So lately I've watched the anime berserk. I really liked it. Any suggestions for anime that has some great story, action and mystery to it?
Apart from dbz or dbs or one punch man or Death Note or naruto or bleach or one piece

Mystery and story, watch detective conan.

Story and action I'd say you'll be here all day cause there are plenty of those. I'll list newer ones then older since I have no idea what you have or haven't seen.

Aldnoah Zero, Seven Deadly Sin, One Piece (without the filler, but with the movies), certain seasons of Sword Art Online, Gundam Blood and Iron.

Older stuff, Samurai Champloon, Afro Samurai, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Gundam 0083 Stardust memory, Gundam 0080, Endless Waltz/ Gundam Wing. Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, and that's about all I can think of off the top of my head. I know I have others but I would actually have to look back to remember it all

Oh Yu Yu Hakasho has plenty of moments, kind of fizzles out at the end. I enjoyed it though.

Thanks a lot for that list. There's something so unexplainable about berserk that made me enjoy it. Might have been the beautiful soundtrack or the characters in it.... I don't know. I was just looking for something with a story that's unforgettable along with good action.

Check out those, some of them will be more enjoyable than others, but there are plenty in that list that do the same thing I think.

yes

Aldnoah Zero

Seven Deadly Sin

@ionstriker Durarara!! and its sequels might not make for compulsive viewing (as enjoyable as it can be a times, I found it was a bit of a chore to get all the way through) but they have a good mix of mystery and action with the former easily outweighing the latter.

Shinsekai yori is also heavy on mystery and unsettling to the point where Dvorak's 2nd Movement of New World Symphony will make for agitated listening afterwards. Not entirely devoid of action either but the story itself is well worth checking out.

Something, something, Fullmetal Alchemist.

....Aldnoah Zero? NOOOOOOO. I love mecha, but boy, that anime had some...uh, issues. I still can't believe it got a second season.

@ionstriker You saw Berserk? Which one? The current one with the weird CGI animations?

@Wiegert Seven Deadly Sins?

....Really? :irked:

That reminds me, when are we getting the Black Clover anime? I mean, that thing's the New It Thing... Or for that matter, The Rise of the Shield Hero?

Instead, we get Taboo Tattoo.... :boggled:

I mean the first season wasn't so bad, the second season had me scratching my head. Ergo Proxy was another good one, and it has a bit of the sennin craziness Beserk does, but not full on I'd say.

@Weigert subliminally wants you to try out Jo Jo's Bizarre :sly:

@JKgo, what's wrong with SDS, the show doesn't deviate from the Manga, which is great. Great way of telling the story of King Arthur in a very different yet engaging way.

...Weird, you tagged me but I didn't get an alert. A bug in the system? :boggled:

As for SDS, I did initially enjoyed its early episodes. Then by the middle of the season, the pacing was thrown out the window, and as if to compensate for that the final episodes were totally rushed. It's also as generic Shonen fair squarely aimed at 11-12 year old boys as it can possibly be - it's almost as blatant as Fairy Tail in that regard.

Sure, that doesn't mean it's bad per se, just that it's waaaay too overhyped for what it is. Also.... I swear the author is a Shotacon or something. Just a gut feeling. ;)

Oh yeah, and the pig. That damn annoying pig. Urgh. Blergh.

Edit: I keep on forgetting this is a thread for suggesting an anime. Dang it.

It hasn't been long since I've started watching anime, but I binge-watch pretty much whatever, so....

Right, if the OP hasn't seen the original 90s Berserk anime, I recommend seeing that first before delving too deeply into the current run. A word of warning: defo NSFW.

Kabaneri of Iron Fortress is also quite eye-catching, with its steampunk aesthetics and a few pretty intense moments. Some compare it to Attack on Titan, and there are similarities here and there but Kabaneri has legs to stand on its own.

Also, how about Toriko? I know it's about food ostensibly, but it does have its fair share of ridiculous action set pieces. And it's not as highly time-consuming to catch up on the episodes as the other stalwarts of the anime like Naruto, One Piece or Bleach.

Oh and, if you haven't seen it, try hunting down the original Dragonball as well - when Goku was still a little brat. It's actually superior to DBZ - much more so than Super or {shudder} GT.

Hajime no Ippo is another oldie but goodie. Inuyasha is also very good, but gets a bit repetitive towards the end.

The Blue Exorcist and Noragami is worth a look if you're into supernatural/youkai stuff. My personal fav is Kekkaishi - it's probably one of the best balanced anime I've seen yet.

For comedy that mixes a bit of action, have a look at Kenichi The History's Strongest Disciple. It's supposedly a martial art actioner but it's not all that serious. Beelzebub is also fun but loses steam towards the end a little.

Avoid Devil May Cry anime with all your might. It's cancer.

Eh. Unlikeable apathetic protag and their superhuman ability to utilise perfect battle tactics aside (and hilariously even more dubious in S2), the action and visuals can be pretty spectacular.

Wouldn't recommend to anyone other than hardcore mecha fans though. Also wouldn't recommend S2 to my worst enemy.

Worth it for Battle Tendency alone.

As for SDS, I did initially enjoyed its early episodes. Then by the middle of the season, the pacing was thrown out the window, and as if to compensate for that the final episodes were totally rushed.

Episode 14 marked a point of noticeable decline in script quality but I feel they pulled things back for the last few episodes, even when things got a little too edgy for my tastes.

I recently re-watched it for the sake of the English dub and I'd dare it's better than the original with subs. If you can get over Meliodas' knack for casual perversion or the occasional lack of originality, it's a well-balanced shounen fantasy that does a good job of condensing some of the better aspects of certain popular, long-running series'.

Oh yeah, and the pig. That damn annoying pig. Urgh. Blergh.

They honestly became my favourite character in the dub.

I have the same issue with tags, and even watch threads, so probably. I would never compare it to FT, and there is some subtle notions regarding Mel and Liz that make it pretty inappropriate for younger audiences. Most Shonen these days walk a fine line between shonen and sennin to me.

I would never recommend Toriko anime, when the Manga is ten times better, and the two are completely different. The people rushed the anime out of existence worse then they currently are rushing the manga.

Inuyasha is like the teenage emo drama of all anime, once again I'd take the manga over that as well Everything else suggested here is pretty cool.

Also if you're really wanting to get deep into things, you could try GetBackers and Basilisk.

@Wiegert , I'd say ease him in with Kenshiro/Fist of the Northstar and then forward. But yeah JJB has some cool fights for sure.

Thanks guys for some of these suggestions. Will definitely have a look. And about berserk I was talking about the old anime. I have watched the new one as well. And I just finished with samurai champloo and really liked It.
I was just looking for something with some badass action pieces, good humour and good story.

I'd take Hunter x Hunter for a spin, though there are 2 versions that have different approaches so choose which one.

1999 - More slower and focus more on the characters and concepts (though if you plan to watch all the way through you will have to watch the 2011 version for the last 2 Arcs since the 1999 adaptation didn't have those)

2011 - More fast paced and focus on Action and explaining the world.

-Shigurui: Good amount of darkness. It may seem slow at first, but the build up is worthwhile.

-Baka to Test: A good fun little anime with a adequate story.

-Code Geass: A good all-arounder.

Watch Armored Trooper Votoms ( mechs, mysterious protagonist that "refuse" to die, lover and friends in battle, and lots of action ) and all the related movies ( prequel and sequels ) and short series, also be sure to watch Armor Hunter Mellowlink in same universe/time line ( revenge theme, but very nicely made )

I see there hasn't been a single mention of Psycho Pass.

You can call it done after season 1. Season 2 isn't that good. The movie is okay.

Daughter of Twenty Faces, Code Geass, Kill la Kill, Trigun, Monster, Noein, Puni Puni Poemy.

Older stuff, Samurai Champloo, Afro Samurai, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Gundam 0083 Stardust memory, Gundam 0080, Endless Waltz/ Gundam Wing. Out of all of that, I still can't believe that 8th MS Team wasn't mentioned.

As far as my recommendations, the only two that I would add is the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Tenchi Muyo.

8th MS isn't something I'd give to a first time viewer similar to how I wouldn't recommend other favorites of mine like G Gundam as well. I'd say watch the more pivotal seasons, like the first Gundam and even Char's Counterattack and then do 08th since it's like an off story of that era. I'm surprised I forgot those two more so than 08th MS to be honest.

For Gundam, I would rather suggest with MS IGLOO Apocalypse 0079 and Hidden One Year War OVA first, they tell the stories way before the original Gundam 079 series ( Amuro ) from early days of Zeon vs Federation conflict battles on Earth and Space, the Battle of Loum and how Char got his infamous Red Comet name, oh, Gundam 083 Stardust Memory, don't miss that too.
