I HATE this freaking combination!!!!!! I managed quickest time at Rome by .09, but I'm 6/7 tenths off fast time at Tsukuba. I somehow managed to run a 1:05.70x, and haven't been able to come anywhere close. the only other time I've managed was a 05.8xx, and I'm mostly still having trouble getting below 1.06.1's. these cars slide around too freaking easily, and I can not get a good launch off the second to last corner to save my life. also, the Dunlop corner is screwing me up along with the final corner. I have no freaking idea where everyone else seems to be finding their pace! I freaking hate this track!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Tsukuba, I absolutely hate the other two. I went right to the top and downloaded the lead time's ghost and followed him around for a few laps. Got down to a 1:05.7xx I believe with some improvements to be had. I'm also having a hard time understanding how they are able to get out of the corners so quickly. I feel like I put my foot down any more than a hair width and the car wants to drift.

i gave up on tsukuba and worked to improve my times on cape ring and rome, because the aggregate time is what matters in the end. but since i'm nowhere near the top in any of the 3, it probably benefits me more to do it this way :)

you gain a tenth or 2 easy by going very very wide on the last corner just before doing a timed lap.

Go as wide as you can so you can get on the power as soon as possible (a lot sooner than with a normal driving line).

And always remember, turn with the pedals, not the wheel, specially at this track.

Haha, sounds like one of those, "Race better" lines. You know when the protagonist is like, "that's it...I've got to...race better..Genius!"

But, it does provide a new way of thinking about how to get around the circuit. I may be doing this subconsciously, but it's worth trying out or at least over-exaggerating to see how it affects my times.

I have an entirely different style than Fix, but I still like to "use the pedals to steer." There are some points at Tsukuba mid-corner where you can use the gas to rotate the car. However, I usually make sure that the back end quickly settles down once it's pointed in the right direction, and try to never let the tires get red. At least that's what I was focusing on this morning - got a 1:05.498 which is still 1/2 second off of the alien times...now I'm at work so I'll be trolling the forums for a while.

I've got to be doing something wrong here. I can't seem to keep the power to the wheels from coming on too hard. I try to turn with the pedals and I either end up plowing, or drifting. I could even be at 1/2 throttle and still boil off the rears. How can I get the car to power-slide on to where the outside wheels get more of the heat, and then be able to power out of the corner?

There's a difference between powersliding/drifting/sliding/whatever and using the pedals to rotate the car. A lot of times I will be on the gas <25%. Just the tiniest amount of throttle to control the attitude of the car. When I input more throttle I try to be smooth and progressively add more power all the way until the pedal is buried.

Don't be afraid to go 0% throttle for a moment to let the car rotate through the middle then power down. Sarah Fisher once told me while karting, don't open the throttle until you can keep the power down all the way out of the corner. There is no point in getting on the gas early only to let off as you are too wide on exit.

They must be right at the very limit of grip. I've noticed they use very slight late apexes but it's still very difficult to modulate the throttle smooth enough that the car doesn't slide. I can keep pace into and through the hairpins but the exit always gives me trouble, and that's the most important part!

On the 0% throttle thing, the engine braking on the rear wheels can be helpful sometimes when you just need that tiny bit of rotation. I still contend that it's extremely difficult to control motions like this very accurately with a game wheel though. Much more difficult than in real life and that learning curve is what I'm struggling with. Hell, it took me a week or two just to hold slides in iRacing and I was practicing non-stop. One night I was out sliding my real car in the rain and I thought "Oooohhh, I should try this in the game!" So I fired up the game and bam, I was saving slides left and right.

Actually holding a slide in iRacing in cars like the MX5 or Mustang FR500S is very difficult b/c of the racing slicks. When they regain grip they do it with some fury. I've been running the heck out of Barber and every time I come out of the pits I've been throwing a monster drift into that right hander, but almost every time unless I predict it just right it snaps back something vicious.

Sorry to go OT, just wanted to point that out :p.

I'm so ready to hotlap my life away, I need PS3/GT5 naow!

Same thing Sir Jackie Stewart told James May.

The nugget is at 3:30

+1 This is great advice.

1:05.901, the car is junk with these tires, i can find consistently low 1:06's, but pushing the car any hard requires changing my line. still working on that!

yeah, early/impatient throttle application is a killer.. I personally hate this track.. too short, no real elevation change, hairpin, turn, hairpin, did I mention hairpin? blah.. not my favorite, whatever, I'll deal. I did however unlock the human stopwatch trophy while lapping this track yesterday, that was cool haha.

You people think Tsukuba is bad?

Wait until Round 2!! I am pretty sure they are going to pull out the freaking FUJI!!!

Man, I hate Fuji with all my heart.

Fuji isn't too bad. at least it's not all straights and hairpins. it's just bleeding boring to drive. I expect them to use the Nurburgring in one of these rounds...

atleast i like fuji. i was cutting 1:34's with the modded zo6 on prologue.

i love the ring to, but i doubt i would do well in competition on it.

I remember breaking the 5 minute barrier on the Ring in GT4, so assuming something happens there, I would assume I would fair somewhat well.

They key to it is practice pratice.! everything will work perfect and all those tracks doesnt have the same rythm shifting, braking etc etc.. after 60+laps of without doing a whole lap, and just by mastering every corners, i'd managed to do it in my upmost form. i keep repeating every corner until i find a solution not those crap limit. because i dont wanna rip a time on crap condition with crap technique.

I actually really am starting to love the track. It's crazy how much better I'm getting with more practice. Still can't break into the 1:05's yet but I'm close.

I got my GT wheel yesterday. I'm waiting for my dad to stop hogging the TV so I can practice some more. So far, I'm getting slower times with the wheel as I haven't gotten used to it yet. With that being said, there are folks that got 1:05:xxx with the sixaxis controller. I've only been able to break 1:07 once with the sixaxis controller.

My 1st day using the DFGT I was slower, 2nd day, back to same pace, 3rd day, faster. Be patient and keep practicing and you'll get faster within a few days.

How often did you play each day? I think I played for at least 3 hours last night. I smelled the motor on the left side burning, but I have a limited warranty (...right? :irked:)

I got tired of running Tsukuba for 90 minutes or so, so I decided to tackle IA-10 for the remainder of the night. I was stuck at silver for a while on my sixaxis, but after a couple hours on the DFGT, I was finally able to defeat that yellow Ferrari (Enzo?). It was a nice looking Enzo, but I smacked it pretty hard out of contempt on the third or fourth last corner. Felt great. :sly:

I can't even seem to get to my fastest time anymore. 1.06.662. Now I can't even break past 1.07. I hate the tires.

made the top 100 (midwest) at the other tracks but cannot run here to save my life. Im stuck in the mid 1.06s. barely the top 200.

Finally cracked the 1.05 barrier with a 1.05.9 after bungie cording my DGFT brake pedal. It's getting tougher and tougher to find any extra time on the 3 tracks now, and I'm still 5sec off the overall leaders time...it's simply amazing lol.
