Anything i can do to spice up my GT5 game

A steering wheel would get you playing for sure. GT5's on another level compared to a DS3 on a wheel. You can drift, join a league, take photos (trust me, it really changes how you view GT5 afterwards, as you start noticing the tiny details PD put in GT5) :sly:. Or you could just take a car out to try and beat your time at your favourite track. At least that's how I entertain myself in GT5 from time to time.

Everything changes. Drifting/racing/cruising/ect. Everything is so much better and brand new
 
Got my wheel and had to buy another one as the Ferrari Experiance GT wheel is not very good for GT5.

Has it changed my game and made me enjoy the game again ? YES many thanks for the advice guys. :)

Glad you got a wheel - this was what has brought me back to GT5, I was rubbish with a controller, and soon got bored, so I switched to something else for a while then bought a wheel, and I think I've been playing it for 3 months straight at least and I'm not bored yet again, using my DFGT was a challenge to begin with, now I'm even more used to it, have started to use MT after taking off all the aids, as well as now driving competitively even offline - no using the X1 on Sunday Cup, lol.

I'm no good at drifting, but I think that this will take longer than a few hours to perfect (I tried it for a few hours, and I just couldn't grasp even the basics) so I think I need to try it again in dribs and drabs rather than just focus on it for a couple of hours and keep doing it until I get it, which I can't.

I think there is plenty of stuff to do in GT5, so I shall not be getting bored anytime soon, I've just discovered the Photomode competitions so that's occupying a bit of my time, and I've started collecting tickets to try and get the cars that I really love with no mileage on, etc. as well as collecting every car, I got close on another account, then got bored and made a new one, then reset the collecting account and I am now doing it again - I have three accounts and keeping track is difficult, lol, but it just proves that I can sit for hours playing/watching/browsing this site etc. for hours on end without getting bored, and doing things that I need to do when I feel the need. I have yet to get up to S licence, on any of my accounts (this just seems like a chore) and I've yet to complete the Special Events, all the seasonals etc. and do the 24hr races, but by still having them to do I can't run out of options, plus I want to try WRS, but I'm not that fast yet and can't get better than silver on the registry qualifier (AMG Academy Special Event Intermediate).

Sorry for such a long post, but I've been considering these things for a few weeks now - what can I do to keep playing and not get bored? So I commend you for buying a wheel (that was how this post started lol) and coming back to GT5 to discover all that it has to offer, which is more than is just on the surface.

Get a good wheel, minimum DFGT.
Set up a good cockpit.
Turn all the aids off and keep cars on their native tires or close to them.
You'll learn how to drive all over again, it'll be a completely different game.
Join a league or a good club and race with guys that are experienced, clean and respectful, regardless of skill level.
 
Lots of good advise in this thread.
I would recommend a Logitech G27 wheel. I've had a few $100 wheels, and they all failed within a year. My G25 is more than three years old and has never given me a problem.
Trying to find a good race in the open lobbies is a PITA. I've raced with a few leagues and have great races 90% of the time.
Plus, you can always try to earn the platinum trophy.

Get down the local Oxfam and buy yourself a dress and heels, a few swalley's later get behind your new wheel set and head for the open roads!

Having played GT5 from day one i am now getting a little bored with the seasonal's and have completed single player mode.

Online is fine if you can find or host a room where there are no idiot's screaming down there microphone's.


Things i have done to try and get back into GT5.

Bought a 3D Monitor and tried playing again in 3D mode fun for a short time.

Tried starting a new game but found with having the Stealth,Chrome and all the DLC cars its far to easy.

I am thinking of getting a steering wheel but unsure if it will get me back playing GT5.

Now that you have the wheel it might be time to think outside the box.

You can focus on realism ( I drive a real car for real), or you can focus on going as fast and safe as you can in any given car.

Turn on to SRF with racing soft tires, tune in to fast fun side by side racing, drop out of all the criticism that comes from the people on this website.

Timothy Leary would surely approve.

Oh, and yeah – mics suck.
 
Another thing you can do is get into the tuning side of things. If you go with the above choice of turning all the aids on, then tuning isn't really necessary, anything will do if it's an arcade game, but if you want a real challenge, try to tune cars on their native tires with most of the aids off, maybe leaving ABS on as that's by far the most popular way to drive in the game, and thus the most people would benefit from your tunes if you choose to publish them.

Tuning is a real art, mixing and matching various settings, trying to get cars to behave the way you want them to behave. There is a nearly endles variety of race cars, FF's, tuner cars, FR's, MR's, RR's, Supercars, beaters...etc. etc. etc. And thanks to PD, every few months they go and change up the game physics and you can start all over..never ending fun.
 
Started trying to take photo's of the cars its a lot harder than i though but add's something to the game.
 
Get a wheel and try some other games/sims. Then when you get the urge for it, go back and play GT5. No point in forcing something, the wheel novelty will wear off after a few days anyway and then you will be back to being bored of GT5 because you're bored of GT5.

If you give it a break and try some other titles, you might want to play GT5 for genuine reasons then. For the wheel, it should improve your experience and probably even your laptimes, for drifting I actually unplug my wheel and use the gamepad as it just works better, but for everything else using a wheel is an advantage in terms of enjoyment and performance.

Move on to another game. You don't have to stick with just GT5 until GT6 arrives in 2015.
 
My way is to make and use custom music playlists for the racing and menu BGM.

I usually have 1 playlist for the menu music, usually slow and moody, and another for the racing, which is faster and upbeat.

You'd be suprised how much more interesting this game is when your listening to music that YOU want to listen to.

This is good advice!

I play "dogma style".
All aids off, tyres as the original car was fitted (and never on Softs). Always all displays off and in cockpit view, to support the originality feel of the cars.
I still haven't found the perfect racing league, but I play som online with friends... but this still needs some attention for me :-)

But there's one thing nobody mentioned yet, and it's meant a lot for me!

I like the "originality" of GT5, but find the car sounds unrealisticly dull. I started using in-ear ear-phones to be able to turn the volume up without waking up the kids (i run the sound through my stereo amplifier). Then I got a set of bass-heavy in-ears (Denon), and boy that made a difference! Now the sound is no longer "un-sexy", and it adds a lot to the overall experience.

Time trials. Depending on your skill level, try for top 1000, then top 500, 250, etc. It can get quite addictive.

Like you and Johnnypenso mentioned, I've been playing in a more sim-like mode for a few months now. I joined a tuning prohibited group and that inspired me to add that factor in too. No aids and no tuning in street cars for offline.

I gave Shift 2 a try out a couple weekends ago. Try to drive in that game with a wheel then go back to GT5, heh.

If you're looking for a league where you can run any car you like, cockpit view, no ABS, tuned, untuned, whatever you want...and be DeadNutsEven with every other car on the track...check the link in my sig:)
 
Just do what I do, play "distracted driver" by having my wife sit on my lap while I try and drive. It may not spice up GT5, but it sure does the relationship 👍 ***WARNING***CAUTION*** OK kiddies, do not try this in the real world, in a real car, driving down a real road...it can be very dangerous! In the privacy of your own home it is perfectly safe, legal and all kinds of fun :sly:
 
I have a had a wheel since I bought GT5, I have the DFGT, it broke not to long ago, but I found GT5 never really got boring with the wheel.

Purchasing a wheel would be your best choice.

If you get a wheel, learn to drift with it, it is very hard and take tons of practice. Works up a sweat too.

Every now and agian I will join dirty NASCAR rooms, there is always a bunch of older guys in those rooms who like to have a good laugh.
