I left after about 1 1/4 hours, I was just too tired to stay up for it all and the race wasn't 'significant' enough for me to loose more sleep over.:guilty: As the usual punishment goes, I miss epic battles. Especially in GT:(. I'll try to catch highlights or something later.

I was glued to the screen for the entire 6 hours, but I'm feeling it now. When the race was over the sun was already starting to shine into my apartment at 5:30 AM. That felt weird seeing the sun had just gone down at Laguna Seca

Ouch!. I had the exact opposite feeling at the start of the race, pitch black at home but at Laguna Seca the sun was shining. It didn't feel like I was watching a live race.:boggled:

Anyone who missed part of the race can go back on the site that streamed the race and watch it again. I've just tried it and it works.

Awesome!, I haven't missed out on the action after all!.:) Thanks very much for the heads up!👍

Brilliant, thanks. Fell asleep duing the last 20mins and missed Long getting back into the lead.

Haha, same here! Rather bizaare...the worst times when watching live racing in America is when the weather is depressing here...you're sitting there shivering with it pouring down with rain outside, and you're watching a race from America, and its beautiful sunshine and midday there...:ouch:

Fantastic! I'll be able to watch it on my home PC with a half-decent connection! Any ideas how long the coverage will stay up on the website for?

I'm watching the stream back now, catching the bits I missed (First 20 minutes and everything after the 3 hours 30 minutes mark) :D

Same! I've been walking around all day like I'm not in my own body, it feels odd.

I feel as if I'm drunk at the moment, so I probably should go to bed. Oh well, at least I have my Lizard T-shirts ordered. Wish I would've had mates who are into motorsports, but unfortunately none of them are. Otherwise I would be going straight to France in 3 weeks!

Agreed. When was the last time, if ever, that a GT1/GT2 car won an ALMS race outright?
2001 Rolex 24 at Daytona with the #4 'Vette, methinks...

Really? Was the Rolex 24 part of the ALMS once? Fantastic...I wish sportscar racing was still like it was arranged in the 80s/early 90s, with Group C, and the championship consisted of ALL major enduros around the world...Sebring, Daytona, Le Mans, Road America, Nurburgring, Silverstone 1000km, Fuji 1000km, Laguna Seca...ALL sportscar races were linked together into one championship battle for supremecy. Imagine that for a series...

During the commentary it was said that there will be another team up with ALMS and streaming for the Mid-Ohio race.

That's what I heard when I asked if we would be seeing anymore ALMS races for free. We did register on the official ALMS site so I hope they do bring some more.

I remember seeing that race, but I was unsure if the Rolex 24 was raced under the ALMS banner at the time. I remember it was part of what was called the Grand Slam of Endurance along with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta and what was known then as the Monterey Sports Care Championship at Laguna Seca.

Something to ask the Midweek Motorsport experts, methinks?💡

I saw most of the race... if you consider following Twitter updates as following a race. I think when I tried to watch what I thought was the race on CBS, it was mostly PGA Tour action and a bunch of Paid Programming crap. So in other words, I missed EVERYTHING! Saw not one piece of action. Congratulations to all the racers and best of luck to all who will be competing at Le Mans next month!

John! So you do still follow the ALMS series! I was wondering why we hadn't seen a preview on the race by John as I recall you did a lot of that stuff before. Hoping to have you amongst us GTP'ers at the Le Mans thread soon! 👍

It is actually on CBS this Saturday as a delayed and heavily edited review more than anything.

Check tvracer.com for all television schedules of races.

A documentary, probably much like "Truth in 24"

In the past they have gone as far as to pretend they are showing the race and then they jump like an hour during commercial breaks and continue on as if any position changes happened during the break.

I know. I watched their "race coverage". You would think that they could get a nice review after a 1 day delay, but instead they "show" the whole race as a hack job.

Okay. Thanks, FoolKiller. I'll be sure to check that out if I'm home this weekend. It's going to be a bit lonely without the ALMS as the 24 Hours of Le Mans will come around and with many teams going to Le Mans.

I guess to pass the time, I meant to get the latest edition of Road and Track Magazine, which had a little segment about the LMPC Class. I still think it's great for this series to have a car like this. I know there's the Formula Le Mans cars in Europe. I hope the LMPC class can add further diversity and yield more entries into the ALMS. I complain a little bit that the mufflers look a bit cheap on the LMPC cars. Still, it's a great compliment along with the GT Challenge cars. I guess anything you can do to help boost car counts and get more racers on track is a great thing. Trouble is, I wonder if some people would be disappointed that there aren't as many real teams rather than these rookie-spec racing classes.

I'm not like that, but there are those who'd ponder that element of the ALMS. Another message board I used to be on a lot for sportscar racing usually commonly wonders about car counts and fans in the stands to see a race. This is still a great deal for the ALMS to have GT Challenge and the LMPC cars.

Hmm, for the benefit of the fans, I'd agree that taking away diversity in machines is taking away a large element of competition. I'm of the opinion that motorsport is very much a teamsport, not at all about individuals. Taking away the freedom to use a different car, different engines, etc, is taking away some of the interest in the battles and also I would contest that it hampers the on track-battles.
If everyone has the same car and everyone is of similar skill, then its going to take that bit more to create overtaking battles. The classic battles of the past have been between different chassis, drivetrains, engines, tyres..never usually the same.

On the other hand, from a drivers point of view, the more options in motorsport, the better. Also making it cheaper with spec chassis is entirely necessary at the moment. The sport overall (not just ALMS) is badly structured compared to other sports as it relies a lot on competitors bringing the cash.

Personally, I'd hate to see non-spec racing disappear and I only view spec racing as a temporary stop-gap till someone works out a better solution for making motor racing more economically sensible and still competitive with a focus remaining on teamwork.
(this is not to say spec series don't feature team work, I just feel taking away one of the team work variables doesn't help racing.)

Some onboard footage for you. ;)

Here's onboard footage of Simon Pagenaud working his way from the back of the field to 4th in LMP in the opening 4 laps of the race. (taken from inside the headlight in the nose of his car)

BTW, you notice a little something on the rumble strips on the inside of Turn 5?:sly:

And the last 10 minutes or so of the race in the GT class had me thinking of the song "Dogfight" by m.o.v.e. :D

Fantastic work digging this one up! Great job :) Im the same as Mikey, I looked closely, but couldn't see anything, except for a little billboard on the inside of the turns that looked like it had the GTPlanet logo on it at first glance :dunce:

I didn't notice anything on the rumble strip at 5, what did I miss?

The Mazda logo in white on the blue sections of the rumble strip.;)

Very sharp eye, but I was not looking for that at all. I thought there might have been a topless chick on the inside of 5 or something.

Ahhh, very sharp eyes! Well spotted :)

Though it'll always be Laguna Seca to me, none of this Mazda Raceway waffle :)
