Only I'm buying a PS3 as soon as GT5 prologue comes out and am going to buy a hdmi to dv converter so that I can use my PC screen and speakers.

Does anybody else do this and is it any good? or should I Invest in a hdm monitor?

I'm a bit strapped for cash as I'm saving up for a wedding.

Any thoughts comments greatly accepted.

My monitor is a Fujitsu Siemens T19-2 which can go 1280 X 1024 pixels.

i do..recently set up a cockpit in the spare room..i bought a dell 20" widescreen monitor off ebay for £185..works well, wont support 1080p tho. Other nice, affordable monitors to consider are the samsung & HP widescreens..both around £199 last time i checked (in staples). But yea..HDCP is the key thing to look out for..!!

I would highly reccomend the HP w2207H monitor. It plays GT5P in 1080P despite being only listed as a 22" panel with native res of 1620x1050!

Its also pretty cheap too and has HDMI, fantastic monitor.

Hi.

This is what I'm currently using on my PC room.
PS3 -> HDMI-DVI adapter -> 24" DeLL PC Monitor 1920x1200.

The adapter is DVI-D dual-link on the monitor side.
It works fine at 1920x1080p (yes, 1920x1080 progressive) with HDCP, and correct 16:9 aspect ratio. It's as sharp as, for example, Windows Explorer.
You can vertically stretch the image to 16:10 on the monitor's OSD options, if you want to.

Sound is going to the Logitech Z-5500 Control Pod through an optical cable.

I've been using a Westinghouse 25.5" widescreen monitor. Picked it up for $400US. I absolutely love it.

I have both my PC and PS3 on 1 monitor, the ViewSonic 28" with 1920x1200 resolution so it easily handles Full HD resolutions!
PS3 on the HDMI and PC with DVI or DVI-D don't know exactly.

Saw the monitor in a dutch computer magazine and it was the number 1 in the test. It beat all the samsungs with the price/quality so if you have 400€ in a piggybank I suggest u get the one I have! :)

I've used it with my Samsung 275T (27") monitor with a HDMI>DVI converter, my LG 32" 720p HDTV and just last week I bought a Sharp Aquos 32" 1080p. On the Sharp Aquos, GT5P looked amazingly flawless- the image was sharp and suprisingly the jaggies weren't that visible. The Samsung despite being a high quality computer monitor (IPS), looked worse than the lower resolution LG HDTV although the color on the Samsung was terrific (due to adjustable temperature setting and hues). For GT5P, or for any games on the PS3, I would opt for a cheaper LCD HDTV rather than a computer monitor mainly because you have the adjustable settings- sharpness, saturation that may come handy in helping the game look better. Nowadays you can pick up a decent 32" HDTV for around the same price as a good quality 24" LCD Monitor.

I am currently using a HDMI > DVI converter on a 22" 1080i HDCP compatible Asus LCD. It works great! Was cheap too, only cost about $280(AUD) for the monitor and $10 for the converter in HK.

👍 I use the same one! It's a great Monitor

Craste, you don't have to buy an hdmi monitor if you have an optical sound output system (with an opical cable) as the only difference between Dvi and Hdmi is that Hdmi is able to carry digital sound (5.1 & 7.1).
If you do not have an optical sound system you might want to buy an Hdmi monitor and make shure that it has speakers included or you won't have any sound at all. Shure the monitor speakers are far from enough when it comes to sound but they have an headphones output jack and you can make the most of it :).

Good luck and let us know what you decided upon 👍

i do. i have a viewsonic diamaniduo. its a computer monitor but it can also be used as a tv seeing as it has a built in tv tuner. comes with an hdmi port so you wouldnt have to worry about needing anything special

I love that monitor although the thing must weigh as much as a car.

It's unwieldy and weighs about a hundred pounds. The biggest problem with the monitor is not moving it, but finding places sturdy enough to support it. :)

Great monitor though.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 226BW, connected to both my PS3 and Powermac G5 with a cheapo DVI switch I found off Ebay (bad idea- 1080p on the PS3 side means the screen flickers a lot, probably because it's not dual-link DVI), so I can swap between my computer and PS3 easily. It's a pretty good set-up, and even though its 22 inch and with a vertical resolution of 1050, it still does 1080p... Only annoying things are the aspect ratio is slightly off so the vertical... er, height is stretched, and when running in 1080p a warning comes up on the screen for a minute and you need to press a button to make it go away. Annoying when you go from the XMB to a game, as the resolution is reset or whatever, but since I sit at my desk when I play games (22 inch isn't the biggest screen ever) it's not that bad.

In other words, I personally would definitely recommend a monitor over an HDTV, its much cheaper

I am currently using a Dell SP2008WFP hooked up to my PC as well. The native resolution is 1680 x 1050 but the PS3 recognizes it as a 1080p display which is great. I thought I would only get 720p. Prologue and BD movies look great.

I recently played on a 19" crt screen in 1080p, but you need this, Costs about 50€ on ebay.

Later i bought a new monitor: Benq G2400WD, and it's really nice. About 300€ in norway.
This is the same as using a 60" monitor 50cm from the pedals with playseat (the 24" is just 75cm from my head)

But now a new 22", first 1080p with HDCP has arrived, costs about 170€ in norway. BenQ E2200HD

Are there any advantages playing on a PC monitor compared to a TV?

For me, it's the convenience of the computer desk to mount my G25 on and the extra support of an upright seat. My back starts to ache if I use the sofa or a stool and the wheel, but it works great for friends who play with the gamepad on the sofa.

For me I do not have to argue with my wife about the tv in the livingroom. And i think it is cheaper and more easy to place a 20-24 inch monitor than getting a new 40" full hd tv., and having a room for it.

I'm trying to set this up aswell, I'm currently looking for a 22" PC Monitor to run the PS3 on. Right now for my PC, I have this, a Viewsonic VA1912W, as I've read, I need a HDMI to DVI converter (I found a converter lying around at home) , and a HDMI cable for this to work. What I'm planning to do is buy the converter and cable first to see if it works on my current monitor, then buy a 22" monitor when I know it will work.

Basically a HDTV 22" will cost around $700 with the cable included, so as long as I save around $200 I'll be happy. Could anybody point me towards a fairly cheap converter, and a HDMI cable that dosen't cost too much (The one's I've seen in shops cost $100 for a few meters). So far I've run into a problem; sound. I've got 5.1 surround for my PC, although I'm not sure I could use them. Does this set up get you sound? And will I need to buy separate speakers, or can I only use the monitors inbuilt speakers?

Also, will this cheap cable do the trick, so this way that is all I will need?

I only use a cheap HDMI cable ($20 or so)

A thing you have to check with the monitor (or HDTV) that it is HDCP compatible. If not it will not work (without HD-Fury).

And if the monitor (or HDTV) have a HDMI connection and Speakers that is able to play the sound from the HDMI cable. Or else you need a set of speakers with Optical Tos-Link input to connect from your PS3. (if you do not already have this)

Thanks heaps mate, I already bought a HDMI > DVI cable last night and it didn't work. The screen (on the current monitor) went green, and that's about it. Now I'm looking to buy a monitor, something like this, a BenQ G2400WD. Seems like it has everything I need. It's also the cheapest HDMI compatible monitor there is to buy, apparently, or I would have gone with a 22".

Speakers, I'll just use the normal AV cables, and that's that problem solved.

Make certain that the monitor supports HDCP. HDMI does not imply HDCP. I was going to buy the smaller 22" BenQ, but it did not support HDCP: I would have gotten a blank screen.

I ended up with a cheapo KDS 22" LCD that exceeded my expectations.

Thanks for the heads-up. Most of the shop's websites don't state what 'features' are with the products, so it's a shame that I'll have to visit their shop in person and ask them.
