I've just went to the toilet to do my stuff before heading to bed when all of a sudden, the whole room was shaking like there was a moving floor beneath my feet....to say I was mildly surprised would be exaggerating a tad...(!)

Just wondering if any people in the U.K felt anything while they were sleeping/watching telly/talking/dozing watching telly?

Yep felt it here in Manchester! ... just posted at another forum regarding it  I was playing COD4 online ( doing pretty well may I add :p ) all of a sudden my chairs rocking about like it was being shaken by the bloomin exorcist hahaha ... I realised it was an Earthquake as soon as everyone in the house woke up with wtf was that??

That was my first experience with an earthquake and it seriously had me believing in the supernatural

I personally am glad that I live far away from any faults. Unfortunately since I live on the Gulf coast in the USA I get the hurricanes from hell.

Currents throw the hurricanes straight towards the panhandle.

There was one a few years back in the area of Melton Mowbray or Milton Keynes (I forgot which) or something like that, which was felt in the Midlands area. However I think this one definitely felt stronger than that one! Or maybe it was the same intensity, cos I was out on my bike that time...

It was totally surreal, the floor moving of it's own accord and the noises associated with it was faintly....well, odd. I mean, you don't often hear the house walls and floors creaking and so on do you?!

Felt it here in London, slightly unnerving but it was nothing.

It sure was freaky yep :p oh .. its on BBCnews24 now! apparently they have reports from London, Manchester the Midlands already .. looks like all over England, it sure was a wake up call!

2002 quake was 5.0, this one was 4.7.
I didn't feel it here in Essex, feel like I missed out :(

Felt it here in Bedfordshire.... was just doing some online browser games and the whole house started a rockin.

My first thought was that Cloverfield was becoming reality!

Yep felt it here too in Brackley, Northants. Supposibly a 150-mile spread!

Makes you realise that we're all just ants running round on one big living breathing ball

I thought someone was landing flight 815 on my house, i went outside to see if Jack and Kate had turned up with the polarbears.
I wouldnt mind Kate turning up.... but she hadnt...
:irked:👍

Thought it was my imagination at first, like the loose floorboard shaking my desk fan on the floor 'til I noticed my tv unit, desk and the draw thingies on my lamp shaking.

haha freaky stuff.

Bigger than first thought...

The tremor was felt at about 0100 GMT and lasted for nearly 10 seconds but it is unclear if it has caused any damage.

The British Geological Survey said it believed the quake was of the magnitude of 5.1 and said the epicentre was close to Grimsby in north-east Lincolnshire.

A spokesman said it was the biggest earthquake to hit England since 1990 and could be of a level to cause minor damage to buildings.

someone didnt waste any time.

What is standard protocol for earthquake safety? GTFO of the house asap?

Well as the Epi-centre wasn't too far from me, I definately felt it. Although at the time I passed it off as a dream and went back to sleep. However, when I woke up this morning I found the whole shelf of books had fallen over, and the glass cabinet had moved all the cars. Then my Mum came in and confirmed what I had passed off as a dream.

I just heard about this on the radio, apparently Northumberland was one of the few areas not hit by it.

There was one in Blackpool. I didnt feel it, was sleeping.

Gosh, makes you wonder, if it was any worse, I would of died sleeping... forever dreaming of that runaway bus :D

Felt it here in Sheffield, was very short though, seemed to only last 10-15 seconds :odd:
