It's starting to set in. I can't believe I leave for college in a week. I thought I had more time, but seeing as how this last week flew by, I will be packing up my stuff and heading down to Champaign, Illinois to attend the University of Illinois in no time. I'm excited, but at the same time I am scared. It's my first taste of living on my own. I'm rooming with a buddy, but it's not the same.

Anybody have any words of advice to give me? Any fun college stories to share?

I wish you the best of luck and a congratulations man. Sorry i can't give you advice, i'm still in high school myself. See you around.

👍

You're going to have a great time, Event. It's always exciting and nervous at the same time. When I left for school I didn't know anyone at my new school, you're lucky to have a friend.

It's going to be a lot of work, especially in engineering, and a lot of fun. You'll meet lifelong friends (and never again will there be so many eligible women your age around ;))

Remember you're there for a good time, not a long time.

All the best.

Good luck. Will you still be comming on GTP?

Fo' sho', though I'm probably gonna stop going into the convo forum. I haven't posted in there this month yet! I'll still have internet access at U of I! :D T1. 👍 Too bad I'm limited to 750MB/day of bandwidth... :indiff:

Thanks for that advice. I'm looking forward to the eligible women. :D:tup:

Some of my latter classes should be fun. Second semester sophomore year I get to take Quantom Physics! :D That will be a blast. Although the amount of technical classes I will have to take is mind boggling! :boggled: I only have to take 1 english class all four years. 👍

My favorite class this semester will probably be Physics - Mechanics. I love physics, and it comes pretty naturally to me. When I'm doing physics, my mind kind of sees the vectors clearly in 3D. It's pretty easy.

I wish I could afford to attend an university. Don't squander your opportunity to go.

I don't plan on it. My grandma is paying for almost half of it, and the rest is being paid for by student loans and a $4,500 grant... I was really realy close to not being able to afford to go...

i had a university taster week a while back and it was awsome, didnt want to come home. im sure you will do fine good luck!

A university situated in a place cold champain :)
Next year i'm going to college by bus.
It's a 1 hour drive, but much cheaper then living alone.

He will be an hour from my house. He should make a road trip up here. :-p

No drinking except on Friday or Saturday nights! Not even both!

Study first, women second, hanging out third, drinking fourth.

Good luck!

Congrats dude! You're gonna have the time of your life, although doing engineering you won't have much time to have it in,. Classes are gonna be a good bit harder than you expect they will, atleast thats how it went for me.

Have fun man!

I'm also going to be starting University up in Ottawa, except in 3 weeks.

But, I just got back from a one week summer school for Engineering students they just had there, and let me say, I've had a taste of living on my own, and it kicks ass. The feeling of not having your mom/dad nagging you whenever you're in the house is amazing. You're able to do what you want, when you want (depending on money, of course).

Also, what's your frosh week going to be like? Mine centers around something called 'messy day'. Encouraging title... but at the end of the week, there's a dance where Engineering students get paired up with nursing students. 👍

EDIT: Also, you're lucky to have 750mb/day of bandwidth. At Queen's University (in Kingston, Ontario), they only get 1gb per month. I'm not sure what the limit is at U Ottawa.

That's annoyingly sensible.

I don't have a car, 100 miles is a little much... Plus, I don't think any buddies would want to come road trip to visit a kid 5 years younger than me that I know from a Gran Turismo website.

Yeah I know the technical classes are gonna be a *****. But I guess ~$50,000 per year salary right out of college will be worth it. 👍

Our first week consists of assemblies, quad day, a movie, and partying. 👍

 no offence standard, but thats pretty funny. 👍

Congrats Event horzion :p Make the most of it.

Don't worry if suddenly your career choice changes.

Have a good time but believe me, too many people take it too far and end up getting a ride to the hospitol or a visit from the police.

You guys have restricted bandwidth? I'm glad I don't (yet).

Don't worry, I'm not too big of a partyer. School will always come first, or tied for first. :p

If we go over 750MB per day, then we get bummed down from T1 speeds to 56K speeds... :indiff:

I believe you. That picture was taken after just smelling the beer, wasn't it?

And listen to Duke. I hated it when people would come to class drunk on a Tuesday. Go to learn, and have fun when you can. You'll be fine.

Congrats!

Yeah, that's it... That Old Style on the desk by where my chin is in that pic is full. Beer is for losers!

Good luck man! I'm about to beginning High School next year, so I defintly can't give you advice. My brother is starting collage this year too.
