And yes, it's real.

Another thing that might send the USA back to the past is that 25% tariff on car parts. Might wind up looking like Cuba back in the day with classic cars everywhere.

Apparently, foreign movies are a "National Security threat" now.
I only find this amusing b/c Mathew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson are trying to bring the film industry to Texas by acquiring incentives so more TV shows & movies can be made here which thereby, would be helping the Texas economy as well.

But all the dumb MAGA chuds in Texas heard was bring the film industry, and have been going, "No! No Peedo Hollywood in mah Texgis!"

Since this is tied to the CDC I wonder if Mr. Brainworm himself is pushing this or is coming from somewhere else. You would think this White House would not want to cut off funding for brain injury research as it's plain to see the entire staff of the White House and the executive branch suffer from some sort of brain injury.

This part is very sad.

Staffers interviewed by ESPN declined to speak on the record, citing fears of administration retribution.

Is this what we want in this country? People afraid to speak up because they might face retribution from this administration?

I’m just trying to understand how the people that are supposed to follow the law are themselves not upholding the law and most of all are afraid of the law… the law(s) that are to protect everyone!
Because the Republicans are afraid of their crazed base and as a result, sit there and do nothing.

I know Legal Eagle isn't 100% un biased... but these things are like, "is this half true? because even then it's ****ed up"

So does that mean because the President invited them, they can be people who can show up carrying weapons?

Well apparently ... yes. US voters elected Trump and in spite of the fact that GTPlanet is now simply an echo chamber for anti-Trumpers, a significant number of Americans seem to be very happy with the way things are going. The mainstream media and social media are now so polarized in what they present that I realize that the MAGA crowd simply hears a positive slant on everything Trump all the time. They have no reason to question what's going on.

I recently had a (heated) discussion with a 70-something Canadian friend of mine who used to have left-of-centre views but has gradually drifted further and further to the MAGA right. In a discussion about tariffs I brought up an article in the Economist. He dismissed it out of hand as a "leftist rag" (although he admitted he had never read it). This is what we're dealing with nowadays: completely differing versions of reality constantly being reinforced by what they see and read. 😕

Piggybacking on the scared to speak the truth reality and the rule of law concern.

It’s crazy. There are strength in numbers and these scared lawyers and corporations, there are more of them than Trump. Not everyone of them are corrupt, but damn, man, get a backbone and use what they know to put Trump in his place at the kiddie table.

Why do you believe this to be the case?
Do you mean why do I believe this to be the case ... or why do I believe this to be the case? 🤔

There are no longer any any dissenting opinions posted here. I'm pretty positive that there are many GTPlanet members who are MAGA enthusiasts - the demographics of members would seem to suggest this - but none are prepared to step up anymore to make their opinions heard. Everybody posting here has a similar point of view - I don't know if that is particularly helpful, but it is the way things are now with people polarized into separate camps.

It's difficult to argue Trumpisum in any rational way. So when someone far-right leaning comes on here to argue a point they are easily shot down by waves of rational arguments that stand up to logic and reason.

Many of those who are more vocal with their anti-Trump stance on here are, or previously were, quite right-leaning in their political views. Its just that the political battlegrounds have shifted further right in the last 10 years or so. Those who are right of centre by most metrics now find their views closer to what would have been traditional left views to what MAGA has become.

MAGA isn't right-of-centre. It's not GOP Republican any more. Its proper far right stuff. They're trying hard to frame it as traditional right of centre vs 'loony leftism' but that's not the political shift that's happened.

That's not what an echo chamber is.

Echo chambers require an active component, wherein participants are shielded from contrary points of view.

That is not the case. We do not prevent people from posting non-anti-Trump thoughts, opinions, or arguments.

Action is only taken when people who break the AUP, and while that does seem to be more a common behaviour among those who also express MAGAesque notions it is by no means exclusive. It's not retrospective either; moderator action applies only to the post(s) in question or the member going forward and it does not erase their past messages with their opposing viewpoints.

If you're encountering fewer posts and individuals making these points here, it's not by design but elective on behalf of those members.

I'd imagine it's quite hard to successfully argue in favour of many of Trump's policies or actions, not least since Trump himself doesn't appear to have a coherent stance on just about anything. Trump has repeatedly contradicted himself and even seems to be unaware of stuff he's said just a few days earlier. To agree with Trump practically requires that you don't analyse what he says.

After watching what Trump said about Alcatraz, I'm beginning to think he didn't do so well during his physical.

Him being "fully fit" could mean he doesn't need a belt to hold his pants up. Plus, "he got every answer right" could be he said his first and last name, for the record.

Well, anyway, if he's officially of sound mind, all he's doing he knows darn well he's doing wrong.

Is NASA (say) an echo chamber for people who believe the laws of physics are an effective model for the world around us and beyond? It's like saying we're an anti-flat earth echo chamber and are biased against alternative facts.

How it started:

0.957 - The NCAA has complied immediately by the way, that's good, but I understand Maine - is Maine here, the governor of Maine?
Governor Janet Mills - I'm here.
0.957 - Are you not going to comply with it?
GJM - I'm complying with state and federal law
0.957 - Well I'm... we are the federal law
GJM - [inaudible]
0.957 - Well you better do it, you better do it, because you're not going to get any federal funding at all if you don't, and by the way your population even though it's somewhat liberal, although I did very well there, your population doesn't want men playing in women's sports so you better you better comply because otherwise you're not getting any federal funding.
GJM - See you in court.
0.957 - Every state... good I'll see you in court, I look forward to that, that should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after Governor because I don't think you'll be in elected politics

How that's going for him:

Person man woman camera tv.

What does one expect from a pig but a grunt? It's just him flooding the zone as usual.

Of course he didn't. He's bragging about "acing" a test they give people suspected of dementia, going on that he got a score his doctors have never seen before. It's 30 questions, most people between the ages of 10-60 can "ace it" b/c they're supposed to.
The Montreal Cognitive Assessment is a brief screening tool designed to detect mild cognitive impairment and early stages of dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease. It evaluates cognitive functions like memory, attention, language, visuospatial skills, executive function, and orientation through tasks such as drawing, naming, recalling words, and performing calculations.

That's before they want us to believe his physical shows he's the same height & weight as Patrick Mahomes....
