I am slowly working (very slowly) on a 1967 Mustang and a T--Bird. (You know what model year <---look left)
I'm trying to build a near replica of my old 'Bird.

Yep. I enjoy my hobby. :)

Nice one. I'm thinking of getting a model race car... an NSX or something. Anyof you guys know what brands are good? I remember some were like more detailed and better looking but I can't remember anymore.

I've built a couple, but the only real model I really put time into was a race truck that I built when i was 9 or ten. I built two other Diecast scale models of a Viper GTS and a Viper RT-10 but I didnt have to paint those.

I havent done it for 2-3 years.

I made a '57 Chevy hot rod (how original)

The one I put the most effort into was a 1987 Buick Grand National. Its perfect.

I have about 10 partly completed ones. Including a 1964 Chev Impala SS thats complete but with no paint!

I don't build them anymore... mainly because i sucked, and i don't have the patience.

I buy them fully built, now. :)

Tamiya makes far and away the nicest 'consumer level' plastic models, particularly of Japanese cars (of course) and European. I built a number of 1/12th scale F1s from the late 70's, and some GT models from them like the Porsche RSRs and some others. Hasegawa also makes nice models but I don't think I've seen anything but aircraft and military models from them (which is what I mostly built).

If you want American iron, you're most likely stuck with Monogram or Revell. AMT's are a little better if you can find them. Tamiya makes some American cars, but no too many.

Definitely avoid places like Wal-Mart, and try to find a good hobby shop. It's worth a little drive to get a MUCH better selection, and better tools/materials. Tamiya also makes pretty good water-base model paints - much better than the Testors stuff which is like nail polish.

My friend's father built and raced dirt track cars in real life, and I scratch built a few Modified-type oval trackers from tube stock and square stock, kit bashing engines, body panels, wheels and things from other models. They even had working suspensions using ballpoint-pen springs for the coilovers.

i'm about 2/3 of the way through a 1998 Integra Type-R with some body work. i have to wait until spring to paint it (humidity). it's going to be competition orange with a black hood and rims.
i've already built a 1995 Corvette ZR-1 and 1997 Mustang SVT Cobra; i almost finished an F14-A Tomcat, but my brother destroyed it.

I used to build alot of models. Haven't in a while. I've built 200+ model airplanes and 2 model cars. I find airplanes are easier to build. One of the cars I built was the Tamiya Porsce 911 GT1:

The last model I did is a Italeria AH - 1W Super Cobra (a helicopter). I havent finished the blades yet, the glue was pretty crappy and they sagged and ruined the joining bits, so I'm going to use some super glue on them.

Before I did that I did a Tamiya Grumman A-10 Warthog. Which I'm quite proud of apart from the painting which I rushed but still looks good.

Prior to that I did the USS Missouri, unpainted and I can't remember the brand.

and prior to that I did a '56 Ford Custom Pickup (F100) which I did quite well apart from accidentaly picking a lacquer paint which is hard to work with.

I've also done numerous little (1:24, 1:32) cars including Cobra's, Mustang's and a few Ferrari's.

I'll be picking cars that I wish I could own. I'm partial to Porches, and some classic race cars. I wish I saw a GT40 on that site. I posted the pic I did because I thought it looked like a real car.

When I built a few models way back I remember being too young, to impatient. I'd get frustrated that it didn't look perfect (because I rushed) and never finish.

And Navy ships too!

My brother and I built a whole Navy fleet once! Increbitable, but then he moved, took them with him, and in turn got rid of them somewhere.

Ever since I started this adulthood, work/school stuff, I really don't have time anymore. :(

I picture a big table in my garage where I can lay it all out, paint and use glue with good ventilation, listen to music and get a little "me-time." I also picture a little boy in a few years who want's to play with the cool toy cars :p I don't know if I'll have time. But even if it takes me months and months it's still something to do with something to show for it.

My Z is by far my favorite. You can't see from that picture, but the paint is a metallic blue. It's so very cool in person.

I've built 6 model cars:
'94 Corvette ZR-1 (white)
'57 Corvette (red w/ white stripes)
'67 Mustang Fastback (black)
'70 Trans-Am (white w/ blue stripes)
'96 Viper GTS (blue w/ white stripes)
'82 Mountain Dew Buick (white/green)

*major ownage:p *

I'm currently doing a Calsonic Skyline R34 using mostly Tamiya paints, but for the blacks i'm using testors paint. For the next model i will buy a Tamiya paints.

Why, yes... here's my Impreza WRC -

...and here's the Integra (so far) -

fc9a3a18.jpg

The Impreza is a Tamiya, and the Integra is a Revell. There's no comparison: The quality of the plastic and the detail on the Tamiya is far superior. I wonder if the fact that I'm using Testors paint explains that I can't get an even coat, no matter how hard I try.... :banghead:

Recently finished these two:
Mazda FD RX-7
1999 Subaru Impreza Rally

Currently finishing:
Toyota Celica GT-S

And waiting to be done:
Nissan S14 Silvia
Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R
Nissan Skyline R34 Loctite/Zexel Race

I'll throw some actual pics up when I'm done with the Celica. And yes, Tamiya rocks and Testor's sucks. :)
