I've had it with bad drivers bumping me off the track all the time. A month ago or so it was possible to have a clean race and if you were unlucky someone hit you on purpose. Now I think the situation is the other way around. One hit is an accident - two or more, especially with critical timing - is on purpose. Also I got the feeling that racing in PP600 for example (lower than maximum rating), was cleaner than PP750. Now it feels like it's just as bad.

I can't see any reason to race online anymore. Haven't been participating a clean race for a week or so. Of course small accidents happen, I hit people too but I'm really trying not to. I rather go off the track myself than hit someone else if I can.

What shall we do about it while waiting for a damage model?

Park at the finish line (across the track) after getting bumped off? Will be a traffic jam there if everyone does that.

Or maybe park at the track where you were bumped off?

Don't expect the addition of damage to improve the racing. The wreckers will enjoy inflicting damage to other cars and more hosts will be quitting when their damaged car is no longer capable of competing.

Punters are frustrating at times but, lets face it, they're easy to beat and when they log off they have to live with being retards. We get to feel superior to them and pwn their sorry asses in game too. :D

+1

I havent had internet for a week on my playstation, i so miss online racing... so much more dynamic racing then the offline races.

i love online too. If you just expect people to be punting then it makes it a lot easier. Personally, I don't try and pass people cleanly. I just follow RIGHT on their bumper and wait for them to mess up. Then when they hit the gas too early/hard and the back end steps out, BAM! I steal the position from the inside.

You're not the first nor are you the last

I've quit racing random exhibition events online and now only race in the NTSC Tournament and other online events organized in the GT5P Race Events forum. I suggest you look into that

I haven't played online for a few weeks now. I didn't even play online much before. I'm still not interested in online play.

I wish there was some kind of "place" where you can meet with your friends (or race against strangers) and start racing each other in a LAN (with ingame voice chat).

Online racing for GT is even more important than damage modelling.
It wouldn't bother me so much if PD could implement private race rooms and voice chat.

Before you just quit, try using the GT5:p chat. Here's the link

I've been using this every time i go online. We all seem to get in the same races, and that makes this game a lot more fun. You'll still get some punters, but you'll have team mates in there to back you up.

Damn straight, if I see a GTP or friend of mine get taken out with obvious intent then I set off in hot pursuit to repay the favour. Even slight nudges on my pals that are obviously calculated, I do the same sort of tiny nudge back to let them know if they wanna play that way, I'm going to play back. First time offenders I let off as I do if there's any doubt of the accuseds intentions, but obvious punters deserve punting back!!

Us guys gotta stick together, I'm more likely to chase someone who punts one of my friends or teammates, then one who punts me.

The online races are my favorite part of the game. That said, the quality of the competition varies dramatically (from great clean fun to hair pulling frustration). I will start checking out the GTP online stuff.

I do the same.

Its VERY rare to enounter a punter who is fast enough that you can't catch back up and repay the favour. It's a fact that most punters suck at driving. 👍

no way! i've had some brilliant races over the last 2-3 days. had some really good ones today too. you may get punted off every now and then but when you have a truely good race it makes up for it 10x over

try suzuka 600PP, its pretty clean. last night i had some of the cleanest races ever on there. if only i could have put together one decent race.

it is nice to have a GTP tag behind you and not having to worry about checking the mirror more than the tarmac ahead.

exactly, when i have a GTP behind me i'm not worried about getting punted off so i can stick with my normal lines. also when overtaking a GTP racer you know they have seen you. when GTP racers overtake me i always give them room even in corners if someone dives up the inside i drive on the outside. thats proper racing.

I think the same can be said of pretty much any tag on track. Proper racers with proper manners. Respect to you all 👍

The difference between a racer and a noob is the racer knows he's been beat going into the corner, the noob thinks he can still win going out :sly:

generally speaking a tagged driver will concede if you beat them under braking, whereas it's only safe to take an idiot on the straights.

Suzuka 600PP Pro is nice! I use the japaneses version of the game and
hence (?) I get always connected to japanese servers. The japanese
racers are now pretty stable in their racing skills. I know almost all of them
by now and also their driving skills/behavior. I had lots of very nice/clean
races during this and last week. The best time to play with the japanese
version of the game is, up to my experience, from 3 PM - 9 PM o'clock
(GMT+1; Berlin).

The situation has definitely improved, since a lot of not so enthusiastic
GT5P drivers are gone by now. I can now feel more the thrill of racing,
since I had lots of races were I was driving bumper-to-bumper three
rounds in a row, and with an increase in pulse each round! Awesome!

yeh you are right, i have good clean races with GT5net, GTC and GTRP although i haven't seen many GTNDC about though.

I had a bad night last night. Some kid ossis or something, in a GT LM kept running me off the road and bumping me out of his way. Each time that I caught up to him something happened and I got behind him again.

For instance, at the hairpin at suzuka, I'm like .1sec behind him, I brake to go into the turn and some s2k rams me. I don't slide off the track but it puts me back far so I can't draft him on the 200r.

Or going into the double rights, on the second right he slammed on his brakes (I was right behind him) so that I rammed him, and he got a boost and I got stuck going 20mph.

It was really frustrating, because he was by no means a better driver than me, he just kept doing dirty crap or random other people kept getting in my way. Although finally his bad tactics got to him when he pissed off some evo X that came back and ran him off the track at the double lefts.

I've considered it since this second revision. I don't like being forced to drive certain cars or certain tires. So far, each event revision has made the online play much less interesting for me instead of more interesting.

I retired from GT5P online racing ages ago, infact still while I had only the Japanese version early in the year. Wasn't hard as I actually prefer driving/testing each of the cars in my own time trials.

I probably will go back when online is improved with private servers etc.

+1 for above

A few days ago I'd have said yes, I want to give it up for now but since then I've had some stonking* races with GTP and GT5Net guys, as well as quite a few untagged racers (oilslick or something like that is very courteous)

I find dropping to the back before turn 1 at Suzuka and hammering past the first 4 or 5 dodgems through turn 2 a good tactic. Then identify a punter and stick to his back bumper 'til the pressure gets to him and he slides off. Its a fun game... means you don't win many races but it can be immensely satisfying. I imagine that they can see my manically grinning face in their rear veiw mirror and laugh - mwuhahaha - like that, you see?

If there are no punters, the racing can be really close, exciting, and worth the wait.

Nuhuh, I'm not giving it up any time soon.

Or ever really if GT5 is as good as we're whinging for it to be ;)

*Stonking = awesome, exciting etc...
