Thanks to everyone else who has helped, but I can't think of a good alternative to the "Cheers" part at the end.

"See you around", "see you", "bye", "hope to meet you soon" anything but "untill further notice" really. :D

The perfected letter:

Dear Erin,

My name is Brett and I have been trying to contact you through your msn profile for a little while, but you haven’t been online when I looked.
I ended up with your address by checking whether you were related to a friend of mine in the phonebook, and you are the only person in Glenorchy with Delaney as your surname, so if you are reading this now, it worked out fine.
After reading your profile, I thought that you seemed like a nice girl and that we had a couple of things in common, so I wrote you this letter, just to ask if you would like to chat sometime on the internet or something.
To do this I would like your hotmail/msn e-mail address. Please don’t be embarrassed too much to give me a call, it was embarrassing enough just to write you this letter!

My phone number is 62731927 or you can write a letter to the address on the back of the envelope.

I have also sent a couple of e-mails to you through your profile; I guess that you just haven’t been using the internet lately.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Brett Mansfield

I am going to drop it in her letter box tomorrow afternoon, so please reply quick if there is anything drastically wrong with it :)
I am also going to write it by hand, to keep the nerdiness away.

Thanks.

Brett,

Gets better and better.

Just got Bird to scan the letter and she reckons that you ought to ditch the phone number bit and the "i've been monitoring your internet activity" bit as it's a bit.... er.... well you know?

Good luck mate!

Must say i'm impressed with you, you're a pretty tough kid, you've taken some knocks and come back well.

Nice one!

I only had that from what I have noticed, she isn't on the interenet lately. I thought that was the main reason I was writing the letter?

What part of the phone number bit?
I only tried to add some humor....

Thanks a real lot.
Brett.

Hi Erin,

My name is Brett and I have been trying to contact you through your msn profile for a little while, but you haven’t been online when I looked.
I ended up with your address by checking whether you were related to a friend of mine in the phonebook, how clever am I right? Haha.
After reading your profile, I thought that you seemed like a nice girl and that we had a couple of things in common, so I wrote you this letter, just to ask if you would like to chat sometime or anything.

My phone number is 62731927, maybe we could meet some time, what do you think?

I have also sent a couple of e-mails to you through your profile; I guess that you just haven’t been using the internet lately.
You know, writing this little letter has been pretty embarrassing to me but it's the only way to contact you I guess.

Anyway, hope to see you soon,

Here, this is much more casual.

Sorry, yeah you're right. Contact details are good, I'm just trying to say it's a bit strong, hmm this is very unlike me i can't seem to express myself clearly.

Someone help me out here?

The Internet thing is ok, it shows you're taking an intrest in her but you have to remember this letter is going to be a shock to her, no matter whatever else she is going to be surprised! You need to keep the number of surprises down to an acceptable level.

At the end of the day you have to go with what you feel comfortable with.

Good luck.

perfect, thanks rufrgt_sn00pie2001

You have helped so much.
And to all the other people who helped;
boombexus, giles gurthie. slip2rock, bird2rock probably a couple I have missed, thanks a lot.
I'll let you all know how it turns out ;)

Letterbox, or else she'll think you're a moron who sends post to people whom live down the street.
