Are People Confused?

I think there are two ways of seeing things colliding (and obviously not agreeing) here.

If you say that any playable portion taken out of a full game is a demo, then yes, Prologue is a demo. However, many people do not refer to it as being a demo. The reason for that is not that they want to make it look better than it is or justify that it costs quite some money. The reason is that the term "demo" just doesn't do the content enough justice. Compared to other games, this could well be a full game.

And I do agree with you that technically, it is still a demo, no matter how big it is. But you should at least respect that this is about as big as a demo will ever get, so people will refer to it in a different way to pay tribute to that fact.

a lot of people meet with consoles with playstaton 3.it's not a surprise that gt5p pre order reached 1 million. even motorstorm sold 4 million copy!

Were do I state its a book or novel.
Note and Comprehend: I stated its a direct qoute from websters dictionary and it really doesnt matter what you call it. The developers created a prologue I believe thats what it is. I didnt metion anything about a movie you must be confused with someone else's post. Please do not continue to embarass yourself by trying to correct someone who obviously has a comment based upon fact. I dont know what any of your comparisons have anything to do with an introduction or pre-game. Cats, dogs in steaks? Lets try to keep things relevant hear it already a simple minded conversation.

Don't you even pay attention to what you post? You are contradicting your own dictionary quotation post in this post.

Obviously, you know I'm right when I mentioned calling my cat a "dog" and the bit about calling a roast a steak. Otherwise you would not act confused. That analogy was so you could understand what is happening here in the simplest way.

You're back pedaling.

Its clearly stated what it is. It has more content than a few complete games in stores presently. Even if Yamauchi himself told you in person what it is you would probablly be still stuck on stupid mode. but like I said if you believe your paying $40 for a demo :dunce: more power to you. And good luck on figuring out how to turn the door knob when your ready to leave.

Everyone has a different view on it.. don't insult people while you have your own opinion.

A demo is something knocked up as demonstration material to represent a small taste of what to expect usually shown pre-release. A prologue is an introduction, there's a subtle but clever differene when PD chose to use that word in the title. Is a demo an introduction, of sorts yes, but is a demo a prologue? Well a prologue is in GT5:P's case an introductory event, it's a seperate event to the main GT5 that provides an introduction to GT5, but it is a seperate event or in this case, game. So no, a prologue isn't really a demo. A demo can provide an introduction but it isn't a seperate event, it is part of the main event or game and they are tied together. Call GT5:P what you want, but in terms of content and the experience it warrants a purchase price.

Someone made some sense finally. And As I stated, It defeats the purpose of Demo to be called a "Demo of a Demo"(Who thought that up?) And with that, Someone please close this thread as apparently this subject, which is quite irrelevent when put in comparison to bigger things, cannot be discussed without a argument.

Point well stated Dave. I dont think it will help though.

I see what you are saying, but I think that it all comes down to personal opinion really.

Some people need to call it a demo in order to warrant the price, others believe that there is so much content that there is no way that it could be a demo. These people will call it a prologue.

Others believe that it is, by definition, no matter how much content available, a demo, and will call it thus. However, some of these people (like me) realize that this "demo" carries so much content inside of it that it is worth the purchase price.

There are the two distinctions, does this make everybody happy?

One thing I know, I still call it a demo, and I would even gladly pay double as much because of good content.
But we all know this thread will be here alive and kicking till full GT5 game.

GT5P is an amazing, vastly superior to all...demo :)

well, the thread wasnt supposed to be whether or not the game is a demo or not. mainly, i was curious to see if others felt that there are people who think this IS THE GT5.

I see. It appears that (as far as I can tell) that no one thinks this is the full game. Also, I think people are just amazed at how a "demo" has so much content and how it functions more like a full title then a regular demo that it might leave some regular gamers to mistake it as a full game, even as we all know it isn't.

It's not really a question of anybody on here as we all know, but of the regular uninformed masses who will buy it expecting it to be the full game.

I'd say people here are confused. Every time I mention the game I have to explain the whole story of it being just a "prologue" and why NA didn't get it last time. How many clueless 9-year-olds and their even more clueless parents will buy this thinking it's the full game? A lot I reckon.

or clueless 10 - 30 year olds?

Yep, quite a few if you include those people as well. Probably more people in their 20s know it's a prologue though, thanks to the web.

Those being the gamers that don't follow this series regularly(not meaning the people on here).

Jesus, why can't people accept that GT5: Prologue is a demo? If it were just called Gran Turismo Prologue, it'd be a seperate, full release but the fact it's giving an introduction to the main game releasing in the future it is, by definition, a demonstration of what is to come!

Price: That's irrelevant, when you buy a game's mag mainly for the demo disk, are you not paying for that?

Length: also irrelevant because no one has ever defined how long a demo should be; as long as it has less content than the full game, it is a demo.

Calling it a demo is by no means detrimental to the game's image or how much enjoyment you can get from it.

I am going to give my thoughts on this, as I see way to many people trying to argue semantics that may not even apply.

First, I have asked a few people who had GT4: Prologue if it was basically just a shorter version of GT4 or if it was a noticeably different game. I have only heard them say it was a noticeably different game. The physics were similar and sure many of the cars were the same, but it was not just a small version of GT4. Thus, it is not thought of as a demo. Maybe it is a physics and graphics demo, tech demo if you will, but it is not a demo of the game itself.

Now, with that in mind it makes me think of games on handhelds. For example: God of War: Chains of Olympus is now on the PSP. It is a small version of a God of War game. It is a slight change from the regular games in both size and gameplay. In all reality it is a teaser/preview/fill in for God of War 3. The same can be said about Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters or Daxter. Are these demos or are they smaller games of an IP?

I see Gran Turismo 5: Prologue the same way. It is a smaller Gran Turismo game using the IP and technology but as it does not consist of any form of final game play and layout of GT5 it is not a demo in the sense that game demos are. At worst it can be called a tech demo and at best a separate, yet smaller, part of the GT franchise. But whatever it is it is not, technically, a demo of GT5.

That is how I see it because it differs from traditional demos in nearly every way.
