what do you use? i personally use a the analog stick as it has a more fluid feel. The d pad does not seem as responsive.

Analog is just too damn small for me.....it feels all "Twitchy"
I use d-pad or a special controller i have with a mini-steering wheel on it and a pair of analog A/B Buttons.....

Cheers
J

I use the stick. Usually if I want a straigt line I use the Dpad by quickly pressing the button to make a small correction. But most often I use the stick for the straights...

I second kazjim about the analog stick. Not only is it twitchy, but it's placed too awkwardly for me to use properly. Plus I've been using a d-pad for games since the late '80s, so I can't adjust to a tiny little joystick very well.

The analog sticks do require a fair amount of adjustment. I had to run many races with GT1 to make the adjustment, myself. I recommend making the effort. It's tricky at first, but as you grow accustomed to the feel you'll find your lap times dropping steadily. I think you'll enjoy the more precise feel as well - I also like that the sticks are easier on my thumbs.

I also use the right stick for gas and brake - the "analog" buttons are a bad joke, as far as I'm concerned.

analog for gas, D-Pad for steering.
when i use the stick to steer, i always end up turning slugishly, like i'm in a stock '93 Mustang V6 ( :yuck: ). then, sometimes, i don't push the gas stick straight ahead, and end up loosing some of my power. if the thing was a little more flexible with your exact latitude, i'd use them for both.

I think it's just that people are so used to the buttons being simple on/off switches that they can't get used to applying varying pressure to them... granted I don't have the hairline control that a stick user would, but I can still get about 25% or 50% or 75% throttle and braking from the buttons when I need to. Of course I didn't have a Dual Shock until GT2 came out thus my entire driving style is built around those buttons, so obviously Your Mileage May Vary (tm). :D

I could never use a stick for throttle/brake, simply because you can only be on one or the other at any given time. On a couple of tracks I'm a notorious "left-foot braker", so I need to be able to have separate controls for both of them.

Yeah, "left-foot braking" is an advantage. I can use the buttons as analog, but not as well as the stick. Plus I'm never sure if I have 100% throttle so I tend to mash the hell out of the button. :D

I have mashed the hell out of my controller (thanks to a game that rhymes with GRUNTMAN). Had to but a new one.

I like the feel of the buttons for my accel and brake. Sometimes I need to use a little of both like 75% gas and 25% braking (not always exact)...

w00t?! I just realized if You don't go on this site for a while, they change your status, I was a Junior Member awhile ago, now I'm back to New Member?? :banghead:

all about the d-pad!! didn't have a dual shock controller when i first played gt1, so i stuck with it and used d-pad throughout the series, now i take advantage of the beautiful presure sensitivity....it works great!
