Long time reader, but low post count.
First, thanks to all the contributors for providing tons of insight, tips etc. and the moderators for keeping things in shape.

This is not a rant, more a summary of why i think i am going to move on - why post? I am curious to see where everybody else stands. I am hoping people will share how they feel about the game a couple months away from its release anniversary.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the game in the last 8 months or so, for a lot of reasons:
- outstanding graphics (i'm on a projector, it helps..)
- premium cars
- tracks
- DFGT integration
- competitiveness (online) especially in leagues

But i think that's it for me..As opposed to my hopes, i never quite found the fun i got out of other older games (TOCA 3 back on the PS2..).
In brief:
- A spec is not really finish-able for me without in race saves (time constraints)
- AI is not challenging anymore (tyre set ups, pit strategies, etc.) except for a couple seasonals
- grind/credit system is still somewhat broken
- Garage is tiring without a better management system (tabs, car types, etc.)
- no multiple set up saves
- standard cars..so disappointing
- online is broken for me since the psn outage - never ever had connection pbms before and now i can hardly join a public session without sync issues (yes game up to date, solid connection, data uninstalled/ played from disc/ then re-installed) I know PSN is free, but still (and no i don't have a 360) 👎👎
- online sessions (this is where i am not going to make friends): they were somewhat varied but now it feels like it comes down to a lot of drift (not my cup of tea), F1s, nascar on daytona, low pps, nordschleife/nurb 24h .
- no full G27 support 👎
- no liveries 👎
- no cross game chat (i know it's PS not PD's fault)

With this in mind, I think i need to move on to a more "sandbox" environment like rfactor where the experience is a lot more tweakable, and in complement probably a more "controlled" competitive environment like iRacing. I am not having much fun anymore, having the game on for 2-3 hours some nights and getting 15-20 mins of good clean racing action all in all (between loading, looking for sessions, failed connections, host incompatibility, rooms not as advertised..).

I know there is probably a lot of good things (DLC cars and tracks, UI tweaks, etc.) coming GT5's way, but i can't really stick around anymore.
Of note, it's seeing the creativity of the community and how resourceful it can get (trades, leagues, photomode competitions (guys, seriously, so impressive every week) that tells me what this game could really be IN GAME rather than having to find workarounds for everything...

selling the game and my DFGT. my first pc rig in a long time is coming in tmrw.

(one last thing, i love my japanese friends, but sometimes it feels like the game developers from the far east make games to have you play them the way THEY want, not use the content like you would like to :ouch:..)

I am curious to hear how everybody else feels at this point :dunce: and constructive commentary on how you are enjoying the game

Na, for all the faults I find, I still love GT5. Many of the points you've pointed out on the negative side don't apply to me. I understand your problems though and can only recommend finding a new way to play, otherwise giving up may be the right choice.

I understand you, had a similar feeling a while ago (was about to sell my GT5) so I thought about it but instead of selling I just stopped playing GT5 for about 2 month but now I'm back and it feels good.
Still missing some features but hopefully they will come in time..

Stop playing GT5 instead of selling your PS3 and god forbid, play other games!
And when you feel like playing again maybe they have fixed some issues.

I don't play as often as I used to. Maybe because I'm not feeling that motivated to level up anymore as the top levels requires insane amounts of xp. I'm mostly playing online now, but I cut down on that as well because of the connection issues.

I would never sell my ps3, dfgt and gt5 though, because it's still a great game and even if I don't play every day, or even every week, it's still nice to take the cars out for a spin now and then.

I am still far away from finishing the game my garage has about 30 % of the cars and its good so i want to enjoy this game for more then 1 year

I was done with this game too. Then i played Shift 2 for about 6 hours in total. After that i was so happy to go back to GT5 👍
Now i`m trying to master the ring (24hrs version of it). I want to do the 4 hrs Nurburgring, i want to get to level 40 a-spec, i want to test some more cars, improve my lap times, win the FGT championship, do new seasonals, do some arcade racing, and so on.
I just like to race and this game provides that for me. I race against myself (i want to improve lap times) so i`m not bothered by the AI which i usually overpower with my fully tuned, racing softs equipped cars.

I guess I've become bored with GT5 due to it's lack of anything new in the way of cars or tracks, it's lack of livery editor and really it's lack of A-Spec events. Seeing as those are the three main things I want from a 'sim' racing game I'm going to be going over to FM4 once it's released.

I see where the OPs coming from . Other than a couple of special events im pretty much done with A-spec.

The ai provides no contest so the only challenge exists online. I have been getting lobby disconnected a lot recently which never happened before.

On garage sorting OP is bang on, automatically sorted by date acquired why ? we should be able to arrange it how we please.

The lack of a garage icon is a frustation is it makes going from one car to another harder than it should be. Thats another reason I use my lounge online but that brings its own issues mentioned above.

The only things keeping me going are tuning cars and ive recently joined a TOCA series.

I play almost every night even if it's just for half an hour. I rarely use GTlife other than to run B-Spec remote races and even the it's on server mode.

What I do is take an average car, saw a BMW M3 coupé and do 15 laps around a descent track with all aids off, even ABS and damage on heavy. MT, cockpit mode and pro level in arcade mode.

Arcade mode is the way forward. Depending on your choice of car, you may need to be a top driver even to finish in the points! Sometimes you may get an easier set of AI like I did with the M3 last night, but you'll still need to put in descent, mistake free laps to win. Try it, it may bring some new life into your game.

Sure GT5 isn't perfect, nor is any other game but it's still one that I just can't put down. I will continue to buy the series for as long as they keep it runnin'. :)

I stopped playing in April because I had most of the cars, I'd done enough of the A Spec and I wasn't going to complete all the challenges. I played some other games for a few months and then went back to GT one day cos I'd seen some good motor racing on TV. I've since been playing it daily and enjoying the seasonals. I'm also playing online with people I know rather than random people and that's still fun.

Like with the old GT games I've got about as far as I need to, but I'll always come back because the driving and racing is still fun. Just like some other games are still fun to go back to. But I've had more hours of fun on GT5 than any other PS3 game I've had. :)

I totally understand you frustration opposed to GT5. There are so many faults in this game that has been caused by PDs labelled "poor management". To me this game is not for hardcore gamers, or more in particular, people who play the game for extended periods of time. For me, I play GT5 mainly to drive. I love to buy new cars and go to time trial in practice mode and see how fast I can get in my lap times. When you do as I do, in short but frequent intervals, you truly see the magic in the game and why GT5 is a "true Gran Turismo".
Just my opinion. :)

Hobbescene, i don`t think you`re about done with GT5. I think that`s why you created this thread, hoping for some convincing arguments. So many people who are about done but do not want to quit completely, why is that?

i was done a while ago

didn't play it for 2 months or so

and then got into drifting

I left for 5-6 months after thinking GT5 sucked on release but when I came back and found all these seasonal's ocd's etc I was almost in heaven.:)

There are way to many good people out there just to give. You must not be very good, too good or your internet is holding you back. I race in a couple of race series. Very competative and because of that we have very addicting races. On the free time left i do a setup for the next race, run seasonals and time trials. Maybe do a few challenges posted on this site. Sorry if you feel that way....you'll be back!

Juz wondering if u have tried challenging urself in different ways in gt5. Played first round with many assist on, overpowered car, race soft. Round 2 with assist off and similarly spec cars but still race soft. Now on third round with underpowered stock car and stock tires with driving line off. Next, will be trying manual transmission then on to tuning and drifting. Maybe some photo mode and online races. So much to do.

Fair point - of note for posters above, i am not selling my ps3 and i will most likely just put the game on a shelf for a while. selling the DFGT though and getting a G27+ pc.

I'm not "too good" (def not the fastest around) but i would think i'm far from bad either..def have played without any aids since day one (ABS 1) and not systematically on racing soft either. For a benchmark, i took an hour or so the other day to try the eiger rally time trial that recently expired and i ended inside the top 400 (for what it's worth..)

my set up skills are average, as i don't have the bandwidth to put in as many laps as i wish. Also the tire wear is badly handled IMO..

glad to see so many people responding positively though, this community is really on top! :)
I will be on iRacing and rfactor (the early 90's F1 mods, ahhh!) but will keep an eye on what's happening around here

GT5 gets very boring unless you make it interesting.
Online will improve - new servers (GT5:Prologue's) are comming at the end of September.

1st post - Hi GTPlanet!

I've been playing since release*. How do I feel?

Basically I find online to be the reason to play the game. If you're not completely or heavily devoted to online game, then I think GT5 is probably best skipped. A-Spec is just bad. The worst part being that it's mandatory. But even for those who would like a single player racing experience, it doesn't offer much. There isn't really any actual racing to be had offline between the bare bones "cars on a race track for 1 or 2 laps" events and the underskilled AI.

Online on the other hand, has kept me playing since the beginning. I don't think I'll ever tire of it. I do agree with you that finding good rooms can be tough, and that is partially PD's fault/oversight. But as long as you're willing to perhaps compromise a little in terms of your ideal room vs what's available, you should find something to do most of the time. There's also this site which should be taken advantage of. League racing, and just going into chat or the spot race forum and starting a quick event. I haven't really done much of the latter, but I'm starting to consider it when I have time.

*I forgot to mention that despite that, I've only been able to play GT in November (2 days), December, January, And June-now. This might account for why I'm not tire of it, though I doubt that I would be ready to even take a break if I had played from Nov to now.

Sure GT5 isn't perfect, nor is any other game

A bit off to the side, but I don't really think that statement brings much to the table. It's true, but it's not an excuse for anything. I think it actually misses the point entirely 99% of the time when it's brought up.

I've enjoyed the game for a longer time than most (GT3 was my biggest time loser) and I know I'll keep coming back as long as they keep tweaking.

Playing Driver now, yes I know it's arcadey, but the licensed cars are for the most part well rendered and the damage model at least looks like proper car damage (shattered glass, scratches missing panels etc) but that's not why I'm playing. I'm playing cos it's fun. I imagine that fun won't last as long as the GT addiction did, but so what.

As for the op, I can see where you're coming from, just not sure if I'd be selling stuff. But then again, I got my DFGT working on my pc.

I share in all the faults about the game as you do, Hobbes, however, I am finding enjoyment in driving many different cars around the Nürburgring track, and some Seasonals to keep it fresh. I am also starting to tune my own cars, for my own driving style, even if I don't get a good tune going, at least I know it's my tune, and won't give up at that, will start from scratch. It's little things like rediscovering how to take a turn that you have taken 10,000 times, and trying a different approach to it, to surprise yourself in a good way, that keeps me coming back.

I am also assuming there will never be any DLC for this game ever, and am enjoying it for what it is. Online F1 is fun, it is more competitive, because even pro F1 drivers will spin out, and you can gain on that. Shuffle racing where everyone gets the same car, is fun too. Knowing the track you are driving, is more than half the battle.

sometimes racing against a league of friends, and you join that room, isn't fun, they can be very dirty racers. Host your own, join others. Don't take kicks personally, everyone here got kicked at least once for whatever reason.

I understand where the OP is coming from entirely. In my opinion GT5 has given me the most fun out of the series yet , and online racing challenged me to up my game and search for every tenth and brake 5 metres later than everyone else , just to get that position.

PD have said that they're bringing us more things to do which can only be a good thing , although I wish they were more vocal on the subject. How hard can it be for them to tell us what's coming rather than just staying silent & causing rumours and confusion ?

My advice to the OP would be to give GT5 a break , maybe branch out into other race sims in the meantime.

You never know , you might start to miss it.
Good luck with your decision.

:)

What are you talking about? It's a true statement and no one will ever think a game is perfect and of course it doesn't prove anything but it's true.

I agree with you Crazed Coupe.

Ignore Exorcet , he's GTP's regular troll.

👍

No where near done, yet.

- Not yet at A spec lvl 40 (i'm at 37.6. Whats the big rush all about?).
- Still got to do the A spec endurance races.
- Haven't filled my garage with 1000 cars yet.
- Online racing is a gas (if you get a good room that is).
- Looking forward to some (possible) new content.
- Need to gold some of the AMG school and () Vettel.

Also, I think that if you haven't golded all of your licence tests, you aren't done.

online racing is really good though. Even when all the blah within the game is done, online will still captivate me.👍

Thanks man. 👍

I have yet to see him agree with anyone on the forum. 👎

Well, let me ask then. Why say it? What purpose does that statement serve?

I usually see it when a post responds to another post that has something negative to say about GT5 which implies that the complaint isn't justified because no game can be perfect.

"No game is perfect, therefore complains are unjustified" doesn't quite make sense. No one is complaining that GT5 isn't perfect, just that it has not met a certain standard. As a consumer, it's in your best interest to voice when something doesn't meet your standards and why instead of covering up for errors. I see "no game is perfect" as the latter.

I'm got fed up and sold my first copy, I was persuaded to buy it again , I'm enjoying it now but it could be so much better. If forza four is any good I'll probably move onto that and not come back to gt5.
