As some of you might know I run my 69 Camaro on road tracks as often as possible. Now we are working on Heathers 67 Mustang.
YOU can also run your cars out to these events. It doesnt even have to be fast or modified. Its just a fun event for everyone and it allows you to get lots of track time. I know there has to be a few members that want to run their real life cars instead of just playing the tracks in GT4 or Forza. Its truly an addictive, exciting experience in real life.
Here are the events coming up so far. There will probably be at least 2-3 more this year.
if we cant get her mustang going for the June event then we are driving our Saturn onto the track. I even take videos and pics of every event.

Here are the events coming up.
1. Friday June 30th 2006 at Grattan Raceway
2. Friday July 28th 2006 at Grattan Raceway

Recent events.
1. Thursday May 11th 2006 at Grattan
2. Friday April 14th 2006 at Gingerman
3. May 24th 2005 Gingerman

What are the minimum requirements to get out on the track?

I assume one needs a helmet? What else, does the car need a rollcage, fire extinguisher, kill switch etc.? Or can 100% standard road car be driven on the track?

Also, what's the deal with insurance? Does standard insurance cover you for a race-track incident? Do you get special insurance or go without?

Obviously I have no chance of making these events, but I think answers to questions like these could make it more appealable to joe-public. If I was anywhere near these locations, I'd jump at the chance to get out there. :)

All you need is a helmet, seatbelts, and be over 18 years old. Thats it.
You will be placed in a class according to your experience and your vehicle. Heather has never raced her car on a track so she will be in the slowest class. Most insurance does not cover you on the track. However in the 9 years they have thrown these events, there has never been an accident. The worst that happens is you go off the track and get your wheels dirty with grass. Its extremely safe.
