ARCAT Race Series Announcement and Warmup​

Welcome to ARCAT, American Race Cars on American Tracks! This will be a 4 race series featuring 4 American race cars on 4 US based tracks. I'm also including a 5th bonus warmup race to kickoff the series.

Warmup Race Details​

Rules

* Please post split times here in the thread and I will maintain a leaderboard. DO NOT discuss full lap times.
* Standard, Clean OLR Rules apply.
* Replay verification will be required from the top 3 times each week.
* I reserve the right to request a replay from any racer.
* Please save your replay for at least 10 days after the race deadline.

* Monday, September 1st, 2008 - 5 pm PST (Pacific Standard time, GMT -7 hours)
* Please submit via PM to me (EDK). Please submit only once.
* I will move to a Tuesday deadline following this warmup race.

This car is a little quirky, but I found it to be a great fit for the track. Don't be fooled when it bogs down at the start. It only has 3 gears, but it's really just missing first gear and it's a little long legged. Also know that the tach on the screen is no indication of the redline. Give it good rip and hit the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd so you can learn the shift points. And have fun. 👍👍

Thanks to all of you for making the first race a success.

I've scored the results here, but they will only count toward the series in the case of a tie in the final standings of the 4 regular races.

Great times from Zikwik and jmgyro. You guys showed why you are D1 in WRS. I've put my .max replay on the last post, if you guys can do the same, it will be much appreciated. Anyone who would like to is welcome to post a replay.

Some tight racing in the ranks of the WRS D2 crowd as well.

Hope to see you all over at Infineon in Race I of the series.

looks good! I'll work on getting that car soon, at the moment I have some stuff going on in real life.

I may not be able to do the race with the Ford GT LM because I don't have that car on my back-up card that my dad sent me, and that's the save that I have most of my cars on. Maybe I'll have it by the time we get to that week, I don't know.

Also, race stewards note. I was working most of the morning on getting this up and had no idea WRS was also on El Cap forward this week. Unless the participants think I should, I'm not planning to change the track here. Should make it an easy adjustment if you are going to run both. And I must admit that I had even considered the combo Sjaak posted over there. Must be a mind link or something.

Thanks Steven - You get El Capitan on RS tires x 2 this week, so that should make up for the city tracks and/or harder tires later.

Are you serious?!?! You're totally missing out! It's one of the best cars in the game, hands down. So beautifully balanced and full of grip. Toss it into turns sideways and just go on through them like you planned it(even if you didn't). Or if you plan it. Seriously though, it's an amazing car.

I've only got 48 more cars to buy to complete the full set of every car in GT4, and what's more, I've earned every single one of them, my B-Spec driver has 0-0-0-0 stats, and I've not gone for the easy money options! (I've also not reused a single car yet, but that'll change when I start going back for leftover A-spec points!) It just so happens that at 1,000,000Cr, the Oreca Viper has been left hanging around, although I figure I'll buy it and give it a 200 A-spec run out at Infineon World Sports Car Race and it'll earn back most of what I paid for it!

Had a quick 10-lap "feeler" session to see how this combo goes, and it's pretty nice! I do like the quirkiness of the Chappys, and this is no exception! Getting the car setup right for the crest after the tunnel is a little tricky and I've not managed to find a "full-throttle" route through there yet.
Only managed 1 completely clean lap, so here's something for you guys to destroy!

Had been doing the hill after T1 nicely, but now every time I touch the hill my car is launching off into the railing. And now I see double El capitan/Racecar, with WRS being the same. Haven't checked that out, but I'll probably like this one more.

update: still too cautious on the hill section, but had some solid splits, but a very terrible ending

This place ain't my cup o' tea (despite its popularity I just can't call it a favorite). I am currently chasing a 25.0 T1 ghost that is PUNISHING me even when I get a 24.7 T1 cause the hill is is just so f'ing random. Plus going between this and GT5P is really hard for me At T2 I've seen a 55.992 but blistered that (like Jack) horrid finish. I can't wait 'til we really start the series!

You may as well do the WRS too.

The warmup was intended to generate some interest and as an excuse to the use the Chaparral, because I like it, but did not want to make too many people angry.

The series combos are going to be epic. Some of my favorite tracks, and I already spent a lot of time on getting the car/track/tire matchups right.

Just survive this week. I think I will only make it count as a tie-breaker, if needed. 💡

I'll just run the ones I can and compare them to the lap times to what everybody posted on my own so I can see how I do since I have no replay proof.

The hill is still slightly random but not as worse. As for how to do it I know of a few races in the WRS/BC7 that had racecars doing that hill perfect. I believe the WRS was by GPkart or MrP in a car similar in power and BC7 by holl01 in the Minolta. Although psycho went quicker I'm not sure he went faster at the hill and I can never really tell speed with the Minolta.

Think GPkart uploads vids under that name on youtube, and either Sphinx/Mr.P upload WRS vids but I don't remember their names. Look for them for better strategies, there's probably an easy way to do it, I just wasn't racing ElCapitan at the time so I didn't look that closely.

Good for the lines and the splits were about the same for MrP and GPKart, but I don't think you can go full speed up the hill then brake, I usually brake some first with the Chaparral.

I'll definitely run this tonight; El Capitan is one of my favorite tracks and I like Chaparral's (can you tell?)

Hi guys, I will try and get a few laps on this tonight as I aint doing much racing anywhere at the moment and el cap is always an enjoyable track to get reaccustomed to 👍

The week 100 race at El cap was a great week and a very close race between myself and Kart but 2 different drives and set ups also as Kart was using the wheel whilst I was using the DS2 .. He was driving in car view and I was driving kiddie view and finally ( not running him down for it! ) he used the brakes and accelerator together in the turns wheras I used 1 button at a time versus 2 pedals together He still beat me though but the way they were driven were a million miles apart ... which will explain the different braking points for certain sections, yet still so close at the line

I look forward to booting this up tonight and seeing how it feels 👍
