"You should not do ever do this, fast times come from clean accelerating and hard braking, never using both at once." (emphasis added)

To me that sounds like you're saying to never use brake and gas simultaneously, as you will be less fast when compared to using them separately. I don't see any other way to interpret the words.

Being a sim-ish type of game, countless threads that focus on tuning or driving techniques (such as your statement above) reference real life techniques. There are two or three other people in this very thread making mention of techniques (used in-game and in real life) that require two simultaneous inputs.

Anyway, I have no desire to continue this. Sorry if I misinterpreted your original post, but as I said, whenever one says "never" or "always"...

I'm with you on that I have no desire to argue any further about such a mundane topic. 👍

In the future I'll be more careful of when I use the word never, I might even give ''almost never'' a whirl. :) :) :)

I use X for gas, [] for brake.
Since I have recently started driving <insert name of Group C car>, I have had many opportunities to enjoy the level of detail PD has put into modeling the <wall/barrier/tree>.
I don't see any need for criticizing anyone's preferred button map - just giving you a heads up that driving some of the cooler-looking multimillion dollar cars in the game is difficult with on/off throttle control.
I would highly recommend learning the analog stick (or L2/R2 if you prefer), throttle and brake control are essential to making the high power, low weight cars less 'spinnier'.

The problem with using the small buttons (x,o) is that they don't provide any progression. They are to on or off. The only things that provide roll-on throttle or brake is the sticks or L buttons.

For those of you that use R2/L2 for gas/brake and drive manual, what do you use for upshift and downshift?

O for up, Square for Down. Triangle is look behind, X handbrake and right stick is free look.
I set it up to be the same as Forza 3 basically.

I prefer using the right analogue stick for gears as it makes for quite a nice sequential shifter :)
left stick for steering (obviously) and left/right on d-pad to look around.

Works well for me, but if you set the right stick for looking around, does it give you the ability to look freely? Using the d-pad makes you look at 45 degrees either way, but would the right stick allow you to freely swivel your in-car view? Because that would be awesome.

The right stick lets you look around a lot more than just the d-pad does.

I played GT1,2, and 3 quite a bit and have gotten back into GT with 5. I have always used x/[] mostly because it was what i was used to and never tho0ught about using other stuff but after this i may try using the R2/L2 setup or at least for acc. would prob help a lot for trying to get the x2010 lol.
