Just replayed the AMG academy, I hadn't played that part of the game in twelve months, I was amazed at how much my driving on the ring had improved I was beating my old times by 35-40 seconds

Give it a go if you haven't already.

For me, after 24hrs on the track, (with 5hrs in the wet) I got really good!

I'm not beating my old times at all, I did the first part silver and didn't care anymore about it (and that was 3 weeks ago)

I did the same about a week ago with DFGT wheel (DS3 first time) and found I was much better than first time round - similar improvements, much more confidence in both cars than with the stick. Both cars are beautiful to drive with a wheel. I did have a go with the stick and improved a lot with that too though.

I'm definitely getting better times now, just not enough to gold all the challenegs yet (I did achieve all Silvers when I first did them way back when)

I had a similar experience to the OP after doing the 4 hour endurance, where I was faster but I still haven't got gold on any of them!

I am going to try again on the beginner one in order to get the Winter Arweihler photo location though.

Maybe you should wait / work at it a bit longer? Improvements don't come overnight. :p

I reckon I'll be slower, I used to be a monster on the 'Ring online, but now I'm a bit out of practice. The AMG events are probably a good place to start getting good again, actually.

Ditto, think my more recent laps on Sports Tires was a big help...
It took a long time , but I no longer see the point of Racing Softs on anything. Sports for supercars and racing hard for race cars seems to be a great Driving experience.

I've recently been doing this. I had started another PSN a long time ago for copying some matte paints for myself and I was reading a post on here complaining about more a spec races and so on and I got to thinking that I had the game almost completed when I got my g27.

So I started playing the game from the start on the other PSN. I've been going for all gold. I haven't even touched an a or b spec race. I have just been going though all the special events and placing Gold in them. Has been a lot of fun. I've leveled it up to mid level 20 or 21 now. have over 6 million credits, I've been keeping all the car tickets I win for trading and I've been buying the rare cars as they pop up in my UCD.

I placed gold in all the AMG driving academy events in dry weather in the gullwing merc and the SLS. I still have to do the wet events, the grand tour and the vettel challenge hasn't popped up yet but not sure if I want to challenge with my wheel because I've heard the x1 likes to eat g27's for lunch.

Will eventually start a spec when I finish the specials, license test, and seasonal events. NO b spec in this one. I like to drive!

When I've driven the RedBull with a wheel I set the force feedback in wheel options to somewhere near minimum. It works better and certainly puts less strain on the wheel.

I also gave them another go recently and improved my times with ease. I may try to improve them again in near future even though the catch of a gold medal is gone.

These are my current challenge in GT5. I've golded nine of the ten dry ones (haven't managed to get that full lap in the SLS yet). In the wet, I've got the first gold, and nine bronzes, right now.

I also recently returned to the AMG challenge, it was probably tens months ago or more by now since my last attempt and in the interim I had run countless online races at the nurb, where i was consistently placing highly and getting many wins
So thinking I had the track kinda imprinted it was time to try again, i had already taken all the challenges to silver with a scattering of golds but i knew as I got settled in with my wheel a few more golds would fall today, what happened next surprised me a lot. As every challenge fell on the very first attempt no restarts nothing just start challenge Achieve the gold move on and repeat, it was a god day lol

Heh. This happened to me a few weeks or so ago.

Got gold no problem once id re-adjusted to the Ring.
Also worked the same for any of the Special Events, left the Vettel Challenge for 3 months, ended up being 12 seconds faster around the Nurburgring GP :sly:

I had all silvers for over a year, went back last month and golded every single one, some by getting 3-4 secs inside gold time which I thought was impossible!!!
Massive improvement!

Still can't Gold the Lamborghini at Toscana event though:scared::ouch:

I went back to the dry SLS event and golded all of the silvers I had except the full lap. Just can't seem to get a clean lap and am sitting at 7:07:7xx (gold 7:05). Excellent fun though. It's kind of weird though, I've golded the wet events already, but I've still got all silver from the dry gullwing event which is the novice one :D

The wet events are considerably easier, given they were designed around the massively inhibiting TCS. TCS has since been improved, by how much I have no idea, but it's still easier (quicker) to do it without.

I think the hardest for me were the dry SL ones, largely because the tyres are difficult to make the most of.

The point of the tests is to work on your consistency, so you do the individual sections until you can reliably (i.e. without too much effort / luck) put in gold times, then concentrate on linking them together and keeping it together for the duration.

Just keep repeating one of the sections and see if you can extract a second from it. Or maybe a third of a second from each. That's about the difference between nailing a high-speed turn and not quite getting it right, so concentrate on those.

I.e. Schwedenkreuz (actually, the entirety of the first section), Fuchsröhre, Klostertal, Tiergarten, etc. - also, Karussel to Schwalbenschwanz is another area that time can be lost, at different points from lap to lap. Get it right consistently and you could easily find a second overall. 👍

In fact, the track is so comparatively vast, and thus so hard to learn, that a tenth of a second on ten corners is almost guaranteed to be "available", but that's harder to keep track of and evaluate.
