Each to their own of course but I really don't get this. I can't argue that a behind the car / bonnet [IMG] view makes the game easier to play but craftsman have spent years creating a realistic driving experience. Why do so many people including seasoned gamers insist on plane such masterpieces as though they were playing OutRun on the Commodore 64??

Cockpit view! Please! Persevere! And get a wheel. Email may not believe this but playing Gran Turismo 6 in this way has actually improved my driving on the road. That's how realistic it is. So if you haven't learn to drive yet start now! It will save you a fortune in driving lessons.

I'm sorry I just needed to get it off my chest. I don't mean to insult anybody!

i use the in carview when i am playing for fun, but it feels like tunnel vision after 23+ years actually driving. i also find the sitting position to be way to low compared to my actual height. i have always used chase cam in racing games as it gives me the best view of the track, whats around me, and i can see the back end start to slide before you "feel it" in cockpit view.

    Hi DairyWorker.

Sure I know exactly what you mean about tunnel vision and a low seating position. It certainly not the easy option and makes the game a fair bit harder. Do you think the seating position appears too low because we are not used to driving those kinds of sports/race cars for real (I'm speaking personally) which tend to have lower seating positions or are you talking about all the cars?

Also do you think a VR headset (obviously not with GT6) would solve the tunnel vision issue for you? I've never actually used one in a racing game.

just in general over the years with pretty much any game i can remember with in car view. as an example i drive a bmw 3 series in real life and in driveclub in the m3 my veiw out the window is about three to four inches lower than real life. i always feel like i can bareley see over the dash

never tried vr, but i suspect it would eliminate the tunnel vision/lack of peripherals

With Gran Turismo, I always enjoyed the car behaviour simulation in the first place, and using cockpit view I kind of don't know what the car is doing, where precisely it is placed and feel disconected. Using chase view, I see the car's movement, I can judge adhesion and traction and can put the car right where I want, just like when driving real car. Paradoxical, but it is like that.

If I tried the chase view right now, I probably wouldn't do one lap / 2 minutes without crashing. That would change by experience but I have no idea how long that'd take and whether I'd improve the lap times.

Me too. It would be like trying to steer a car sitting in a trailer with 20ft long arms for me!

Well you do definitely get to see the car you're driving for sure. And the Porsche has surely one of the sexiest behinds!

Cockpit view...looks lovely, but generally speaking no matter how I adjust the camera height or distance, it feels very restricted (tunnel vision as already said). I am literally unable to judge apex's properly or feel what the car is otherwise doing on the road, and that's just from decades of using bonnet cam. Equally I'm unable to use chase cam, as I constantly under and over-steer to correct any sliding, totally unusable for me! So, I either use bumper or bonnet cam. Exceptions being things like carts where you get a better view of the wider road. Ultimately this is a game being played in my living room, I don't need to feel like I'm sat in a car or use a wheel. If I wanted the former, I'd use VR, but 1:1 is a bit pointless at the moment. On that note, I do believe that VR would help significantly with looking into apex's and reducing the tunnel vision effect.

I've always used Bonnet or bumper view when it comes to sim racing. Cockpit feels too restrictive in terms of view. If I had triple screen or VR then maybe at that point I'd pick cockpit.

Also, the screen is too far away from me to use cockpit. It doesn't feel natural. I'd literally need the screen almost touching the backside of my wheel to be positioned correctly. That why I prefer bonnet. (except for GT since it's rubbish since it's way to small) The TV is my windshield and the dash is between my rig and the screen.

I'm in the car at all times.
I can't fly around the track on top of or behind what I'm riding in.

I made the switch to cockpit view exclusively years ago but I've only been playing game's that have fully adjustable views. If I come back to GT I'll probably go to bonnet view unless the full game includes a huge overall in this area including full FOV adjustment.

Sometimes one is not in the 'cockpit mood' :) I find it relaxing to do some laps using the chase camera every now and then. It is a pity that they disabled the rotation around the car in the outside view. It was available in the beta. I guess they removed it because of the rotating trees. It feels very restrictive, especially after getting used to the freedom in pcars.

I play with different views depending on the mood I'm in, And I only play with controller too  despite having wheels for both PS4 and Xbox One

I do always use cockpit/first person view when I'm doing trackdays in my real car or on one of my real motorbikes though.

No, I’ll use whatever view that I prefer. That would be the “invisible cockpit view”, noobs call it “bumper cam”, or as commonly known by the creator of and longtime fans of the GT series, the “normal view”. And I already have a wheel.

If you insist everyone play as you like it, develop your own game and only have one view. Good luck, the sim market is a tough but to crack.

Yes it does!!! Expanding this FOV option from GT6 was HUGE. I like to be as high up and forward as possible.

I've tried cockpit; many times on many games. I too dislike the "tunnel vision" effect or overall lack of visibility. IRL, I drive A LOT! I need to see as much of what's going on around me as possible. I sit as high as I can (within reason). I wind up playing better, and enjoying myself more with a dash view, or I guess the "normal view" in GT. Never been a fan of chase view myself and the roof view in GT gives me a weird perspective, that's the only way I can describe it.

In ref to not "feeling" what the car is doing? Even with a Ds4 controller, I CAN feel what my car is doing much better with a cockpit or normal view. I don't need to see the rear of my car sliding to know it's happening. It's the benefit of video games coming sooooo far over the years.

In ref to cockpit view (or any driving perspective view) making me a better driver ? Yes and No. it absolutely makes me a better race car driver and somewhat everyday driver. I take exit ramps, highway merges all with the apex in mind :-). Less tire wear, smoother :-)). Up till the point where I play a good bit of Forza or GT and notice my wife and kids keep grabbing the suicide handles in my SUV and I see them sliding around in their seats and drinks toppling out of cup holders :-o. Then I realize I have to dial it back a bit LOL

In ref to just "one view". I don't see the reasoning behind restricting an entire game. It would be cool however if setting up your own league racing, to make this a default. Again, it's about being able to customize the game, not restrict the game.

I understand what you're saying but not all of us can utilize a wheel set up, it's not practical for me although I'd love to have one. I personally use the bonnet cam or the bumper cam, agree about that need for speed chase cam veiw, that one shouldn't even be an option.

A wheel wasn't practical for me until I found one on eBay for £50 and discovered I could screw it to my Black and Decker workmate

    Different views have different advantages.

In general I prefer cockpit / dash / helmet cam in games for the immersion. But often I switch to different views for various reasons. In PCARS 2 for example the interior view of LMP2 cars is so restrictive and the speed so fast I actually prefer roof camera. In other games when I want a better vision I prefer hood camera. In GT games I have always liked the road camera with just the speedometers. For arcade games like Forza and NFS I prefer chase cam.

Very often the choice of alternative views also depend if they give you an extra rear view mirror or not. Proximity indicators help a lot as well to know what’s happening around you.

For drifting in a proper game/sim I cannot do it without interior camera. In FH3 then it works way better in chase cam.

    Conclusion: It all depends. :p

I'm only having a moan because I'm bitter about not yet owning a PS4 so I will have to wait for GT Sport(I'm on GT6 still). I'll just have to enjoy all you guys enjoying it for now. Enjoy!
