Pretty much what the title says, are there any animes based on motorsports?
Something similar to Capeta.

Did a quick search and only found IGPX Immortal Grand Prix.

I figured you know and seen Initial D by now.

Pretty much that one is the only one that comes to mind.

Remember seeing a bit of it back on Toonami quite a while back.

That video should give you a good idea of what it's like.

I checked out IGPX, it looked interesting but the automobiles turn into mechas? Looks interesting.

I've seen Initial D and Wangan Midnight a long time ago, but I am lurking around for more animes based on F1, WRC, Super GT, DTM, or any other motorsports.
But I've not got any luck so far.

BTW if any of you guys are into kart racing, F3 or F1 (but doesn't go all the way to F1 unfortunately) but pretty much almost any open wheeler racing, check out Capeta. So far it got me hooked on racing more then Initial D or Wangan Midnight.

Most likely because they don't exist. I'd kill for a WRC drama.

There aren't many anime, but there are a few manga out there. One that I recall is Kanojo no Carera, which is about a girl who inherits a 911 RS, and which involves a lot of canyon running and stuff. The downside (upside for some people, lol!) is that it has quite a bit of fanservice/ecchi content in it, nothing too bad as I recall, but quite a few bare boobs and stuff.

-> Manga wise, I highly recommend Over Rev:

^ It has everything that InD and WM has. But what these two don't have are, a real slice of life take on street racing, some gags here and there, and some sexual content. :sly:

-> Overall, its a very good manga! It definitely deserves an anime series! 👍

Super Grand Prix, pretty old, but a lot of real cars and driving techniques there. The japanese version series is hard to find, there's a dubbed US movie with source edited from the series. Good stuff.

"Super Grand Prix (2003 US , 1977-78 Japanese)

The show's Japanese name "Grand Prix no taka" translates as "Hawk of Grand Prix", a theme that often reccurs in the opening animation. The main character's name was probably chosen to suit this theme as well. The Show Lasted 44 Episodes airing at 25 Minutes each. The Full Title for the Show was Arrow Emblem Hawk of the Grand Prix (アローエンブレム・グランプリの鷹)

In the US the 44 episode series was significantly shortened to form a 90 minute movie for children called "Super Grand Prix" released by Liberty International on August 12, 2003. The story is essentially the same, except Takaya is now known as "Sean Corrigan" and nicknamed "Crash Corrigan" for the crash.

The Liberty International Version has a very Poor dub considering it was made in 2003. The Character of Shades is an absolute joy as he sounds like an Elvis Impersonator and every line he has makes me laugh.

Trivia

* The Original Japanese show was aired every week on Thursday at 7:00pm to 7:30pm.

* The character Nick Lauda is evidently based on the real Austrian world champion F1 driver Niki Lauda. While Nick Lauda is only referred to as "Masked Man" (due to the mask he wears) in the English dub 'Super Grand Prix', he does specifically mention Niki Lauda during the flashback sequence in which he is discussing his own past. Although it is apparently only for the purposes of drawing comparisons to himself rather than blatantly suggesting that he is Niki Lauda. Masked Man stating a famous figure also served to help console a frustrated Crash Corrigan in providing an example of a person who never gave up.

* It has been suggested that the design of the 'Todoroki Special' was inspired by the 1976 Tyrrell P34 'six wheeler'."

Watch this and the rest :dopey:

also Redline (2009) an OVA about futuristic racing, great OST and animation :)

And this, one of the best racing anime : Cyber Formula GPX - with a series, numerous OVA's, and the car - Super Asurada - a nice car to have in GT :)

I forgot about Over Rev. I read a bunch of it way back, and had a bunch of the scenes and characters in mind but couldn't remember what they were from.

I recommend you to watch Initial D and Wangan Midnight.

Sorry for the late reply and all but college has been overwhelming already. :ouch:

But anyways, I know I should've put "besides Initial D and Wangan Midnight" in the OP. :dunce:
Thanks for the recommendations though, but I've seen those animes ages ago. Great racing animes nonetheless 👍

I'll definitely check out Super Grand Prix and those mangas. :sly:
Thanks for the recommendations!

ex-Driver isn't based on motorsports, per say, but it's a pretty good car anime featuring a Lotus Europa, Subaru Impreza (which gets destroyed in the first episode), Lancia Stratos, Caterham Super 7, with special appearances by a Mazda RX-7, Toyota Supra, Caterham Super 8 and a Ducati 999. And there IS some racing involved, but it's mainly about a group of kids who drive gas powered cars to stop the normal runaway AI vehicles.

Unfortunately, I doubt that there's any racing anime out there as good as Capeta.

Umm... Capeta????

Edit: dammit Walter, missed the last post in this thread after reading down the page...

but yeah, as for true motorsports feeling, Capeta's the only one I know worth watching. Twice.

LONG-ish POST WARNING -> Heh, heh, I found this weird manga made by Mr. Initial-D himself! Shuichi Shigeno!!
