Hi there I searched the forums for a similar thread but could not find anything.

On to the topic. What would you guys think if PD added a rep system for on-line racing?. I think this feature would definitely be of use to a majority of people out there. A quick yet simple system that would determine if a player has bad or good history whilst racing on-line.

It would work out like this.

Driver 1
Driver 2
Driver 3

They are racing one lap of High speed ring. Drivers 1 and 2 had very clean driving and driver 3 wouldn't stop ramming. At the end of the race you can give rep to other players.

Next time your friend hosts a lobby and Driver 3 comes into the lobby. Simply click his name and check out his rep. His rep is bad due to ramming and bad driving so you can kick him out.

I like the idea BUT a system like this will be abused by trolls.
After a couple of days all said trolls would have 100% rep while other people who happen to land in their room would get bad rep...

I wish we could set level restrictions and/or license restrictions when creating an open lobby. I'm sure that many of the 'trolls' haven't actually bother playing the game and most likely they haven't reached a high level within the game or wouldn't have done the license tests. If the 'trolls' actually bothered playing the game they might actually like it.

This option may not completely filter out the 'trolls' but it may cut down on them significantly.

A rep system would be nice but I agree that it would be abused.

Yea it could be abused but there must be a way around this such as getting approval from host to submit the rep in the first place. But I suppose the host could be a troll himself. Nothing is ever simple in life :grumpy:

True.
All of the fast racers would get a bad rep .

It sounds like a great idea but like its been said, people would abuse it. But saying that you could have it so you turn it on and when you hit people you get minus rep or only the host can dish out the bad rep.

Only being allowed to give one positive and one negative rep per day might help.

...for what fleshing out this hypothetical situation is worth...

Indeed, people might give you a bad reputation since you ended up in a ramming group and you were the only one racing, so you did not play the game of the lobby where you were.

I think they should do something like dirt 3.. Driver Rep.. if you crash a lot.. you rep goes down.. red means they crash a lot.. yellow means a little.. green means they are a clean driver and white means they're super clean letting people pass and not blocking..

so in gt5.. I think this would work.. but they would have to make a couple sections.. 1 would be for short cutting and another for how clean they drive..

I suppose if your "Rep" reflected your driving style rather than what someone thinks of you then it may work. But with the way the penalty system works now you could get a deduction in your rep for being a victim of someone else's bad driving.

I think PD has plenty of other issues to iron out with GT5 before they should ever think of implementing a system like this.

Yeah, unfortunately I think a rating system like that would be so ripe for abuse.

After all, haven't you ever been in a pub lobby where everyone was driving horrid, but being nice to the HOST! So the host probably thought they were all cool - had no idea what they were up to on other parts of the track. :boggled:

Then there's the people who don't like clean drivers & would stick it to them.

Then there's the people who've figured out how to cheat with the penalty system to give other people penalties while they do all sorts of nonsense themselves.

Too flawed to work.

That's why I like it here. A reputation of the human controlled kind. ;)

I want a rep based on people leaving races because they are last or w/e they only leave the race and stay in the lobby. You can start a race with 12 cars and in the end only 7 or 8 finish as the rest have left. I hate quitters. Whats even worse if you go in a lobby with boost strong and people still leave are they that stupid? they can easily catch back up to the pack

I'll admit it now, if someone touches my car they'd get a bad rep lol. But it's a good idea. OR you have to have a certain 'high level' of rep if you're to be allowed to rep other players? Only players who log in a certain number of hours on GT5 every week would be allowed to have high rep and rep others.

I've given up online sick of it last time I was on in my beloved e type jag I got shunted of that many times I'd had enough I wouldn't mind but 90% of the guys racing we're faster than me so had no reason to force me of the track or ram me

Yeh, but it does mean dude knows how to drive.

That could be debatable.
But point being, the OP was talking about a rep system to encourage clean driving and penalize the dirty drivers.

Some of the cleanest and quite fast drivers I've raced with haven't ever finished their license tests, or at least not with all golds. And some people have 60 gold licenses and make nuisances of themselves wherever they go.

Yeh, but it does mean dude knows how to drive.

With the pre-patch licences (where you got disqualified for the slightest contact with one of the other cars), I would agree. Dam, they where really tough ones. :D:tup:

Now you can play destruction derby without getting penalized. :ouch:

About the OP's idea, yea it will abused by trolls. PD have to fix the online system, that's the only solution. :sly:

Penalization/Off: everyone's shortcutting & ramming you from behind

Penalization/On: no problem with shortcutters, but they are still ramming you from behind & you'll mostly end up with a time penalty for getting rammed. Wtf, seriously !?!

That's my experience, from some online races some weeks ago. Haven't tested it since then, but I guess it's still the same broken crap, not woth going online. Something changed in the meanwhile?

60 gold in licenses does NOT = clean driver... by any stretch of the imagination.

That's not what I meant by having a license. We should be able to set up an open lobby where it requires you to have achieved a certain license within the game. For example, an S class license.

When I check the license level of the people that I'm about to kick most of them don't have any license. But like I said, this system won't eliminate all the troll drivers but it may help cut down on them.

This wouldnt just benefit you 'Superguys' some of us arnt trolls but are just not all that good, I dont use a wheel for instance. Im happy with my standard but If I was to go race online (somthing I havnt done yet) I would get Mullered so I dont bother.

The current level system telss you nothing other than someone has raced a lot,,,,big deal, Im a level 31 but Im still crap. some sort of level system sholud be developed for online only (like Fifa and other games) which is based on your result and who it was against. Then there would be far more genine competition for players of all standards

From my limited experience online racing got quite a bit better during the last year. Most people still playing GT5 seem to know what they are doing, at least compared to a year ago. Most rooms I enter are actually mostly clean racing. Of course crashs and small touches happen, it's no different in real racing. But overall people seem to want clean and fair racing.

A few hints about what can help:
1. Play with mechanical damage on, light damage is enough. From my experience such rooms are usually cleaner.
2. Talk about clean racing in the chat. Clean racing is mostly about a certain culture of playing in the room. You might have to spread the word. Psychologically it's probably not the best to enter a room of someone else and make demands. But you can of course talk about it in a neutral way or -maybe the best way- just apologize if you touched somebody or you can ask if some borderline maneuver was OK for the other. It doesn't matter if everyone in the room was much more aggressive than you. You can still make them aware of the issue.

A rep system can easily be abused.

So to make something like that work, the rep you can give somebody should only be positive and not negative.

even the cleanest drivers make mistakes, and it would be easy for even the clean guys to get a bad feedback rating through a genuine mistake or somebody that has passed the bad feedback unjustly.

A person should only be able to hand out out 1 rep per day of positive feedback. (not negative) limiting to 1 a day will ensure that drivers choose who to give feedback to wisely rather than giving them out like lolly pops.

In time good clean drivers will gain more positive feedback, while bad drivers would either get none or very little.

Each persons profile should show online races entered and feedback gained.65 races 7 feedback.

Public lobbies could then be set to only allow members with a certain feedback to enter. +5 +10 +15 +20 etc

For clean racers who are yet to gain feedback or who have little will have to host there own lobbies without limiting entrants based upon feedback, so they that they have the opportunity to acquire feedback. These nursery lobbies may be a little bumpy, as that is where all the bad guys may be, but there will also be clean guys as well.

Additionally password protected lounges and the ability to ban drivers from ever entering a lobby hosted by you.

Still though the system could be abused so would need some more thought but something like above is kind what they should be working on.

Or like me, just race out of private lounges using a something like this which is what I created for my club. http://www.gbracingclub.co.uk/news.php?item.28

Its still a headache and takes allot of work kicking drivers etc. Best bet is to get a solid group together and race out of private lounges.

I sometimes join private lounges ran by reputable GTP members, and out of 12 or so in the lounge there are always 2 or 3 unknown to the host who join and cause probs, they then get kicked and often another couple of rammers will join in there place, cause trouble and get kicked.

It isn't that difficult to get the S class license.

I am by no measure a 'Superguy'. When I started racing online with my S class license I wasn't as good as many of the other individuals that I raced against but I raced them clean and earned their respect. Most of the people that I regularly race against do have their S class license so I would like to be able to set a license requirement on my lobbies to a certain license level.

At least this would give someone a reason to complete the license tests because right now license tests really serve no purpose within the game other that teaching you how to drive.

I would like to see a safety rating system implemented like iRacing uses. Drivers get automatic point deductions when they hit another car or go off the track. You get points added for completely clean races. Also, you can only race against drivers at your safety rating level.

It would require some tweaks for NASCAR bump drafting, but any bump that wouldn't cause damage could be ignored by the monitoring system.

Exactly!
Quite frankly, it's almost as if some of them are set up where the easiest way to get bronze, or sometimes especially to get gold is by being aggressively sloppy & plowing through.
1 gold license I have, I got gold on the 1st try, by accident, by getting distracted at that moment, braking too late, and dive bombing an inside corner & riding one of the AI cars for a bit. :boggled:

Bad rep for everyone better than me!!!

You know it! There would be tons of those ratings!
You're faster? You can stay on the track for a whole lap? BZZZZZZZZ! I hate you I'm giving you a bad rep.

Be your own host, many headaches and problems are solved by YOU that way.

Only because many people in pub lobbies are not stupid enough to be ramming & punting the host.
