I think truck nuts are incredibly stupid but probably don't need to be outright banned.

I'd have to imagine most of the people affected by this are supporters of said party, so an interesting own goal here.

Yeah, but that's not the point of it. The point of it is that the bill (now law) was drafted to be so vague as to make it seem like it addresses legitimate harm but also so that it can be enforced at a high rate against transgender individuals and drag. It's ultimately a good that it was described as a truck nuts ban because of its overbroad absurdity but it does obfuscate the intent somewhat.
