Any stores planning a midnight launch?

Just wondering if any retailers are planning on doing a midnight launch of the game. I know EBgames had one for a WoW expansion pack so I am hoping that this creates a big enough stir.

GT4 didnt have a midnight launch but there was 20 random people waiting outside the EBgames for 2 hours for the delivery guy to show up. They even applauded him when he finally turned up lol.

I know that GT is wayyyy better than WoW (otherwise you would all be at WOWplanet or GAYplanet or something) and I think it deserves a midnight launch.

EDIT: was there any midnight launches for GT4?

probably best to wait till we know when its being released to start planning midnight launches

It is obvious that we are still going to have to wait for a launch date. Just wondering if any stores will bother with a midnight launch.

ANOTHER related question would be if anyone picked up there gt4 copies at a midnight launch.

Game doesn't even have a release date. lol

But that is not my real question. I want to know if there will be any midnight launches happening when a date is confirmed.

I dont care what date it is but if I can play it 12 hours sooner then I will.

I went to two of these.

PES2009 was quite a large number..

and GTAIV que was totally mental
I guess I meant that they are not as exclusive and exciting as they once used to be. Going to a games store in town at midnight was unheard of, so such events were pretty special. Now, with 24 hour supermarkets, you can queue up pretty much anywhere and get the game, then do a weekly shop if you want.

They may be no less exciting for the individuals concerned, because as you say, queues can still get pretty big. But, with online pre-orders getting to most people early anyway, there is less and less call for specialist stores to open at midnight.

Wow, how do you expect the stores to have decided yet, whether they will have a midnight launch, when the don't even know the release date, let alone expect someone on here to know whether they will be one or not. You should of waited until a week before launch to ask, people might have known the answer then.

Some Gamestop stores will do a midnight launch "IF" they have enough people that pre-order it.

I cant see the point in waiting in a long queue for a game at midnight or any time of the day. After all you can buy it for the next 4 - 6 years after its released anyway.

One of my mates works for GAME and he said that he can almost guarantee that there will be a mid-night opening, even if i'm the only person to turn up. So i should be the same for most main GAME stores. Alternatively, I have pre-ordered a game from Play.com before and it has turned up the day before the release, so thats another option.

According to my local Game store whether they do a midnight launch depends on the amount of pre-orders.

Im going to order mine online as I always recieve these a day before release.

If enough Pre Orders get put down for GT5's Signiture Edition we may decide to do a Midnight Launch at Gamestation but it's unknown at the moment. Will keep you all posted!

I once asked about this at a GameStop and the answer I got was, "possibly". Apparently, MS's Kinect comes out around the same time, and they were planning on doing a midnight launch for that. There are also several other games coming out on the 2nd. But I think GT5 is the best selling came coming out on that day.

(Just checked, Kinect comes out on the 4th. And the only others that would compete are God of War: Ghosts of Sparta for the PSP, Goldeneye for the Wii and Blood Drive which is the Bizarre Creations 007 game. I'll ask again on Monday when I finish paying of the pre-order for it.)

fingers crossed though that they do.... i'll be lined up... and not working the next day

lol :D me too. I want to take the whole week off if my work lets me. You guys dont think it will be delayed again into late Nov or even Dec do ya?

I asked Gamestop when I pre ordered a few weeks ago. As of then they said they hadn't heard anything official but a midnight release would be great.

you can't buy the SE or CE after the next 4-6 years, but you do have a point.. and some people will get the game at midnight release (if there is one) because they've waited for this game forever and are anxious to play it!

I'm working for Gamestation, and our particular store is just about guaranteed to open, pending final authorisation. That doesn't mean every store is going to open, or that it will be a company-wide policy. But, I would go to your local GAME or Gamestation in October and ask around then, as it seems that decisions are still being made at the moment.

Hope that helps.

since you work at a game store, could you get an early copy of the game?

I asked yesterday at the EB I ordered from and they said they need around 100 preorders to do a midnight release and they only have 12.

I already posted this in 2 other threads but, hey, here it is again:

It's possible; but we're talking hours or days here, rather than a significant amount of time (and that's if an 'embargo' isn't placed on it - like it is for most major releases, and 'Move'!). The truth is I am at the bottom of the food-chain, but cautiously optimistic for an early sneak-peak!
