When it comes to having F1 in GT, we'd gladly have anything over nothing right? I mean we aren't THAT bad to the extent that we wouldn't except nothing short of a full 2011 grid are we?

There is a potential way that Polyphony could legitimately have more than one F1 car, potentially more than a grids worth in the game : a BOSS GP license.

For those of you who don't know, BOSS GP (Big Open Single Seaters) is a championship run Klaas Zwart, owner of Ascari Cars, which allows owners of pre-2004 F1 cars and recent IRL, GP2, ChampCar and F3000 cars to compete on a level playing field, like a more modern Thoroughbred Grand Prix series. Now Polyphony could stick to the pre-2004 rule or they could exploit it to include more newer cars as that would not constitute an illegal F1 race, it would constitute a BOSS GP race.

What do you guys think?

More info for those of you how may not have heard of BOSS GP: http://www.bossgp.com/

Any single seater series would get my money as DLC, I'd quite like Formula Nippon (not my favourite series but most likely) if it came with a lot of liveries. IndyCar could be a buyable licence too since they seem to be desperate for publicity and have quick cars.

Why would you want f1 cars in gt5 when you have dedicated f1 games out there?

Would the contract allow unliveried current F1 cars to be added to GT5? It'd be cool to buy a McLaren or RB7, put my own livery on it (or paint one of a selection provided) and race against others.

Just saw something about BOSS GP in TV, around an hour ago. It's pretty neat, but I doubt we will get it, or new F1 cars for GT5, never mind the age. Would love it though.

Its not F1 but its close, The Lotus T125 could get in with none of Bernie's dictatorship getting annoyed since its not a F1 car

i dont think we get any new or old things from f1 or any formula class so clearly NO

You're wrong, BOSS GP license would fully and legitimately allow Polyphony to include pre-2004 F1 cars, aslong as the manufacturers/owners agreed.

People are saying "if you want F1 cars go buy an F1 game", some fans of the GT series don't want to go buy a dedicated sim because they want the F1 cars to be on GT's engine/physics model.

Nope it would not as that would constitute towards an F1 race either way, there is a certain cut-off period (which I believe is 2-4 years) where you would not require approval of FOM to include those cars in a game, that cut-off time may actually be the 'pre-2004' part of the BOSS GP series' rules.

Also it's worth noting that the reason you're only allowed to race the Ferrari F1 cars against each other is because that's under the basis of Ferrari's Corse Clienti allowing Ferrari F1 car owners to meet up and race for fun.

The top driver in that series is driving a 2004 Jaguar F1 car, it doesnt take a lot to realise why he is the top driver either... Because he is in a 2004 Formula 1 car and the others are in older F1 cars, indycars, champcars and F3000 cars. Hardly a level playing field.

Are the cars modified to restrict them in anyway? because i notice older F1 cars close behind in 2nd and 3rd.

Rich old guys enjoying the cars they're bought in some light hearted competition wouldn't exactly care about a level playing field...they're likely just there to enjoy what they've spent their hard earned on.

The single easiest way to have F1 is to create "fake" F1 cars, like in GT3.

But everyone would then whine about them not being real. :dunce:

I'd like to see the return of GT3's F1 cars though (preferably as premiums or higher-quality standards), would bring back some memories and let people experience a few cars unique to that game.

If PD doesn't do that (which they probably won't :indiff:), then they could always go for the Caprio, Lotus, etc.

Now I want to go play GT3...:dopey:

Read the first post again, then come back to me.

European GT3 only had 1 F1 car, in a variety of different colours, the Formula GT. Same car that is also in GT5, available to race where ever you please.

I thought GT3 had 2 single seaters. One to represent the old GP turbo cars, and one for the normally asparated newer cars?!

I think Bigbazz is confusing GT3 and GT4.

Perhaps on the name sake, i think they were called the Polyphony 001/002 in GT3. So 2 cars aye. But, the JPN version had many different F1 car models, and indycar.

According to this there were 6 in GT3.

That's besides the point, if Polyphony get the BOSS GP license then that would not only include cars currently competing in the series but also other car that may also be legible to compete. << EPIC loophole for Polyphony just sitting there waiting for them.

They should team up with Red Bull and make a car which looks eerily similar, and has similar specs to the RB7, and call it the F2010 💡:dopey:

That seems like an epic idea. Get rid of the KERS and DRS (which probably wouldn't work in GT5 anyway) to lose a few dozen kilos, remove the various logos, change the size and shape of the wings ever so slightly - basically do to the RB7 what Rockstar did to the Corvettes, Vipers, Hummers and other cars in the GTA games.

Plus, they have precedent - it's what they did to get F1 cars in GT3 (except the PAL version)

They'd probably have to make it a standard car instead of a premium so as to keep their modeling of the steering wheel to a minimum, though :indiff:

That would still constitute towards being an F1 car and theres no way that Redbull would waste time on that, the X1 was an exception. Let's be honest, 2004 was the fastest season in F1 history and F1 cars have got progressively uglier since, wouldn't you rather have cars from 1985-2004 instead of the current castrated generation of snowplows?

The 2010 cars beat the 2004 cars on a few tracks, in qualifying the 2011 cars are even faster.

Example

2004 Australian GP : Qualifying 1:24.408 : Michael Schumacher
2010 Australian GP : Qualifying 1:23.919 : Sebastian Vettel
2011 Australian GP : Qualifying 1:23.529 : Sebastian Vettel

Slick tyres, more efficient downforce, and in 2011 Kers and DRS make the new cars the fastest in qualifying on many tracks. In the race the current cars are slower due to the refueling ban.

This is true, but thats only due to them having to carry race fuel loads in qualifying, if you take away the fuel loads and run a qualifying level of fuel then they're probably a few tenths quicker, a lot of the lap records that still stand today were actually set during races in that season and remember, because of KERS and DRS, theres actually something in the region of 0.5-0.8 in artificial pace.

I say they just release a premium FGT2011 with changeable numbers and allow paint schemes similar to the old FGT.

Kers and DRS aren't really artificial pace, you could say that the slick tyres are artificial pace, or that the much more powerful engines of 2004 are artificial in the same way. If you gave the 2004 cars DRS and Kers or slick tyres, they would be faster, but then if you gave the 2011 cars engines with an extra 200bhp they would be faster. Also don't forget that the fuel onboard the 2004 cars only had to last until the first pitstop, so its not comparable to the full fuel loads the cars hold today, the fastest lap in the Race of australia 2004 was 1:24.1 if i remember right.
I think it's only fair to compare with regulations intact.
