Paris is outta there, I think Elliot is next

From the replay, I'd figured as much. She actually did okay, poor kid, and was more consistent than Elliot or Katharine... Unfortunately, they both picked it up in the second round, and it's that round that leaves a bigger impression with the audience.

Don't count Elliot out yet... the next elimination really depends on who's more consistent... him, or McPhee.

Taylor's back on a high. May not be able to beat Chris, but it's good to see him back in form.

Chris was terrific in his first number. For his second... yes, I kow it was his voice going, but I've never been terribly impressed when he picks new songs. I like it better when he sings stuff with melodies. I hated the Creed performance, and even without his voice breaking, I doubt I would've liked this.

He's still probably going to win.

I just can't understand who is voting for Taylor. I don't recall him ever being in the bottom three, and he's definitely no more than average as a singer. Elliot is far better, and yet he keeps landing bottom three spots each week.

Sorry to see Paris go, she will be a huge star one day with any luck. She's got incredible raw talent that still needs some refining, but when she polishes up she's going to be big.

I never thought Paris was all that great. But people like my mom (late 40 year old women) love Taylor and they are watching the show more and more. I guess they like to see the older guy with grey hair up on stage.

My personal favorite is Chris but I don't think he will win, althought some rock band will pick him up.

For sure. I think all of the Top 6 will find some degree of success in the music industry after the show. I mean, If Bo Byce (or however you spell that talentless dweeb's last name) can get a deal, any one of the Top 6 this year are better than him. Did anyone see the episode this year where he was the guest singer? I hesitate to call what came out of his mouth any form of communication known to man, let alone music.

I remember changing the channel during that, because it was offensive to my ears.

Yes, the top 5 could all be successful, but I wonder what is in that contract they signed for the show. I can't imagine that they would let other record companies use the show as a talent-scouting opportunity.

Taylor Hicks was horrible. If he's not next, there is something wrong with America.

Every hick in the united states is probably too stupid to figure out that they aren't related.

Hmmm... what's all the Taylor bashing about?

While I agree that Elliot Yamin is a far better singer, Taylor does have talent, and when he's on, he rarely hits a sour note. His timing his good, he doesn't hit any flats or sharps, and he's wacky on stage. :dopey: EDIT: Oh, okay, I still have issues with his diction, and some of the songs he picks don't suit him at all. But I know a lot of people with their money on him. That dark horse just keeps on running.

Elliot really needs to shape up. He's a terrific singer, and probably a good bet for a recording contract, but he gives in to nerves a bit too easily. His voice is to die for, his pitch and diction are impeccable... he's just got to stay consistent.

People are voting for personality and looks. That's how Paris lasted this long... how Kelly got into the top 6... thank God that wasn't Ace or Bucky... and that's how come Taylor's never been bottom 3 (hasn't got the looks, but he's got personality)... and that's how Katharine McPhee is holding on (though she can sing... sometimes). C'mon, remember Jasmine Trias? She absolutely sucked. Still, with a big Hawaiian and Filipino following, she pulled really really close in what should have been a no-contest.

After this last show, I think Katharine is out. Taylor held it together, and Elliot really stepped it up... heck, he was better than Chris tonight... and I take back one criticism... Elliot can sing the loud songs!

I think so too, which is a shame, because she's quite easy on the eyes and has an amazing voice. She just hasn't had the blow-away performances recently.

Bet the ratings will actually go down during the finals because of this... :dopey:

Chris goes home but Taylor stays...what the hell? And Katherine? She forgot her words! She should go home.

Yay, Chris is gone! Its about time, I was getting sick of my girlfriend drooling at the TV every tuesday and wednesday. :grumpy:

He was pretty good though, with a good band behind him, it would make a pretty good rock band...sorta like Staind meets I don't know Nickelback or soemthing.

I thought we weren't going to be able to get rid of him until the absolute last episode. He was pretty good and deserved to get this far, but he's just not special enough to be the winner. At this stage, it's hard to pick someone to leave the show; the decision isn't always so clear anymore.

Chris was consistantly better than any of the three left. I have no idea why people voted like this. There must have been enough horny 15 year-old guys to keep Katharine in, enough 40 year-old women voting to keep Taylor in, and enough 60 year-old women to keep Elliott in.

People have grown tired of Chris. He only shines when he sings a song he can make into growly rock song. Almost every song he sang was adapted to this style (hence why Simon said he was the only artist on American Idol that refused to compromise). This monotony was his downfall. That, and his stupid stare into the camera whenever he sang that made him look like a complete tool.

Oh, puh-lease! They all stare stupidly into the camera :dopey:

Not really... it's different with each one... Taylor does that constipated look... Katharine does that irritating puppy dog eyes thing... Elliot gives that gap toothed smirk... and Chris just gives the same stare each and every time. :dopey:

While I agree with Anderton about Chris's shortcomings, I really wasn't expecting this. Granted, Chris was kind of flat compared to the other two last week, but Katharine was far and away worse. Then again, the voters have shown that they're not afraid to put him in the bottom three before.

What we're seeing happen is that Katharine is the last girl left, and she's pulling a disproportionate voting block because of that. Not enough to win, but enough to bump some deserving people off.

While most of us here may like Chris, take in mind that he doesn't appeal to all demographics. My wife doesn't dig modern rock. Heck, I don't like Creed or that last rock song he sang (the other week)... they're just not my cup of tea... not as good as classic rock and roll. :indiff:

I think it's sad that when he sings different styles he doesn't get very many votes. I think his voice lends itself very well to melodic music.

In the end, this contest is all about consistency, people. If you're even slightly off your game one night, the other contestants' fan clubs will knock you off... quickly.

Okay, I can't stand the suspense of waiting for the replay... does Elliot get the boot?

Anderton Prime
Yes he is gone, and I am thoroughlly unhappy about it. How the hell did Katherine and Taylor get to the final show? It boggles my mind.
After Chris got voted off, I wanted Elliott to win. Both Katherine and Taylor have put in weak performances at times, and there were weeks when I thought either one of them could have been voted off. I don't really know who to pick now. It's possible that the likes of Paris, Chris, and Elliott will be more successful than either Taylor or Katharine.

Let's not forget poor Mandisa, who (let's face it) was voted off because of her weight. She was easily the best and most charismatic of the female vocalists, but she got robbed!

Mandisa is not better than Katherine.

Katherine can do a lot of different genres, but she needs heavy polishing. I think Katherine has the most potential out of all the contestants, and she should win in my opinion. Taylor Hicks already has his band and is already a f'ing superstar. He doesn't need this contest.

Couldn't agree more... Mandisa has just one thing... power. Katharine, I'm appalled to admit, actually has quite a bit of talent. She's got good range, terrific articulation, a good "soft" voice and "loud" voice, and lots of charisma.

If you have doubts on the "power" thing, listen back... she and Paris have a habit of oversinging (something that was more obvious with Paris) and couldn't articulate slow songs.

It's weird, this American obsession with "power divas" like Mandisa, Princess P and Katharine... we've had them for decades, and the entire genre just makes me go... meh... I've heard great divas and powerful divas, and there's definitely a difference between the two... just because you can hold a high "C" at full volume doesn't make you a good singer.

The audience may have been responsible for booting out Mandisa, but it was entirely her fault she was in the bottom three that week. That's true of any contestant... while elimination is a matter of luck... it takes a big mis-step to get into the bottom half in the first place.

Chris has done it twice... and while it's not mind-boggling to me that he's been booted, what's mind boggling is that in some of the instances he's been low on the vote, those are the times that I actually like his singing... :dopey: ...that said, he's still lacking in stage charisma... though I don't doubt he'll land a record deal soon...

________

Katharine's main problem, until now, is consistency. She hits too many bad notes and plays around with timing in a jazz-like manner... which may work for quirky, upbeat jazz songs, but just wrecks some of her performances of traditional ballads.

That said, yes, she does have huge potential... but in light of this competition, she doesn't deserve to win, because she hasn't had as many standout performances as Taylor has.

@Taylor's critics: set your prejudices aside and judge him on technical merit... he's doing well. There were times I thought he'd be eliminated for poor performances, but in the last three episodes, he's been solid. Don't underestimate him because he's a goof... his live performances are just about as good as live work by many, more established, rock singers. If you want a perfect note-for-note, why, yes, I believe he can do that, too.

I'm sad to see Elliot go. Not surprised, because he's not consistent enough... but at times, he's brilliant... good enough to give me goosebumps. Too bad he messed up his best chance at getting to the finals with his first song the other night. :(

_____

I'm picking Taylor as a 2:1 over Katharine for the finals... as there are no other guys left to split the vote. We saw this with Jasmine Trias (though Kat definitely sings better than she does)... she booted off a lot of good singers because she had the "cute girl" vote down pat... now as long as enough 12 year olds are in bed by the time AI voting opens next week, Taylor's got a chance.

niky, I think you put too much blame on the contestants for ending up in the bottom three. Since the majority of people voting are normal American Joe public-types, who know nothing about music (especially the teens who regularly listen to Britney and Jessica and Justin and all the rest of that crap). The votes aren't always determined solely by how well a contestant sang on the show, and I really wish people would take a singer who's had a bad night and remember how well (or how poorly, for those singers having a good night) they have performed in past shows. The voting should be for the entire package, not just one night where the category was something stupid like coutnry songs with Kenny Rogers.

I'd like to see a contest where the singers can simply choose what ever songs they want to sing all the way through... No doublt takes however, once a song is take, it's gone for that season... It's not like a guy like Chris is ever going to sing contry, if he won, he'd never ever sing contry on an album. Same gose for many of the other theme nights... What's up with Elvis, they either say it's a terrible arrangment or a bad Karioky (speeling) version of the song... They've done it every season and it's getting old. Have an all out war with the people singing their music... You wouldn't make an olympic swimmer run in a dash against a sprinter would you to find out who's the best... Why do that here?

The theme shows are pretty much the only thing that keeps the show interesting in the middle stages. It also shows which singers are actually good singers, and which are just good in their favorite genre. The best singers should be able to do well in most genres, not just their own.

That's the thing... it's not always the best singers, it's the ones who can adapt.

As for the bottom three comment, maybe it IS unfair, as there are some contestants who've gotten into the bottom three in episodes where they've been decent. What I'm saying is, if you give a performance worthy of the bottom three, no matter who you are, you're giving yourself a good chance of getting kicked.

Only a few singers have been lucky enough to avoid the axe, thanks to loyal fans... and sad to say, even though I like Taylor, these past two weeks have become merely that... a fan war. :(
