If Gran Turismo 5, was NOT about racing against AL cars. Then why is there an arcade section, where one can race against 16 al cars. And all of them start from a grid position, not like in seasonal 'arcade' catch-the-rabbit races.

Arcade races can be some of the best racing in the game, shame there is no qualification or championships, or money for completing arcade.

There could be arcade races and championships to complete. In fact they could easily be implemeted into A Spec.

Arcade races could include: mini racing in cities, honda integras/civics on created courses, cars from the 60's, 70's racing on real tracks.

Championships, could include qualifying for F1, touring cars, RM cars. And all racing with damage, and 16 cars on the tracks. All the cars racing should at least be equal in pp.

What do people think?

Yeah agreed, I enjoy the arcade races as you can actually adjust your car level to get a fun race rather than "catch the rabbit" as you say.
I would be in heaven if there was qualifying though.

Catch-the-rabbit is a feeble attempt by PD to increase AI difficulty. Totally agreed but Arcade races then would be even easier as they are and for most racers, we want a challenging race rather than a walk-through.

I really think they should make better use of the arcade mode. For example by including there proper arcade-like game modes with a simpler/more immediate game progression, and leave the GT Mode for the most simulative aspects of the game, including realism. By doing so it wouldn't be necessary anymore to dumb down the GT Mode to please all kinds of users.

The very few times I do occasionally start GT5 these days arcade mode is the only thing I do.

Although even there I find the AI pretty dumb and it never really feels like racing. If on the other hand they had actually tried to create a believable AI I would have been happy with just access to all cars and arcade mode racing.

If they added qualifying and custom championships I would have been over the moon!

NASCAR races in Arcade are good...they definitely improved the AI there. Still not perfect mind, but better than what it was.

I also think that if it's an Arcade mode, they should really have the option of Arcade physics...

Arcade mode could be the best thing about GT5. It just needs player AI selection.

Agreed

Modes where the player creates the experience are generally superior.

My idea for future GT is to do away with Arcade, put GT Mode on the side, and make Simulation Mode the main feature. No credits, no trophies, no points or score. Just the player, they player's 1000+ cars, and the ability to make any combination of tracks, AI cars, and online/split screen player cars.

As for current arcade mode, I don't like how it selects cars. Also, online is completely superior.

Arcade NASCAR is 15 AI cars drafting each other to catch the player. And then ram their way into first.

They don't start from the grid, they still do that stupid single-file rolling start.:irked:

.

Online is not superior. Pd screwed up by changing the physics, which is so frustrating when the cars handle different. Second, even with all the work pd has done the servers are awful and there are so many tracks that people can glitch off the track. I do agree with your idea of having access to all the cars in a simulation mode, gt mode should come first, even before online. It always has.
