Anyone else feel like Mazda is skimped in GT5?

I feel like out of all the Japanese car-makers, Mazda is the least represented in GT5. Sure there are about a billion FD, FC RX-7's, and MX-5's, but there is so much more to Mazda than that.

Some glaring omissions:

The RX-3, SA22C, and RX8 GT are responsible for over 200 international racing wins, and none of them are in basically any video game. The Cosmo is the only 3 rotor production car ever. The Luce, RX-4, and R100 are just beautiful. All of them seem entirely 'up GT's Alley' but yet none are on GT5. A few of the above were in GT2 though, so it's not like PD doesn't know about them. I kind of think that outside of the FD and FC RX-7, rotary powered cars are just not very popular in Japan. They are hugely popular in Australia, New Zealand, the US, and Puerto Rico though. Come on PD, give us more rotaries!

I've always thought the same thing. But I had no idea about those babies when I thought of it. :boggled:

The premium selection is too weak. Good god I just saw the standards list of Mazda. 97 Mazdas and 37 RX-7s. I can't believe that. I've just started buying standards for the classics, so I had no idea about this.

Mazda skimped??? Have you seen the BMWs???? I'd be thankful to have 100 different 3 and 5 series.... Not even an e30 or e36 M3 in the game.... Please, Mazda skimped? If Mazda is skimped, then Nissan and Honda are too... A billion versions of the same model is plenty of attention to me...

OMG!!!! It's... it's... beautiful :dopey:

PD, forget what I said about wanting a Gumpert Apollo... I WANT THIS ONE INSTEAD!!!! :dopey:

And the RX8's sound... OMG... Am I on heaven??? :)

Attention to the model, not the brand. I also said 'japanese car-maker.' There are plenty of makers that are way worse off (like BMW you mention) but as a Mazda fan, there are just too many good Mazda's (with compelling competition heritage) left totally out.

I just sort of assumed the first Mazda rotary sports car would be in there. It's supposed to be one of the lightest cars, like, ever.

The first Mazda rotary sports car is in. The Cosmo sport. Ya know, the one that never sold particularly well and only had a 'decent' competitive history. Not the immensely successful follow up, the SA22C RX-7...

I would have assumed that, too. There are so many cars in GT5 that have been firsts of their kind and all sorts of types like that. The next GT has to get rid of the incredibly useless models.

OMG! good lord.....

It seems really strange. There probably isn't an explanation to it, either. Conspiracy crap.

There should be two FD RX-7's. The original '92 Model, and a Spirit R. That's it. Likewise, there should only be two FC's. An S4 and an S5. Then there should be two first gens. The '79 original and the '85 SE. Six RX7's instead of over 30. (minus the racecars, probably another 4-6)

Nice. That's a great a system. I don't get why they just can't think of smarter ways in dividing the cars up, instead of favoring some models so much that we find it utterly stupid. Do they even get that about the car list? There are simpler ways in going about it.

Yes, I do feel that Mazda wasn't represented well enough in GT5. (And I'm not talking about just Ahura alone!) Not only is the Wankel a jet of an engine, Mazdas are truly unique cars, and almost all models are a pleasure to drive. The Furai, for instance, is a car that's truly out of this world. The Cosmos, even stock, are a blast, and when well tuned and modded are fit to be driven by a superhero.
That being said, yes, other Marques have been somewhat neglected, too.
Guess we'll have to wait for more surprises, eh?

BTW: great OP! Love the pix! Thanks!

I agree that there should have been more variety, but I'd have to disagree about Mazda not being represented enough. The 32 different versions of the MX-5 in my garage can attest to that. :dopey:

I'm with you all.......

MORE ROTORAY POWERED CARS PD!!! :grumpy:

With those unique cars from Mazda here on GT5 would be epic! I still remember the enos cosmo and the FB from the early days of the GT series wish they were here though puts a tear in my eye. :(

By the way they also forgot the most coolest RX7 ever.......... The RX-7 FD Aspec! Who is with me? :D

Love the pictures!

Far too many duplicate cars in GT5, not enough unique/historic stuff like the cars mentioned by the OP. PD should rethink their car list strategy and put the game before the model quality. It's nice having the quality but not at the expense of quantity. I know most will take quality over quantity in normal circumstance, but it HAS to be balanced and GT5 is not balanced. either that or Sony should have let PD hire way MORE 3d modelling staff to get more premiums done!

There are a lot of key cars left out of GT5. Mazda suffers far less than most other manufacturers do in this respect.

Far too many duplicate cars in GT5
When will you people realize that duplicates are mostly a cut and paste job and therefore removing them (or avoiding including them) wouldn't accomplish anything?

Do you really think that, for example, both versions of the Premium Suzuki Cappuccino required each 6 months of time of modeling work?
Same, for example, for all the GT500 race cars mostly differing for their liveries.

when will people realise that STATING 1000+cars and having so many duplicates is borderline fraudulent claims?? The gaming industry really does fal behind others when it comes to treating it's customers with respect and PD is REALLY bad at times.

AND I'm not just on about SIMILAR cars like the 2 Suzuki premiums. I'm on about the IDENTICAL Vauxhall and Opel cars, the IDENTICAL Daihatsus etc etc.

But on the subject of premiums, the 18 MONTHS (3x 6 months) PD spent on the three VW premiums (Sambabus+2 WW2 vehicles) was an absolute chronic WASTE of time and resources considering the overall lack of premium cars. Bottom line is when you have limited resources (which PD CLEARLY did in terms of staff and time) then you need to prioritise the content a LOT better than PD did.

What would you say if a hospital spent it's limited funds not on extra nurses/doctors/medical equipment...but on extra tables and chairs in the canteen or on vending machines?

IMO PD spent time and money on the vending machines. They wasted it.

And how does this have anything to do with what I said?

You (and other people that constantly bring this argument up) made it seem like that with less "duplicates" there would have probably been more unique cars. That's not the case unfortunately, since they are clearly used to bump up the total count in an easy way, as even you say. That is what I wanted to tell.

By the way, I don't personally think that every unique Premium car in GT5 took 6 months to complete (especially the 3 VW historic vehicles which seem to have less detail/polygons than other ones). That is probably one of the many exaggerations (or lies of omission) told by KY.

why do people think it takes 6 months to make a premium...

Kaz mentioned it takes the team 6 months to create a premium car.

@SHIRAKAWA
Well, not every car takes 6 months, I understand that. And you did bring up a good point that I didn't really take into account.

That's a really good point. And I think it's pretty obvious, not to some, that the work that was done after Prologue was what we see in GT5. So in reality, 3 years maximum was spent completing GT5 after the release of Prologue. That's a great sign that GT6 will come much sooner than most are expecting. But still, it's a bit unnerving knowing there are so many "duplicate" models.
Most of the Skylines are definitely awesome though. It's just that it can't be said about everything else.

I miss the group b rx7 too but I didn't know there were so many other great cars we didn't get.

Very nice SA22C OP.

I could pick any manufacturer and name a dozen sweet cars that were omitted. Doesn't mean they were skimped....

i think they could replace some of the TONS of RX7's in the game there are loads of them when they could have put some of these great mazdas in.:grumpy:
