what PD seems to be working on).
I thought the idea of the project was to let the designers create a vision for us, the players, to enjoy. I think in the case of Toyota, VW, and Merc, they made a full scale model (and Toyota might make a consumer version), but again, the concepts were detached from the rest of the program sort of speak. So why wouldn't they design a final interior? Correct me if I'm wrong though.
Further more, while I really admire the entire project and most of the car designs, I do think it is a bit of a hackjob to deliver a car with no interior what so ever. I'm majoring in graphic design, so I can see the production aspect of it all to some degree. But to call these cars a mockup or something like that doesn't make sense. Again, I might need reminding on what the companies participating were planning on doing with these concepts, but I figure an interior would be some that makes sense to include with the digital car.
That comes down to how each manufacturer works, but as I said in real life prototypes don't have fully made interiors - just like the Vision cars don't - and there's a reason for that: designing an interior is as hard as designing the exterior.
I think the hackjob would be PD releasing those mock up, really really really simple interiors. What they are doing right now is taking the time to release well made, proper interiors, instead of "standard" quality content.
If there's one lesson to be learned in this whole GT5/GT6/GT7 process is that the goal should be to release a full and cohesive game, instead of aiming to have lots and lots of content but that is filled with shortcomings and inconsistencies all over the place.
1) Man have you seen that Infinity car with interior fitted in the picture above? Or that video with completely designed interior of DP-100? VW designed interior as well. Also Chapparal has al the instruments, displays designed. So that's at least 4 companies that have interiors done, 2 of which are in the game. That answers your first point.
2) Toyota has designed the original FT-1 with interior, how much job would have taken to redesign the one they have? Second point answered.
3) Well I don't say this for all manufactures, but some of them could be in the game allready as the ones I mentioned before. I'm not complaining about all of the cars. And PD can't even make interiors without permision of the manufacturer.
I don't wanna be rude, but think at least. Your points are nothing new. It was answered allready, either the interiors are in the process or PD is just waiting to make the game interesting till the GT7 and release the interiors later. Eitherway, we won't see them for a while at least if so...
Yes I have. Do you really think those are completely made interiors? Do you really think those interiors express a Vision, the future of interiors? Nope, those are just placeholders, with a generic wheel, generic seats, lack of buttons and generic, ps2-quality panel design that doesn't even fit.
As for your second point, you'd have to ask the manufacturers really and your question sincerely doesn't answer anything.
But again, there's a reason why both prototypes in real life and prototypes in the game tend to only have a placeholder interior, which is that it takes a tremendous effort to fully design an interior.
Applying that to the Vision cars, what you seem to not be understanding here is that creating a Vision car is way, way, way, way more demanding than just modelling some existing car.
As for your third point, even in the case you think those are indeed complete and nice, What would you personally do with the cars that you admit do not have a completely designed interior, for example the Subbie?
As I said, it'd be quite a bad idea to release only some in the mean time and frankly would be an awful job to release some Vision cars with better interiors than others.
Also it has to be said you are assuming that PD can't make the interiors itself, without any proof of that.
Anyway, in the end what you and others describe as your solution is the very reason why there's "standard" cars, "standard" sounds and "standard" tracks in the recent games. That inconsistency is the biggest flaw in the GT series and what that shows is lack of planning and of succumbing to fan pressure.
Instead what should be done is releasing things when all of the process is complete and when content has to be updated quality-wise then the aspects that are subpar should be removed or not included (like the Vision cars' interiors) until a whole category is finished, no matter the complaints from fans. What should be done is what they are doing: release all the interiors when they are all completely done or nothing, which is better than having quality inconsistencies around for years to come.
To put a concrete example, yes forza 5 was criticized for removing a lot of content but now you see the car models there are better than the best from the GT series and, most importantly, GT7 will still have "standard" (ps2) content. Turn 10 made the better call on that matter. Now, if it were for you PD would repeat the same mistake, with some Vision cars having those "standard interiors" (unfinished) and some Vision cars not having interior at all.
