Any news on a strategy guide?

Even reading through "Twist of the Wrist," (the motorcycle racing 'bible' for all you people who don't know) has helped me understand important aspects in road racing, even though I will likely never ride a motorcycle, and at face-value, it seems to have nothing to do with cars. However, reading that book gave me insight into things that I didn't consider before, such as positive and negative camber of the raod and how it affects your driving.

Useful information about racing cars can come from unespected sources. However, in this case, we, or at least, I, do expect the guide to have at least a decent amount of serious racing technique and teaching, especially as they are applied to this game in specific. Fingers are crossed.

Synopsis
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Gran Turismo (commonly abbreviated to GT or GT1) is a racing simulator designed by Kazunori Yamauchi. Gran Turismo was developed by Polyphony Digital and first published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 1997 for the PlayStation video game console. The game was originally only sold in Japan but the popularity of the game led to an American version and then a European version being sold in other countries. After five years of development time, it was well-received publicly and critically, shipping a total of 10.85 million copies worldwide as of April 30, 2008, and scoring an average of 95% in GameRankings' aggregate. The game has started a series, and to date has spawned over 10 spin-offs and sequels. Gran Turismo is fundamentally based on the racing simulator genre. The player must maneuver an automobile to compete against artificially intelligent drivers on various race tracks. The game uses two different modes: arcade and simulation. In the arcade mode, the player can freely choose the courses and vehicles they wish to use. Winning races unlocks additional cars and courses.

well, guess we've got an answer:

It's like their last guide, but with all the auto manufactures info removed... and all the tuning parts info (what they do and how to use them in conjunction with other tunings) also removed. Oh, and the prize lists and how to unlock the cars (which race unlocks which cars) is also gone.

This book should be only $5 - $7 tops. I think I'll begrudgingly still purchase it though...

I don't know if these strategy guides will help anyone, but reading the right material definitely does.

I have been making my way through the "Going Faster" book and the concepts help a lot. As I am racing, I feel myself remembering and applying the principles. Pretty cool if you ask me.

In this thread: A lot of people missing the point about the strategy guide. Yeah the guide could still be completely useless, we don't know, but if done correctly, it could still be a pretty good resource. And besides as a fan of the series, I just feel the need to have the guide anyways. It might have some cool stuff in it and I just want to collect everything Gran Turismo related. I'm a fanboy, what can I say.

I dont understand how they could have a strategy guide available at launch. It just seems like there's too much to cover in the short amount of time they have to write a guide. Or maybe PD just gives them a cheat sheet (so to speak) to go by as a rough guide.

Anyway It seems like it would be lacking in depth info by coming out so early.

It's a mix of a lot of information handed to the writer and giving them up to date beta builds of the game to play. The guide has likely been worked on for the last 3 months or so maybe longer.

Don't you mean PiggyBack as they did the Gran Turismo 4 guide

I will be getting it if they release one :)
i used to be a moderator on the gt4 section there, and got my name in the credits of the GT4 guide :D

the forum is long since defunct, but i wonder if the final mods list still makes it into their guides?

its a long shot, but has anyone got a recent piggyback guide to check for me?

it'd be uber-cool if they still use the list and i made it into the GT5 guide

I do remember one big thing about the GT4 guide. It had a list of all cars and a box you could check if you had the car. In the book it also had driving tips about different tracks don't remember if they were GT relates or Track related. I'll have to see if my daughter's boyfriend still has it to see what else was in it.

Heck even GT game manuals had a small guide how to be faster around turns, by braking, from from one corner to inside to other corner, and accelerate after exiting the corner. Simple.

Also, I really do not understand why people use strategy guide from day one. We play games for enjoyment, we spend 60 dollars on a game, and for sure the first time I walk though it I want to do it all by myself with my own play style. If its a adventure game on my second walk though I will turn on the Internets and see what kind of items I miss out on collecting, or try even doing it myself.
Because playing on first walk though, or RACE though, why spend 60 bucks + 15 to tell you how to play? Aka why go into a roller coaster while you can enjoy the full ride by yourself.
Hey thats my opinion.
Also I can understand a Strategy Guide if a person wants to collect everything about the game.

Don't think so. It seems like the guide will be released when the game is released. I think Kaz would rather not have the car list, course list, and remaining unannounced features be revealed on release day, not before we see the game.

I've never bought an official game guide before; are they worth it? I don't think $10 is a lot of money to throw down for a good reference guide, plus since it's a book, I can order it off of Amazon US! I think books don't incur customs fees either.

Should I?

I just finished writing a strategy guide for GT5 and I've decided to share it with everyone here. Here it is:

"Come first in every race."

I can never understand why a game like GT needs a guide. I have purchased them for Modern Warfare and Battlefield 2 and they were 'useful' but as to whether they are worth the money or not, only the person buying them can answer that.
