Fernando Alonso has completed just two races this season for the Renault Formula 1 team and is already flirting openly with his rivals at Ferrari. If Renault can't go back to winning races the Spaniard said he wants to leave and join the best team, which is Ferrari he says.

"I always try to be in the best car," the double world champion said. "I'm at Renault now because I wanted to go back to winning, like in 2005 and 2006. But I have an option to leave so I can still be in the best possible car, and it is clear that Ferrari's is one of the best."

Felipe Massa has a contract until the end of the 2010 season, but after two poor performances in Australia and Malaysia the Brazilian is fully under pressure at Ferrari. "It's early to talk about moves and rumours, but Massa has had two bad races with mistakes and that has kicked off speculation," Alonso said. "It's logical, but as I said, it's too early."

Alonso is openly saying he would like to join Ferrari basically, because Renault suck and hes better than Massa.

Could Ferrari cope with two world Championship contenders? Could Alonso cope with a rival world Championship contending team mate?

I think the answer is no to both.

Well that didn't last long......
Alonso, you need to stop b:censored: and moaning about how bad the car is. You should act like a 2-Time World Champion and not some hot shot driver who wants the best of everything...... :grumpy:

Exactly, just like how he and Hamilton ended up in McLaren. As if Alonso never learned his lesson........ sheesh!

Alonso's goal has always been Ferrari. The third most-disliked F1 person after Hamilton and Dennis (in Spain) was Jean Todt, because he always said he wasn't interested in Alonso. The second Todt stepped down, almost all the news centered on the chance of Alonso joining Ferrari sooner rather than later. Many even said Massa would be "bought out" of his contract by Red Bull.

With that said, I think it's fairly obvious Alonso wouldn't last long in a team where he isn't #1, and in Ferrari I think they'd go more for Kimi who is a bit more 'manageable' than Fernando.

With so many talented young drivers around, i can't see how Alonso would hold much value to Ferrari at the moment. Especially with his probable high salary expectations.

It's pretty simple really why we won't see Alonso at Ferrari while Kimi is there. Alonso just won't follow team orders if kimi is the better chance at taking the championship and the whole mclaren saga will start over.

Though I don't see Massa lasting much longer if he doesn't improve by the end of the season. Like I said in another thread, I'd love to see Vettel at Ferrari.

He's a pudgy, arrogant donkey whose time has passed. I'm not certain of his talent at all. Senna would have just knuckled down and driven faster/harder/dirtier.

I'd expect to see Rossi in a Ferrari drive before Alonso.

I'd rather Vettel make the jump to Ferrari. Then Kimi'd be in trouble:trouble:

All I know is that last two Grands Prix have been 'fairly' boring without Fernando Alonso in the thick of the battle. If I were LDM (I'm not), I'd want the man who pretty consistently outdrove MSC. Those were great times and given that was done with R25& R26, I'd be keen to see what he could do in a Ferarri. There has been a shake-up at the Scuderia (Domenicali), and they are looking for a new era post-MSC. They are known for #1 drivers and I think they gladly would give it to the Spaniard, who doesn't need help from a team-mate to win WDC's.

But would they want someone that would risk the WCC for the WDC? Besides, they already have the World Champion. I don't think they will need a new #1 driver until at least the end of Kimi's contract.

Alonso and Kimi in the same team would be bad...as soon as Kimi starts out doing Alonso (which he most likely would at times) it'd kick off all over again like it did with Hamilton unless Alonso grows up.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was this close to PM you for an autographed head shot. :dopey:

I think Kubica is doing find in BMW.

There can only be one WC at a time in Ferrari, so they know who to give team orders to.

Apparently he's todays news...
No, I mean he's not going to get the Ferrari drive. If he can't help dig Renault out of the rut they're in at the moment, Ferrari aren't going to want to sign him. This is the second time in as many years that he's considered jumping ship the moment the waters start looking rough for him. He'll be seen as unreliable and a liability to boot. If he got the Ferrari seat and had a season like Massa's so far, he'd be talking about going somewhere else again. There are other faster, younger and cheaper drivers available - someone mentioned Vettel, and I agree - whom Ferrari could have a lasting partnership with instead of Alonso.

Fernando needs to stay put. Renault will sort their car out within the next 12 months, and they'll have a realistic shot at the '09 title with him on board. In Piquet Jr he has a team mate who simply does not have the pace to threaten him (cf Trulli, Fisichella), which will enable Alonso to pull the team around him in the way he did in '05 & '06, but catastrophically failed to do in '07. He needs to use '08 as a bedding-in year, to build loyalty whilst putting up with a rubbish car, and then using it as a springboard for a full championship assault in '09, by which time Piquet may actually be able to drive.

Di Montezemolo wants Alonso or Raikkonen, and doesn't care which. Now he has Raikkonen in and settled, I don't think he would see any real value in paying Alonso's exhorbitant salary demands. Yes, Ferrari are a rich team, but I don't think they've ever paid an eight figure salary to the second driver. And in saying second, I refer to Alonso as the second joiner, not necessarily the second in terms of team perception.

But could he take the team leader role from Kimi if he was hired? Of course, we can't tell definitively how he would fit in to the team structure. But one thing is clear to me: whilst Alonso is brilliant over a race distance, especially with a less than fully healthy car, Raikkonen is definitely ultimately faster, especially in a healthy car. I base this on having watched the live timing screens since they were rolled out on formula1.com. Kimi is capable of setting purple sector after purple sector, for lap after lap. I think Kimi can take a car to 100% of its ability, and hold it there, continually. Or until he gets bored, or until the car breaks. Fernando, I think, can hold a car at 98% of its ability for roughly 17 years if he needs to, and that makes him tremendous over a race distance (how awesome would he be triple-stinting an LMP1! ) So you have to theorise how those two differing abilities would curry favour within the Ferrari organisation. It's a difficult call, but I think they'd gravitate to Kimi.

Plus, I think Fernando is more at home at Renault, and should put his & Flav's fiscal greed aside.

Excellent, 'gg'. Nice post, you should weigh-in more often. It IS his (FA) consistency that makes him a relentless threat. Who's fastest is entirely subjective to several factors, but mainly the car, which this issue is all about. Massa has it 'Nando don't. I don't believe Fernando brought THIS up, but the 'press', for want of a story during 2 week hiatus to Sakhir. Only natural to speculate what could 'be'...

If Renault lets Alonso walk to Ferrari, Briatore deserves to never win a championship again, for not standing up to Alonso.

It's like the ordinary guy who lets himself get used by the hot chick who dumps him for a rich guy, then comes back to him so he can feed her ego. And he gladly abides.

Renault are obligated to provide him with competitive car and haven't, AND Pat Symonds (chief engineer) admits it. Fernando's career is not infinite (17 yrs gg?) and it's natural a driver of his fantastic talent longs for a fast car, while Massa has one and can't handle it. I think the Régie will do everything they can to keep him & give him the car he needs. Let it be soon.

Ferrari not interested in signing Alonso

Bringing Fernando Alonso to Ferrari to partner world champion Kimi Raikkonen would not be desirable, team president Luca di Montezemolo said on Tuesday.

Alonso denied this month that he had an escape clause in his contract with struggling Renault that might allow him to leave for Ferrari at the end of the Formula One season.

However, Spain's double world champion did say contracts were "very flexible" given his departure from McLaren last year.

Felipe Massa's shaky start for world champions Ferrari this season increased the speculation.

However, Massa won in Bahrain and now Montezemolo has said Alonso would not be the ideal driver.

"To line up a Raikkonen-Alonso double act would mean wanting to damage yourself. I want two equal drivers that work together," the president told Tuesday's Gazzetta dello Sport.

Di Montezemolo also said he would be devoting more time to Ferrari after stepping down as head of Italy's industry body.

Alonso, meanwhile, told El Pais newspaper on Monday that his future at Renault would depend on the team providing him with a car capable of fighting on top.

"There are a lot of factors to evaluate," the Spaniard said. "My first option is to stay with Renault if we manage to create a winning car, and the truth is that we are moving forwards.

"But what I do want is a car with which I can win. There are several, Williams, Toyota, BMW and Ferrari, of course, who are always on top no matter what. I wouldn't want to continue fighting to get into Q3."

I follow Alonso whatever he drives. Now I hate Ferrari just slightly less than McLaren! LDM stated he wants 2 'equal' drivers... who was MSC's 'equal' counterpart? Whatever... Fernando Alonso shall have his revenge. And screw equality, it's such politically correct BS. A talent like Alonso's deserves to be showcased. I personally, for one, hope Renault can pull their collective heads from their asses and deliver Nando a real car. I'd also like to take the opportunity to point out McLaren's lapse in performance which directly coincides with Fernando's departure. 'Speed merchant' indeed... Hamilton is suffering for lack of Nando's setup skills. Alonso 'retired' MSC, he'll do the same favor for Iceman once he gets another fast car. Revenge...

Almost mate. You should have left out McLaren. It's too fanboy-ish too reply:yuck:

Alonso 'retired' MSC,

If anyone 'retired' MSC, it's Kimi Räikkönen. I'm sure MSC did not retire because he couldn't beat Alonso. I think MSC just didn't like the idea to have Räikkönen in the same team. And I'm sure MSC did also not retire because he felt too old. Just look what he is does now: motorbike racing...

After this display...

Watch Indy races? No, thank you. Can't be that hard to drive Indy car, they allow women *snicker* ie Dannica Patrick. And drive in circles. What next, A1gp? Please, no more... *fart*, ahh!
Indy? ROFLOL

I don't see why you think anyone should take you seriously. I mean, c'mon, darkfinal is Spanish and doesn't spout off nearly as much garbage as you do.

Get a grip.

As for Ferrari's seat, I want to say they'll pursue Vettel, but I'd need to see an improvement this season, and he would have to stay at that level. Otherwise...I dunno, maybe they'll take a stab at Nico.

Hey what who?

Even if I partially agree with you, I can't help but spot a hint of racism xenophobia there, relationing my Spanish heritage with speaking garbage. And then, all of us are monsters because a couple retards called Hamilton "Negro".

That was a lucid comment, pal.
