As said above BBC 2's Top Gear programme went to the Nürburgring and drove an S-Type diesel around and tried to get under ten minutes. It took two days but eventually he did it in 9 mins 59secs, but the girl who was showing him the track went out in the same car and did it in 9mins 20 odd seconds, but she said that she has been going around the Nürburgring since she was three years old.
The GT series is close to real life but its not, and hence the times in GT will always be slightley faster, there are too many factors to take into account to make it just like real life.
S-Type diesel
We've always known the Germans like a quick drive, after all their country is home to the legendary autobahn. The UK, however, is stuck with 70mph motorways full of caravans and trucks. And, as if road tax wasn't enough, new roads actually require you pay AGAIN to use them. The M6 toll road, for example, describes itself as "the most exciting development in British transport history for many years". Well, sorry to break it to you guys, it might be the best thing Britain has in the way of a road, but the Germans have taken toll roads to a whole new level of exciting. Imagine being allowed to take your car for a spin at Silverstone. That's what Nürburgring in Germany does, you can drive as fast as you like around a one-way racetrack. So, what better way than to test the diesel engine in the Jaguar S-Type than by trying to get it round in under ten minutes. Jeremy's 'course coach' found the whole thing jolly amusing, and didn't seem to think he was up to the task. Thankfully for his pride he proved her wrong.
