It seems some people just don't get it. Here and elsewhere. Looks like a lot of the video game public expect GT5P to be this huge, extravagant, end all to games. I think there are some that actually think that GT5P IS the final game. I thought something like that might happen. If the rumors are true (one million pre-orders in Europe) I can't believe that there aren't some people who are expecting a full game here. Isn't that about how many copies of GT4 sold in Europe? Maybe I'm not giving the general public enough credit in their inference skills. Or maybe I'm not giving Ferrari enough credit with their amazing powers to entice people to buy what some are just explaining as a demo.
 
Fair point . But this is the first of the GT series on next gen and with PD's track record(no pun intended) I guess everyone just wants to see what they have done.

Plus you kinda hit the nail on the head with the Isn't that about how many copies of GT4 sold in Europe?.
Thats alot of people waiting for the next installment. and now it's here even if it is only Prologue
 
I agree with you (on confusion), we have already seen threads here of people wondering why GT5P doesn't have so and so options, because they thought GT5P was a full GT5 release.

I think in general Americans will have more trouble with this (SCEA's concern) as they have never received a Prologue before, I don't remember much problem with GT4P in Europe from memory.
 
I live in America, and I can tell you many here will be confused. I know because of friends in school, I was the only one to tell them its only a HUGE demonstration on what is in stores for us for the FULL game.

Hehe, yup. since demo is such a small world, Demonstration sounds better to their ears..
 
i dont think most people in america know what the word "prologue" means.
 
Consider whether or not you buy Prologue as your measuring stick of how much of a GT fan you are. There are a lot of people that are VERY thankful we (in NA) get Prologue this time around.

The anticipation surrounding this game tells you exactly why Gran Turismo is Playstation's #1 franchise. GT Nation is rising up from it's slumber and by purchasing GT5P (numerous time for some of us), we are telling Sony, "THANK YOU!!!"

If someone buys Prologue thinking that it is GT5 (full) they are either without internet service, without access to video game magazines on a regular basis, or they will just buy anything without educating themselves. Those are the people that real estate agents and car dealers circle around like sharks in a feeding frenzy.

This is where a knowledgeable video game sales staff at electronic/gaming stores comes in to play. They need to educate the consumer at an unbiased level.

Then we have people calling it one thing and they think it's another. They are calling it the "GT5 demo" and that's not what it is. ONLY Japan got the "GT5 demo" in conjunction with the TMS ;)

Then again, some people are just dense.

The best way to describe Prologue is to liken it to the appetizers you PAY FOR at a restaurant. The bread, crackers, and water are like GTHD and the GT5P TMS Demo......free.
 
But it IS a demo. Why do all diehard GT5 fans refuse to admit to that fact??

It's not like we are saying that it is bad in any way shape or form because of the fact that it is a demo. In fact, it has more content than some actual games out there! However, it is still a "demonstration or preview of an upcoming or recently released video game" (Wikipedia's definition of a game DEMO).

Admitting to the fact that it is a demo of the full game won't make it automatically terrible. You have to be dense to be such a stalwart that you won't admit that it is a demo...
 
Ahh, the demo word. We're not demo-ing the final game. It's Prologue, an introduction to their work and beta online test. TGS one track download was a demo of the Japanese prologue.

Its a whole new experience and excitement on PS3 imo and I'd rather play this than other console sim type games even if they had 5 million cars, modes and paint jobs, so I hope the pre-orders know what they're getting, coupled with the fact that PS3 is game starved. Its just the adverts that concern me.

A demo is an introduction to the work a company has put into the game, and if they have online multiplayer support it is also an online beta test.
 
It isn't that GT5P isn't a demo, it's that previous "demo" releases for many other games have been 1.free and 2.devoid of much content. Calling GT5P by the same name just puts some people off because it doesn't seem to do the game justice. It most certainly is a demonstration of what the final game will be like. It's also a complete experience that very likely will keep many more than occupied until the full game is delivered.

agreed. it IS a demo. its just not a demo in the same negative vein that the gaming world has seemed to place other "demonstrations" in.
 
Finally, some reason!

I think people don't want to call it a demo as demo implies that it will be free, and this is not the case with Prologue.

Well its called Prologue and not Demo or Technology Demo or prototype. It's the beginning of GT5 and not a demo otherwise why not call it that. It's not a demo of the final product or anywhere near it, nor a prototype but a beginning that goes on sale.

And Demo is what they called the TGS one track download which fits your quote exactly and not GT5p for GT5.

Oh, ok. So, GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4 (a beta) were all "demos" leading up to Gran Turismo 5. PD has had it's hands tied due to hardware constraints for 10 years. All they were able to do is demonstrate within hardware limitations what their vision of Gran Turismo was to become once hardware caught up with their vision.

GTHD = demo. DiRT demo = demo. Sega Rally Revo demo = demo. Burnout Paradise demo = demo. TGS GT5P Demo = demo.

GT5 probably won't fulfill PD's vision of what Gran Turismo is supposed to be. So, that means GT5 is going to demonstrate what their vision is too.

If Home were a "demo" you'd be stuck in your own apartment like a caged rat. All you could do all day long was trash your apartment. That demo, like a 1 track racing game demo, would get old quick.

Some demos give you more playtime, such as 3 tracks and 5 cars to choose from.

Would you be happier if PD called it Gran Turismo 5 Beta? That is what it is in the end.

It's more than a demo. It is a full game in and of itself. You're not stuck on 1 track with a handful of cars and board with it by the end of a weekend.

I dont look at it as a demo or a beta. A prologue is what its called and I believe thats what its intended to be. In fact it has more content than alot of racing games available right now. We cant help the fact that people will buy this and think it the entire finished product. They will find out sooner or later.

content is not the issue. its the purpose.

but i am willing to compromise and accept this as GT5 Beta.

And some demos happen to give you 75 cars and 6 or 7 tracks. :)


Is the word "demo" a taboo around here? Do you need the satisfaction of calling it a real game to justify spending $40 on what you subconsciously realize is a demo?

This is much more than a demonstration. I can guarantee those people at SEMA were playing a "demo" of the US release of "Prologue".
 
It's a Demo.

Just think of it this way, normal demo's come out, have so many cars and tracks, so much % of the Full version, how much % is it?

How much much percent of the full product is in Prologue?

Probably the same %?

And in what way is it "much more than a demonstration"? It has a lot of content? It costs money?
 
The demo for Gran Turismo 2 - at least, the demo that was bundled with Official Australian Playstation Magazine at the time - consisted of a one-lap spot race of the Rome Circuit in a Mitsubishi Lancer. You could browse through the other cars in Arcade mode, but thre was only one race and you could only use the one car (I think; you might have been able to use a Ford Mustang).

GT5:P is considerably larger than that.

It is a DEMO with MANY CARS and SEVERAL TRACKS.
 
Because I don't agree with it. GT5:P is not a demo. Demos are usually limited in how far they let you play, but let you see what is available in the full version. And you don't have to pay money for them.
 
So if this was free, would you call it a demo? Think about that for a little bit.

And on that bombshell, 11/22 cars left with 25 laps to go!
 
If GT5:P were free, I would call the men in white coats. There's no way PD would be giving this thing away. A three-lap spot race around London; maybe. But five circuits, plenty of cars - including Ferrari - and online capability? There's no way they'd give it away.

Yeah, but how many of them were of the scale and depth of GT5:P?

The longest demo I have ever seen was the Final Fantasy VIII one, which consisted of about forty-five minutes' worth of (very limited) gameplay.
