Are cars "dulled down"?

please forgive me if this has already been posted, I searched but did not find anything about it... I noticed today that the cars in GT3 seem "neutered" compaired to their real life counterparts. I drove my friend's Civic Si today (stock), and when I got on it just a little bit, she took off like a bat out of hell. I hit 60 before shifting into 2nd. Now I was just playing GT3 and was driving the Civic SiR, and this thing doesn't compare AT ALL. It just lurches off the line, slowly cruises up to 30 mph, which is where i had to shift. Now I understand that they are 2 different models (Si and SiR) but to me that difference jsut seems way too severe, considering their both stock. The specs in the game say that the SiR has 15 ft/lbs of torque... that seems awfully low to me. is there something I can do to fix this? Thanks

the cars probably are dulled down. Im sure all those cars are somewhat better in real life. but if you read the message in the beggining it says that all cars in this game might not match up to the real life cars as far as looks go and performance.

Well, it probably only seems slow because there are cars that can reach 300 miles per hour without any trickery. There is no sense of speed in the game. I've never driven at 230 miles per hour and then slowed down to 60 in less than 2 seconds in real life but I don't think GT3 represents it well.

Oh well.

Yeah, Iv'e seen that message countless times... it just kinda bugs me that the differences are so severe when this is supposed to be the most realistic driving/ racing game. mabye I'm too picky

60 MPH?! In first gear? Remind me to not let you drive any of my cars.

The torque ratings in GT3 were screwed up though. There are some reports that GT4 is going to be more accurate than GT3 when it comes to speed an lap time issues.

No no, when I drive regularly I'm a good boy. I've just never driven a car that I felt could handle it, and I had to satisfy my urge

Sorry, but a Civic Si can't do 60 MPH in first gear. You hit the 6800 RPM redline at about 35 MPH. You hit the 8200 RPM fuel cutoff at about 45 MPH. As a matter of fact, at 60 MPH you're into the red in 2nd gear.

The Civic SiR in GT3 shifts at 33 MPH and runs a 16.6 quarter (400M) fully stock with an automatic without being broken in. Just a muffler will get it down to 15.9.

A truly stock Civic Si runs low 16's. The game is certainly being reasonably realistic here.

Huh? The Civic SiR is a faster car.

The Japanese 1992-95 Civic SiR-II, which is represented in GT3, has a 170HP engine with 116 ft-lbs of torque.

The 2000 Civic Si has a 160HP engine with 111 ft-lbs of torque. If your friend has a 2003 Civic Si, that's a 160HP engine with 132 ft-lbs of torque. They're both heavier than the old SiR-II.

If you look at the Civic SiR-II in the dealer, it says 167 HP, 115.72 ft.lbs. of torque, which is right.

There's a bug in the US version of GT3 where once you get a car in your garage, it shows the torque in Kilogram-Force Meters, even though it's still labeled as ft-lbs.

I agree. There's no way a stock Civic can reach 60 mph in first (not unless it's been fitted with a 3-speed auto. transmission ;) )
There are VERY few stock production cars (with manual transmissions) that are able to reach 60 mph in first gear...

Yep, and Honda VTEC engines are notorious for their poor low and mid-range torque, so it looks spot on to me.

They've attributed this lack of low end grunt as a major reason for the poor sales of the S2000, which is why Honda's working on a 2.2 litre version (with no more top end HP, but more low-end torque)...

That thing is seling poorly with all the accoldaes Car and Driver, Road and Track, and Automobile are giving it? It's cheap, too. That's weird.

On a stock Civic that is very true, but I remember my old roommate back when I originally moved to Orlando having a CRX hf from 89 I believe. He dropped a B16 into it and left the stock tranny on it. Whether or not everything with the electronics were hooked up accordingly and whether or not the cluster gauages were correct, he could get up to about 50 to 55 at redline and at 90 in second. That is all going under the basis that the cluster was correct though.

One other bad thing about the game is that the reaction times are slow.

I drove Dad's Skyline the other day(in the wet) and it was sliding all over the place when you accellerate (with med-high throttle) while turning at a T junction. In GT3 i tried the same thing on a wet track in a R32 GT-R and i couldn't get it to be as 'twitchy' as i got Dad's one. (and his is 4WD too - see signature link)

Anywho carry on.

The difference is probably that you're not getting any of the physical sensations of driving (well, if you're using a force-feedback wheel, some) - the shove in the back, the feeling of the transfer of weight under braking, acceleration and as you turn. That accounts for a lot of the sensation.

ye ITS ALMOST IMOSSIBLE TO GO 60 in first gear..almost al cars eed to be shifted twice in order t reach there 0-60. ya maybe you just wer thinkin i was 0 when in fat it was really like 25...ya what kinda car do you drive normaly? i mean i civic si is a cent car u its not haf as fast as you credit i with....i would get a rt b4 i ever got a civic anymodel...jdm or domestic! btw are a little ricer boy that tinks 10mph is 1000 r what

I don't mean to sound pretentious, but you make it impossible not to.

Rewrite that in English.

Almost impossible?

He said he was talking about a stock Civic Si. With that much information, you can be sure that it is COMPLETELY impossible, because you would hit the fuel cutoff long before you got to 60 MPH.

I've shifted my astra at the red line love the high reving sounds :D
something i dont do often tho.
60mph in 1st? nah!

Hey Miata13B, dont you think that if the stock tranny is limited to 35 mph in 1st gear at redline, and that you then swap the engine for a more powerful one that the gearing is still the same? If no change of tranny has been done, I really dont see why it would magically change to be able to reach 50-55 mph in 1st gear. So Im guessing your friend has a problem with the computer management system.

My dad's BMW 328i 1998 reaches 60 mph at about 5000 rpms in 2nd gear. Considering a Civic has close to no torque, it would take a heck of a long time to reach 60 if an appropriate tranny was fitted in. The Lambo Murcielago can reach 60mph in first gear... can you really compare a Civic si to a Murcielago?? So in other words its not possible.

no, the one he was talking bout in real life. he said that went to 60 in first. if he was talking about 60 km/h the yes, ok. but he went to 60 mph in first most here find it unbelievable.
