I'm going to be making a cockpit and i was wondering if any one had fitted a bigger wheel. I want to use one from an m3 like mine but i dont know how the bigger wheel will change the force feedback and stuff

i relize different wheels can be fitted but im interesed on bigger ones. Its pretty hard to search for soemthing like big dfp steering wheel

Search. This has been done before.

get over it its fine to bring up something thats already been, i didn't know it had been done b4 so whats wrong with making a new one

on topic: i was thinking of adding a bigger wheel to for more realisim but thought it would be too hard and it would probably take a bit of force feedback feel away
the wheel would have been to big for where i drive with the DFP now anyway

I guess it could be done. I don't know how mechanical you are, but with some metal and a Mig welder anything is possible...

You wouldn't want to fit too big a wheel though - I think if it's too big the force feedback won't be nearly as effective as it'll take much more motor power just to move the heavier wheel, let alone you hands. Just think of the weight before you slap it on. :)

I found an old steering wheel form the sixties, aluminium and wood, very light...
It will be fitted on my almost finished foldable cockpit!
Pictures soon...

it isnt against the law to discuss something twice.

would you rather this be a living breathing message board, or an archive?

The larger the wheel you fit, the more torque the force feedback motor will have to generate to make you feel like you have to fight against it.

If you know your way around electronics, try running a seperate power supply directly to the force feedback motor. You might have to add some more heavy duty components to the control circuitry, but the motor should be able to handle an increase in voltage and current.

I havent taken apart my wheel yet, but I am planing to do it so that I can change the LEDs from dim green to bright blue. I'll post some pics whenever I get around to it.

Although I am perfectly satisfied with the steering wheel that came with my DFP, I can see where some folks may want to change it. Please look at this post by the GTPlanet member Werner Winkels:

This man seems to know an awful lot about modifying the DFP and accessories for it, and from what I’ve seen on these boards, he is most likely to be the very person that will be able to answer your specific question. Much of the information that he provides is in German, but you may want to send him a PM asking for additional information.

Here's a guy who did that. If he's still around, he might have some info for you...
