For my first attempt at this, I visit the Nissan Dealership and purchase a brand-new Nissan Skyline GTR Vspec II Nur. R34 '02 and have my pit-crew perform some tuning adjustments. After some tuning my Nissan Skyline has the following spec:

PPvalue: 495
Horsepower: 375
Weight: 1440
P.Limiter: 95.2%
Tires: Sport Hard
SRF: Off

Sitting on the starting grid I see the following cars:
1.Bugatti Veyron
2.Enzo Ferrari
3.Viper SRT10
4.Ford GT '06
5.Viper GTS '13
6.TZ3 Stradale
7.MB SLS AMG
8.458 Italia '09
9.Reventon '08
10.Diablo GT '00
11.GTR Black Edition
12.Ferrari 599 '06
13.Jag XKR-S '11
14.Ferrari F40 '92
15.Corvette Stingray C7
16.me

The flag drops and we're off!

On lap # 1, I begin my drive thru the field and end the lap in 13th place some 15.8 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 2, I pass the 12th place Ferrari 599 and end the lap still some 13.1 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 3, the 10th place Lambo Reventon pushes me off into the grass just after I pass him so I lose two places and end the lap in 11th place some 18.2 seconds behind the race leading Bugatti Veyron after a slow 2:28.695 lap.:ouch:

The race leading Bugatti Veyron pits at the end of lap # 4. On lap # 4, I set a new lap record of 2:23.772 and end the lap in 7th place still some 18.5 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.
On lap # 5, I pass the 5th place Lambo Diable GT and then dive into the pits just behind the SRT Viper GTS for a new set of SH tires and 24 liters of fuel. As I pull into my pit-stop, I get the news that I am still 18.3 seconds behind the race leading Enxo Ferrari who hasn't pitted yet.

While I'm in the pits, I get passed by the Nissan GTR Black Edition, the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Bugatti Veyron, so as I begin lap # 6 I'm in 8th place in the race.

At the 1st checkpoint on lap # 6, I see that I have fallen 32.2 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari. Though by the end of the lap, I see that I am only 22.2 seconds behind the race leader, so I've made up some time.

As I drive up the S/F straight at the end of lap # 6, I see that there are four cars in the pit-lane, so when I begin lap # 7, I jump up into 3rd place in the race. I'm now just behind the race leading Bugatti Veyron and the Enzo Ferrari (who has just exited the pits in front of me). At the 2nd checkpoint on lap # 7, I get the news that I am 3.7 seconds behind the race leading Bugatti Veyron.

By the end of lap, I'm, only 2.5 seconds back as the Veyron begins to slow on his worn tires.:)
The race leading Bugatti Veyron pits at the end of lap # 8, so as I begin lap # 9, I find myself in 2nd place, only 2.6 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.

Lap # 9 goes smoothly, so as I begin lap # 10 I pull up to the rear-bumper of the race leading Enzo and hound him for the first half of lap # 10. Near the end of the lap, I make my move going thru the tight chicanes, but screw the pooch and skid off into the grass:ouch: This allows the Enzo to scoot away and he takes the win.:(

Finishing order:
1. Enzo Ferrari --- Race time: 24:40.155
2. me in the Skyline....11.662 seconds back
3. Diablo GT..............21.711 secs back
4. Ford GT................22.174 secs back
5. Viper SRT10..........22.880 secs back
6. Viper GTS.............29.3 secs back

See you on the track!

Not liking the results of my race just above, I ask my fabled pit-crew for some more tuning work, so my Nissan Skyline GTR Vspec II R34 '02 now has the following specs:

PPvalue: 493
Horsepower: 371
Weight: 1450
P.Limiter: 94.1%
Tires: Sport Hard
SRF: Off

The same lineup is still sitting on the grid:
1.Bugatti Veyron
2.Enzo Ferrari
3.Viper SRT10
4.Ford GT '06
5.Viper GTS '13
6.TZ3 Stradale
7.MB SLS AMG
8.458 Italia '09
9.Reventon '08
10.Diablo GT '00
11.GTR Black Edition
12.Ferrari 599 '06
13.Jag XKR-S '11
14.Ferrari F40 '92
15.Corvette Stingray C7
16.me in the Skyline

The flag drops and we're off again!
On lap # 1, I begin my drive thru the field and end the lap in 13th place some 13.9 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 2, I pass three more cars and end the lap in 10th place, still some 13.9 seconds behind the race leader.

Lap # 3 is somewhat compromised by some off-roading:guilty: so I'm only able to pass the 9th place Alfa TZ3 Stradale and I end the lap still some 10.5 seconds behind the race leading Bugatti Veyron.

On lap # 4, I pass the 8th place Lambo Diablo GT and the 7th place Lambo Reventon. The Bugatti Veyron pits at the end of lap # 4, so as I begin lap # 5, I see that I have climbed up into 6th place only 6.2 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.

On lap # 5, I catch and pass the 5th place SRT Viper GTS and the 4th place MB SLS AMG and then dive into the pits at the end of the lap for a new set of SH tires and 24 liters of fuel.

At the first checkpoint on lap # 6, I see that I've fallen 23.4 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari due to my pit-stop. The Enzo Ferrari pits at the end of lap # 6, so I drive past and take over the lead of the race and open up a 5.2 second lead by the end of the lap.

My lead is still 5.4 seconds by the end of lap # 7, and its 7.6 seconds by the end of lap # 8.

By the end of lap # 9, I have a 8.7 second lead over the Enzo Ferrari who doesn't seem to be chasing very hard.:)

Lap # 10 is just a cruise to the Finish:)

Race time: 24:42.461

Finishing order:
------------------
1. me in the Skyline
2. Enzo Ferrari.......10.512 secs back
3. Ford GT '06........11.614 secs back
4. MB SLS AMG......12.765 secs back
5. Viper SRT10.......14.270 secs back
6. Viper GTS...........18.220 secs back
7. Diablo GT...........18.607 secs back
8. Veyron...............29.655 secs back
9. Reventon............33.5 secs back
10. GTR Black Ed.....34.4 secs back
11. TZ3 Stradale......1:01.4 secs back
12. 458 Italia...........1:05.4 secs back
13. Corvette Sting....1:07.5 secs back
14. Ferrari 599.........1:14.2 secs back
15. Ferrari F40.........
16. Jag ZKR-S.........

Post race notes:
-------------------
The second attempt had a much better result.:) An enjoyable race, my Nissan Skyline does quite well. The race was against the exact same AI drivers and cars, so its my feeling that the Enzo Ferrari must have gotten discouraged once I got into the lead so he didn't push his car as hard during the last few laps. I have found that its best to not cut the chicanes excessively because the game will give you 3-second penalties if you do.

Enjoy the racing!

I was going to de-tune my Nissan Skyline a bit and give it ago against the same lineup as above, but while changing the suspension on my Skyline, my game locked up completely and I had to re-boot, so I'm going to have to run against a different lineup.

A little more tuning by my pit-crew and my Nissan Skyline GTR Vspec II Nur. R34 '02 has the following specs:

PPvalue: 491
Horsepower: 367
Weight: 1460
P.Limiter: 96.6%
Tires: Sport Hard
SRF: Off

The new lineup has the following cars on the grid:
------------------------------------------------------
1. Bugatti Veyron '13
2. Enzo Ferrari
3. Aventador LP700
4. STR Viper SRT10
5. Corvette ZR1 C6
6. Ford GT '06
7. Viper GTS '13
8. TZ3 Stradale
9. MB SLS AMG '10
10. 458 Italia '09
11. Murcielago LP640
12. Gallardo LP560-4
13. Cizeta V16T '94
14. Jag XKR-S '11
15. Corvette Stingray C7
16. me in the Skyline

The flag drops and we're off!

On lap # 1, I begin my drive thru the field and end the lap in 14th place some 16.3 seconds behind the race leader.

By the end of lap # 2, I'm in 11th place, now 17.1 seconds behind the race leading Bugatti Veyron who scampers away on his nice fresh tires.

On lap # 3, I pass the 7th place Ford GT and end the lap only 13.6 seconds behind the race leading Bugatti Veyron.

On lap # 4, I have a tough battle with the 6th place SRT Viper GTS before I finally get past him. The race leading Veyron pits at the end of lap # 4, so as I begin lap # 5, I see that I am only 8.4 seconds behind the new race leading Enzo Ferrari.

At the end of lap # 5, I follow the Lambo Aventador and the Chevy Corvette ZR1 into the pits for a new set of SH tires and 28 liters of fuel. While I am in the pits, I get passed by the Ford GT and the Lambo Gallardo who have decided to run 6 laps on their first set of tires.

At the first checkpoint on lap # 6, I get the news that I have fallen 25.6 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari, who must be slowing somewhat on his worn tires (I hope:nervous:). I'm in 5th place in the race, because my highly-paid pit-crew got me out of the pits before both the Aventador and the Corvette ZR1.:) At the end of lap # 6, the race leading Enzo Ferrari pits and then gets back under-way just as I reach the S/F line at the end of lap # 6, so when I see the 17 second split-time, my pit-crew radios me that the split-time is meaningless and should be ignored.

As I get to the end of the S/F straight at the beginning of lap # 7, the Chevy Corvette ZR1 comes past me and takes over the race lead. This happens just before the Enzo Ferrari comes out of the pits and joins the race in 2nd place, and I get slotted into 3rd place. At the end of lap # 7, I'm 2.1 seconds behind the race leading Corvette ZR1 after chasing hard the entire lap.

On lap # 8, I get past the 2nd place Enzo Ferrari when he gets a little loose coming out of one of the tight hairpins, so I end the lap in 2nd place only 0.751 seconds behind the Chevy Corvette ZR1 after a new lap record of 2:23.019 (draft aided though).

On lap # 9, we all catch and pass the 16th place Jaguar XKR-S just after the kink which is just before the final right-hand sweeper that leads onto the S/F straight. At the end of the lap I'm still 0.753 seconds behind the Chevy Corvette ZR1, so I lost 2 thousands of a second during the lap.:nervous:

On lap # 10, I follow the Corvette ZR1 for the 1st half of the lap and then slide past him going thru the tight chicanes at the top of the track, and take over the race lead!:) Maintaining a middle-of-the-track line, I race to the Finish Line in first place!:)

Race Time: 24:39.000

Finishing order:

Post race notes:

Great race! I got surprised by the Corvette ZR1 when he came past me at full-speed:eek:, so I had to drive hard the rest of the race to stay with him, and then re-pass him near the end.:) The Enzo Ferrari fell back a bit since he would sometimes have troubles when exiting the tight hairpins, and was losing time due to a loose rear-end.

See you on the track!

Tyre wear and fuel use wasn't a real factor. (I think I took it easy for the first few laps just to assess how much life the tyres had.)
This is a very modest car but you can chuck it about the track - The AI will destroy you on the straights - Don't weave and block, let them through as you get to four wheel drift as you overtake them through the corners... forcing you to take new, different and fun lines as I had to pass and re pass a lot of cars before the AI gave up in the last few laps.

I decide to change cars and run my trusty Honda NSX, so after some tuning my Honda NSX Type R '02 has the following spec's:

PPvalue: 485
Horsepower: 316
Weight: 1200
P.Limiter: 97.3%
Tires: Sport Hard
SRF: Off

Sitting on the grid are the following cars:
-------------------------------------------
1. Enzo Ferrari
2. Aston One-77 '11
3. Murcielago LP670
4. Chevy Corvette ZR1
5. Viper GTS '13
6. TZ3 Stradale '11
7. MB SLS AMG '10
8. Ford Shelby GT500
9. Diablo GT '00
10. Murcielago LP640
11. 430 Scuderia '07
12. Nissan GTR Black Ed.
13. Lexus LFA '10
14. Chevy Corvette Z06 C6
15. Audi R8 5.2 quattro
16. my NSX Type R

The flag drops and we're off!

On lap # 1, I pass the Audi R8 quattro and end the lap in 15th place some 14.2 seconds behind the race leader.

By the end of lap # 2, I'm in 10th place, some 11.4 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 3, I battle past the 8th place Lambo Murcielago LP640 and end the lap only 8.0 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.

Near the end of lap # 4, I pass the 5th place Lambo Diablo when he gets a little loose going thru the tight left-hander at the top of the track, just before the final right-hander that leads onto the S/F straight. After a new lap record of 2:23.521 I'm only 6.2 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.

At the end of lap # 5, the 2nd place Chevy Corvette ZR1 and the 3rd place Lambo Murcielago LP670 pit from just in front of me, so I decide to continue on since my tires seem fine, so when I cross the S/F line to begin lap # 6, I see that I'm only 2.1 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.:)

During lap # 6, I closely follow the Enzo and then follow it into the pits at the end of the lap for a new set of SH tires and 2 liters of fuel.

When I exit the pits and begin lap # 7, I find myself in 1st place with a 1 second lead over the Enzo Ferrari who had a slower pit-stop than me.:) Just at the end of the long back-straight, the Enzo Ferrari whacks my right-rear fender and my NSX spears off into the grass on the right side of the track:ouch:, so I lose my 1st place position to the Enzo who opens up a five second lead over me by the end of the lap.:(

During lap # 8, I chase hard after the Enzo and gain back about 2.5 seconds so I'm only 2.8 seconds behind at the end of the lap.

By the end of lap # 9, I'm only 0.653 seconds behind the Enzo Ferrari.:)

On lap # 10, I pass the 1st place Enzo Ferrari going thru the tight chicanes at the top of the track and drive to the Finish for the win!:)

Race time: 24:47.439

My Honda NSX was a little too strong for the AI, so it should have been a relatively easy race, but when the Enzo punted me off the track I had to scramble hard to get back in touch. I will de-tune my NSX some more and give it another go.:)

See you on the tracks!

Tyre wear and fuel use wasn't a real factor. (I think I took it easy for the first few laps just to assess how much life the tyres had.)

Hmmmm....maybe the light-weight gives the Garaiya too much of an advantage if you can skip the pit-stop and still record decent laps at the end.

Were you on sport soft tires for the race?

I think that I may have to include a rule that a pit-stop is mandatory to equalize the cars more, though lightweight cars will still have an advantage since they will need less fuel and therefore will have shorter pit-stops.

Thanks!

14. Chevy Corvette Z06 C6
15. Audi R8 5.2 quattro

The flag drops and we're off!

On lap # 1, I begin my usual drive thru the field and end the lap in 13th place some 13.3 seconds behind the race leader after a very good opening lap.

On lap # 2, I pass the 11th place Nissan GTR Black Ed. and end the lap 9.3 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.

On lap # 3, I pass the 7th place Ferrari 430 Scuderia and end the lap 6.7 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari after a lap record of 2:24.199.

On lap # 4, I pass the 3rd place SRT Viper GTS and end the lap only 4.9 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari after a new lap record of 2:23.143.:)

On lap # 5, I pass the 2nd place Chevy Corvette ZR1 and end the lap only 0.879 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari. My tires still feel fine, so another lap is in order.

At the end of lap # 6, I follow the race leading Enzo Ferrari into the pits for a new set of SH tires and 2 liters of fuel. I'm shown as being 1.7 seconds behind as I cross the S/F line in the pits. I take on less fuel than the Enzo Ferrari, so I get underway before he does, and take over the race lead after hitting the invisible wall at the end of the pit lane.:ouch:

By the end of lap # 7, I open up a 0.729 second lead over the Enzo Ferrari.:nervous:

By the end of lap # 8, I have opened up a 1.6 second lead over the Enzo Ferrari after a new lap record of 2:22.998:)

By the end of lap # 9, my lead has ballooned out to 8.1 seconds as the Enzo Ferrari has decided to cruise and give me the win.:)

Another relatively easy win!:) The Enzo Ferrari gave chase for the first two laps after the pit-stop, but then he just seemed to let me take the win. I also ran a nearly faultless race (for me;)). I'm getting used to the Honda NSX, so I'm able to push it harder but still maintain control, which is necessary because it sometimes wants to let its rear break-free and make your life exciting.

The Garaiya was on Sport Soft tyres - I had run at Willow Springs - and had a hoot... so boxed up the car flew over to Spain (This montage needs a big map of North America and the Atlantic and a nice red line heading east.)

And I had a scream at Ascari too. The fun bit was the near constant over take/ lose a place -

Was going to run the Amuse 380RS - but it is a tuned car - so no dice...

---
Overall the same for Willow Springs works here - Lightweight makes things easy as you can avoid a stop for tyres and a lack of power keeps the fuel use in check. - If you want to be tough you could run a minimum weight class... Having a heavy or powerful car can be a disadvantage.

Track
It has to be pointed out that the final tight left hander of the lap (Hill if you are like me and like the corner names) can catch you out... and if you return to the track a distance from where you left the track the stewards may ignore the lap when you cross the line... turning an easy run for a win into a desperate battle for 14th place with a Mustang and a Caddy. Once you learn the track this isn't an issue, but worn tyres and a bit of doorhandle on doorhandle action could result in you visiting those well modelled sand traps.

worth a quick peek here for the map and a sneaky real life incar lap or two.

Time for another attempt with my Honda NSX, so after some more tuning my Honda NSX Type R '02 has the following spec's:

PPvalue: 474

Tires: Sport Hard

Sitting on the grid are the same cars:

The flag drops and we're off!

On lap # 1, I begin my drive thru the field and end the lap in 12th place some 11.9 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 2, I pass the 10th place Alfa TZ3 Stradale and end the lap only 5.9 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari who has really bunched up the field.:)

On lap # 3, I battle past the 5th place Lambo Diablo GT (who is tough and fast:eek:) and end the lap only 4.1 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.

On lap # 4, I pass the 3rd place Lambo Murcielago LP670 and end the lap only 2.1 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari.

On lap # 5, I pass the 2nd place Chevy Corvette ZR1 and end the lap only 0.635 seconds behind the race leading Enzo Ferrari, as we both begin lap # 6.

I follow the Enzo Ferrari during lap # 6, and then follow him into the pits at the end of the lap for a new set of SH tires and 2 liters of fuel. The split-time says 2.1 seconds though I felt that I was closer than that when I entered the pits.

After a quick pit-stop, I beat the Enzo out of the pits, and even after the mandatory impact with the invisible pit-wall, I take over 1st place in the race!:ouch::)

During lap # 7, the Enzo Ferrari passes me on the long back-straight, but I re-pass him going thru the tight chicanes at the top-right of the track. At the end of the lap I have a 0.063 second lead over the Enzo, who has my red side-indicators flashing.:nervous:

The Enzo Ferrari beats me into the first chicane on lap # 8:(, so I get to follow him for the rest of the lap, which ends with the Enzo having a 0.697 second lead over my NSX.:nervous:

On lap # 9, I twice pull along-side the Enzo when he gets loose coming out of the tight corners, but I can't complete the passes before he can re-accelerate past me, so at the end of the lap he still has a 0.406 second lead over me.

As we begin lap # 10, the Enzo gets loose going thru the 1st chicane, so I'm able to dive to the inside and take the apex of the 1st tight left-hander just after the chicane and take over the race lead.:) I maintain about a full second lead over the Enzo for most of the lap because the Enzo keeps putting his outside wheels into the grass on the exit of the tight corners, which keeps slowing him down.:) I just catch the 16th place Ford Shelby as I cross the Finish Line for the win!

Very true!!! The Hill was quite a challenge the first thirty or forty times I drove thru it, and on many occaisions, I found myself off the track in various un-wanted positions, brushing the sand and grass off my helmet's visor!! I've learned to take it a bit easier, which is possible since the AI also struggle with the corner.

Another corner that can catch the un-wary is Gachot, the tight hairpin which comes just before the long back-straight. Its easy to carry too much speed into the corner, so you end up going wide, out on to the grass on the exit, and this will compromize your exit from the corner. You need a good exit from this corner to give yourself a little cushion since the AI will inevitably power up to your rear-bumper by the kink, or even blow past you if you get a bad launch.

Thanks for the track names:tup: I didn't really know what to call most of them.
See you on the track!

Nice to look at a map every so often!

30_Circuito-Ascari-Race-Resort.jpg

Gachot - I had it in my head it was a sharp 90° bend... but looking at the map it is 130° maybe more... No wonder the sheer length of it catches me out.

The following Straight is odd too. You have the fast right kink of Brundle - but the AI will wander from the left to the middle of the track after Brundle... not sure why, didn't seem bumpy. But if you are in traffic here, be aware they may lean on you a bit if you try for a pass.

I'll bolt on some Sporty Hards and give this race a go.

Yeah, watching the AI drift right as they accelerate past the Brundle kink is always entertaining and makes me wonder why they do it.:odd: My first thought was that they were trying to shake any cars trying to get a draft, but usually, I'm not actually close enough to the AI at that point to really catch their draft, so I'm not sure what the answer is.

The AI also take an interesting line as they enter the pits. They always seem to wait until the last second and then cut across the pit-lane entrance line from quite a bit further down the track than you would think. They really seem to be making a last second decision to enter the pits. Waaaay past where any pit-entrance cones would be (if there were any). They should get a penalty for an improper pit-entrance, if you ask me.:irked::lol:

Considering this is a mid engined car their is alot of weight over the front axel. Car felt benign handling wise. Grip didn't feel good .
I painted the car in Taka Bo Red.
Started off and the pack seemed to thin out and pull away. I had to remind myself that I was going to have to stop, and hard tyres would let me run amok until my first stop - So I drove like was I 9 months pregnant and in Hospital... (Push Push Push!)
I wasn't in that much traffic. I expected a repeat of my run in the Garaiya - I was easing up to the back of the car ahead. Even on Sport Hard tyres there are two parts of the track -
Croners and Combinations - Where you are fast and the AI are slow...
and
Straights - Where certain AI cars steam long like they are in a hurry.

I made a few mistakes. The 3400S wasn't as balanced as the Garaiya - Maybe this is a tyres issue rather than a chassis confidence thing.
The AI were not running in formation, early on Lap 4 the Aston of Ebner lost control and left a huge cloud of burnt rubber ... I managed to help myself to two places on the short run to the Senna Esse (Reminds me more of a flatter, less inspirational Motegi combination) passing the R8 and the Aston.
On Lap 8 I was running down the Enzo when I forgot to brake for "Sebring" (Fast blind uphill right that leads to the 'Great Soprendo' corner "Piff Paff (Puff)" ) I ran into the dark sand track but then dug my way back onto the track before the silly chicane - The Stewards let me get away with it... but I lost 7-8 seconds with the off.
I also had a bish bash bosh with Probst's beefy Bugatti that looked like his ex wife had had a stress releiveing session with a sledgehammer on it by the time he came up behind me after being miles and miels behind at Gaschot (Pepper Spray). He tried to barrel through at Sebring/Piff Paff (Puff) but I held my line and nerve and just got bashed by the Bug. then on the run to Little Eau Rouge he went for the left side of the track behind me and just harpooned me. I caught the slide, but ended up in the gravel on the right...

Didn't really get close to the win. The lead car bolted away and I was 30 seconds down after a lap. I know I could have gone faster - tyre wear is not an issue and the stop didn't take long at all, and a lap 5 stop had no traffic to slow me down. I'd only need to go 30 seconds faster for the win. 20 seconds without the Bugatti thumping me and my own off road, so only 2 seconds a lap to find... And you can see from my laps (Save 5 and 6 which are in and out laps) I was not running consistent laps - All 2m24s with neat in and out laps... Very possible if I get the Huarya/FXX grid.

On an Aside I had a Ferrari California in my race, but I didn't get the girls name. (Only the LayDees drive convertible Ferraris after all.)

I decide that its time for a post V1.06 attempt, so after some more tuning my trusty and fully broken in Honda NSX Type R '02 has the following spec's:

PPvalue: 470
Horsepower: 291

The flag drops once again we're off!

On lap # 1, I drive thru the field as usual and end the lap in 10th place some 12.9 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 2, I pass the 9th place Nissan GTR and end the lap 7.9 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 3, I pass the 4th place Lambo Reventon and end the lap 7.8 seconds behind the race leading Bugatti Veyron.

On lap # 4, I pass the 3rd place MB SLS AMG going thru the "Hill" and then see that the race leading Veyron has taken to the pits. At the end of the lap I'm only 3.9 seconds behind the race leading Lambo Aventador after a lap record 2:22.999.

On lap # 5, I pass the 1st place Aventador going thru the Piff-Paff chicane and take over the race lead.:) The Aventador pits at the end of lap # 5, but I don not, so when I get to the 2nd checkpoint on lap # 6, I see that I have opened up a 20.8 second lead over the 2nd place Lambo Gallardo who hasn't pitted yet.

I pit at the end of lap # 6 for a new set of SH tires and 2 liters of fuel (the game told me to add 1 liter). After a quick pit-stop, I'm released from the pits, and get under-way again without hitting the invisible pit-wall.

At the 2nd checkpoint on lap # 7, I see that I have a 15.8 second lead over the 2nd place Lambo Aventador who has re-gained 2nd place after everyone cycles thru the pit-stops.

By the end of lap # 8, my lead has grown to 24 seconds over the Aventador.

By the end of lap # 9, my lead has grown to 35 seconds over the Aventador.

Lap # 10 is just a cruise to the Finish.

What the heck? Why was everyone so slow?
I'm worried that the V1.06 update has changed this race, and not for the better.
More testing is required.

After the above race, I took a look at the Aventador's final laps, and he was running lap times in the 2:33.x to 2:34.x range which is 8 seconds off his lap times from earlier in the race. He also took on a nearly full load of fuel, so his pit-out lap was a slow 2:54.109. No wonder he fell so far back.

See you on the tracks!

I think some grids are fast - and others are slow, and it is down to the cars. Same is true at Willow Springs - Get a McLaren F1, or a Huayra or a FXX or even an Enzo and you will have a swift car pulling away - get a grid without these ... usual suspects and the best of the AI will be much slower.

I guess we just need to run races, and note down which AI cars are posting good times.

Trouble is getting a repeat performance. But Given enough data we could skew PP scores of our cars to the "weight" of the AI grid... big tough AI grid of McLarens and Paganis... you get an extra 10pp - a weak feeble grid of Bugattis and Mercedes at the pointy end and you have to take a PP penalty on your own car - Just to make the end result closer.

Maybe just total up the race time of the top three AI cars to get a rough strength of that Grid. (I'll have to note down the cars too!)

I've always found the AI here start well but for some reason they do tend to cool down near the end. Maybe they have B Spec driver stats and when they are on their own they relax and slow down? They never seem to show this at Willow Springs though.

Nice race!👍

The overall race time of the 2nd place MP4-12C is in the ball-park of what I would like everyone to run against if this was possible and repeatable. The spread among the AI cars is fairly reasonable, though the 13 second gap from 2nd to 3rd is a bit more than I would like.

We might all have to run against the same fast lineup to get reasonably comparable results. I didn't want to force a particular lineup for everyone, because this would eliminate the race variety, and repeating the race becomes a bore because every race un-folds in a similar manner for everyone, so it becomes quite un-interesting to read about.

Maybe we could find two or three fast grids and make these grids the required AI lineups.

What do you all think?

Respectfully,
GTsail

Having read all these reports I thought I'd have a go as well.

Knowing I'm definitely not as fast as you guys I chose a much more powerful car for my attempt.

The McLaren MP4-12C

With 600bhp and 581PPs this should be enough to beat the opposition. As usual TC=0 and ABS=1 and no SRF.

The grid lines up as;

Pagani Huayra
Lambo Aventador LP700-4
MP4-12C
Viper SRT10 ACR
Viper GTS
Alfa TZ3 Stradale
Mercedes SLS AMG
Ferrari 458
Lambo Reventon
Ferrari 430 Scuderia
Lambo Gallardo LP560-4
Lexus LFA
Audi R8 5.2 FSi
Corvette Stingray C7
Aston V12 Vantage
Me in MP4-12C

Lap 1 - I pass the Aston at the first corner and start to catch the Corvette around Brundle and then pass him at Sebring (the AI consistently slow here). I also manage to pass the Audi R8 on the run to the line.
Time = 2:23.381 +18s

Lap 2 - I pass the LFA just before Gachot and then the Gallardo after that. It's all going well and the tyres don't seem to be wearing much at all. Passed a Ferrari at Sebring/Piff-Paff.
Time = 2:22.370

Lap 3 - I pass the Alfa at the start of the lap but make a mistake and he get back at me again, but I make it stick and I'm up to 7th and chasing the Merc SLS. A small off at Gachot, but I get him at Piff-Paff again and finish the lap in 6th.
Time = 2:23.700

Lap 4 - Tyres are at 90% and fuel at about 50% so all on course for a pitstop at the end of the next lap (5). Pass the Viper SRT10 at Brundle for 4th place.
Time = 2:22.179

Lap 5 - Pass the Aventador before Gachot to take 3rd 8 secs behind leading Huayra and McLaren. Pit at the end of the lap just behind the Huayra and 3 others follow me in.
Time = 2:27.225

Lap 6 - Out just behind Huayra and find it's a bit more slippy out there (perhaps cold tyres after pitstop?). The other MP4 is in the lead 30 seconds ahead and I'm in 8th. I pass a couple of the slow AI and with the rest of the field pitting I finish the lap in 3rd.
Time = 2:46.385

Lap 7 - The 3 of us are about 15 seconds ahead of the rest now so it's a straight fight to the finish. I catch up to about 3 secs behind the McLaren, but a mistake at Hill puts me on the grass and I drop back.

Finish the lap still in 3rd just over 3 secs behind.
Time = 2:22.135 (my best time)

Lap 8 - I catch the other MP4 again and try to get past at Piff-Paff, but don't make it. Another error at Hill means I finish the lap still in 3rd and 3.3 secs behind.
Time = 2:22.576

Lap 9 - Another poor lap! Can't blame tyres so it must be my carelessness. I drop back to +5.07s
Time = 2:24.627

Lap 10 - The other McLaren passes the Huayra at Rafael and amidst a cloud of tyre smoke. The Huayra then spins out on the way to Copse and I pass to take 2nd. The replay shows his SM tyres are down at 50% and he smokes them in just about every corner.

There's a Pagani in there somewhere

I'm 6.2 secs behind the McLaren though and it's a hopeless task. I finish 5.8s back.

Result:
MP4
Me (MP4) +5.8s
Huayra +11.2s
Aventador +38.5s
430 +39.0s
SLS AMG +41.0s

I could have had the win with a but more care, but it was still a good race. I don't know how you guys manage it at less than 500PP, but hats off!

Cheers

Firstly My controller is still acting up. But I doubt that would have mattered much as the car I used was a big fat lump.

Maserati GrandTurismo S

489PP - 439bhp - 50 Torques 1780kg with SH tyres (No Aids- ABS=0 and Classic Dials view - DS3)

I had the Veyron/FXX/Huarya grid. Started out well enough but my car was slow, but it would loon about at times and the gears felt a bit too "Grand Tourer" and not enough "corse del circuito" -

My times?
(All 2 minutes + whatever)
*- Pitstop
Lap1/Lap2/Lap3/Lap4/Lap5/Lap6/Lap7/Lap8/Lap9/Lap10 (Race)
30.4/28.0/27.9/29.0/29.5/35.8*45.8/27.4/34.0/29.1 (25m30)

I stopped a Lap later that I usually do as I was in the traffic, and having fun... then I noted my tyres were a bit thinner - and I had doubts how fast I could lean on the car in the faster corners. I had an off (Sebring) - Same as usual I forgot to brake... ended up washing out into the sand trap.

The rest of the AI finished...
I.Moulin (Veyron) Started P1 - finished in 7th (2 pit stops)
22.2/24.6/23.2/29.3*51.4/30.7/28.7/33.9*44.7/29.0 (25m18)

This big fat White Whale reminded me a lot of John Surtees... Well the AI version of him in Grand Prix Legends.
(He would loom very large in your Mirrors in the only Honda (White car red strip - Monster V12) but he tended to rear end a lot of players (Also known as Notorious Early Brakers.)

My own race was well behind this chap until he pitted. I passed him but he returned to the track from out of the pit lane (He actually clobbered the end of the pit stall (Transparent Aluminium sheeting) - anyhow he bombed out of the pit lane... I was on the racing line minding my own business - But I had just gone through the slow chicane... Moulin was on fresh tyres and had just been steam Catapulted onto the track... WHAM! He slammed hard into the back of my Italian car, sending me into the end of the pit lane wall just next to the "tree" - Off balanced and with all five wheels Locked up (I was pulling a handful and a half of opposite lock as my rubber tyres on the road left suicide notes to the Goodyear factory.) Utter git!

His race was eventful as he made a few more places, only to lose them with a late lap 8 pit stop.

I.Kuimala (FXX) Started P2 Finished in 2nd (1 pit stop)
21.8/24.7/23.4/25.8/27.2/51.7/27.7/28.6/28.8/29.5 (24m50)

Had a real ding dong with Moulin's wide Bugatti and the Pagani of Koenig. Generally fair but he was also prone to some serious leadfootitis out of slow corners - displaying a worrying amount of wheel spin for a Ferrari Driver.

H.Koenig (Huayra) Started P3 Finished in 1st (1 pit stop)
23.6/19.2/22.2/28.5/27.2*43.0/25.7/26.5/28.2/27.8 (24m34)

Was obviously faster than the rest, and he was an advocate of the 'Rowdy Burns School of Gentleman Drivers'. His Pagani ended lap 3 looking like it had hit every body panel on the Bugatti and FXX ahead of it. Once he got the lead he pulled a small lead then almost coasted to an easy win.

L.Ebner (One-77) (Started in P4 Finished out of the top 10 (1 pit stop)
25.4/32.6/33.7/35.4/37.4*63.2/35.4/35.9/32.6/xx.x (Did not finish)

Herr Ebner started off well enough 2m25 isn't too shabby... unfortunately the following 8 laps he completed were littered with fishtails, slow needless brake tests and over enthusiastic exits from low speed corners. Wondering what the 63.2 means on the lap chart? He pulled an out lap of 3 minutes 2 seconds on lap 6 - some 20 seconds slower than Koenig managed.

W.Clark (ZR1)
Started in P5 - Finished in 5th place (1 pit stop)
24.9/27.0/26.7/28.3/38.8*53.0/30.9/27.0/28.3/28.2 (25m17)

In effect he dropped two places as the Aston of Ebner reversed through the pack and the All French Combination (Veyron and Moulin) surrendered to a second pit stop. He lost places to these guys, Cardenas and Vargas. (Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition to turn up in Mercedes and Lamborghinis though!)

A.Cardenas (SLS) (Started in P6 Finished in 3rd place)(1 pit stop)
24.7/25.6/26.5/24.7/28.5*50.1/27.2/31.6/29.9/25.9 (24m59)

T.Vargas (Diablo) Started in P7 and followed the AMG SLS of Cardenas over the line in 4th place. (24m59)

Looking at the numbers the AI start off pretty strong I that race, but faded very swiftly. ( I guess some of this is Polyphony just making sure that the cars spread out over the circuit to minimise processor workload, having too many cars in close formation - They run pretty hot for 3 laps than cool down for the rest of the race.

Not the most enjoyable race, heavy car and not a lot of engine and the gears didn't help matters either. Still the car does look nice. And the replay was entertaining to watch (I was just glad it didn't do something random like locking the view to "Look Right".

Good luck pilots!

I stopped mid race as I like. Down side was as I left my stop my car hit the Transparent Aluminium panel at the end of the pit stall head on... But I managed to leap frog The Aventodor of T.Melis in the pit lane (Lamborghini a bit thirsty I think!) I then moved into the lead when the cars that pitted on Lap6 erm, pitted. Rest of the race I held a workable lead and could pull away .

AI got a bit wild at times, Ebner (Aston-Martin Lagonda One-77) was having a good race but spun out at the tight right handed hairpin of "Oulton" - I felt a bit sorry for him.

After my too easy win against the Aventador (see post # 17 above), I decided to change cars and look for a faster AI lineup. So I purchase a new Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A '02 and give it some upgraded parts. After my pit-crew does their fabulous wrenching, I end up with the following spec's:

PPvalue: 472
Horsepower: 294
Weight: 1200
P.Limiter: 96.8%
Tires: sport hard
SRF: off

After a bit of lineup searching for a fast grid I settle on the following:
-----------------------------------------------------------
1. Ferrari FXX '07
2. Aventador
3. Enzo Ferrari
4. McLaren MP4-12C
5. Chevy Corvette ZR1
6. Ford GT '06
7. SRT Viper GTS
8. Reventon
9. Lambo Diablo GT
10. Nissan GTR Black Ed.
11. Lambo Gallardo
12. Corvette Z06 C6
13. Jag. XKR-S '11
14. Ferrari F40 '92
15. California '08
16. my Mazda RX-7

Lap # 1 ends with me in 13th place, 16.7 seconds behind the race leader.
Lap # 2 ends with me in 12th place, 18.7 seconds behind the race leader.
Lap # 3 ends with me in 10th place, 18.1 seconds behind the race leader.
Lap # 4 ends with me in 7th place, 16.9 seconds behind the race leader.
The race leading Ferrari FXX pits at the end of lap # 5, but I decide to continue on since my tires still seem fine.
Lap # 5 ends with me in 4th place due to the cars that pit, and I'm now 17.4 seconds behind the new race leading McLaren MP4-12C.
At the end of lap # 6, I follow the 3rd place Lambo Diablo GT into the pits, so we both join the McLaren MP4 who has already entered the pits. I get a new set of SH tires and 2 liters of fuel.
The McLaren MP4 beats me out of the pits and the Ferrari FXX drives past, so as I begin lap # 7, I find myself in 3rd place. At the end of lap # 7, I'm 4.7 seconds behind the race leading McLaren MP4-12C.
On lap # 8, I nearly catch the 2nd place Ferrari FXX, who has caught the race leading McLaren MP4, so I end the lap only 1.7 seconds behind the McLaren.
On lap # 9, I pass the 2nd place Ferrari FXX when he gets loose going thru Greenhalgh. The FXX passes me right back as we go up the Brundle back-straight, but then I re-pass him going thru the Piff-Paff chicane.:) At the end of the lap I'm only 0.531 seconds behind the race leading McLaren MP4.
During lap # 10, I push hard to catch the McLaren but can't make any in-roads, so I finish in 2nd.

After my close loss just above (see post # 24 above), I decide to re-run the race against the same lineup, so after my pit-crew does a bit more wrenching, my Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A '02 has the following spec's:

PPvalue: 473
Horsepower: 295
Weight: 1200
P.Limiter: 97.2%
Tires: sport hard
SRF: off

The lineup is still the following:
--------------------------------------
1. Ferrari FXX '07
2. Aventador
3. Enzo Ferrari
4. McLaren MP4-12C
5. Chevy Corvette ZR1
6. Ford GT '06

12. Corvette Z06 C6
13. Jag. XKR-S '11
14. Ferrari F40 '92
15. California '08
16. my Mazda RX-7

The flag drops and we're off again!

On lap # 1, I pass the 12th place Chevy Corvette Z06 going thru the Hill, and end the lap 15.5 seconds behind the race leader.

At the end of lap # 2, I'm still 15.6 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 3, I pass the 11th place Nissan GTR Black Ed. and end the lap 18.1 seconds behind the race leader.

On lap # 4, I pass the 7th place Ford GT and end the lap 20.2 seconds behind the race leading Ferrari FXX.

At the end of lap # 5, I'm right behind the 4th place Lambo Aventador when he dives into the pits. My tires are still fine, so I begin lap # 6 and see that I'm now only 15.5 seconds behind the race leading McLaren MP4. The 3rd place Ferrari FXX is already in the pits, so I take over his race position as I go thru the Rafael chicane at the beginning of the lap. On lap # 6, I pass the 2nd place Enzo Ferrari and follow the McLaren MP4 into the pits for a new set of SH tires and 2 liters of fuel. The McLaren MP4 beats me into the pits by 9.958 seconds.

I beat the McLaren MP4 out of the pits, but get passed by the Ferrari FXX just as I'm exiting the pit-lane, so I find myself in 2nd place as we begin lap # 7. At the end of lap # 7, I see that I'm still 1.5 seconds behind the race leading Ferrari FXX, and I have about a 3 second lead over the 3rd place McLaren MP4 (who isn't as fast this race as the previous one).

At the end of lap # 8, I'm still 0.906 seconds behind the race leading Ferrari FXX.

Near the end of lap # 9, we catch and pass the 16th place Jaguar XKR-S, which allows me to almost catch the 1st place Ferrari FXX, so I end the lap only 0.432 seconds back. The 3rd place McLaren MP4 has fallen back, so its only a 2-car race to the end.

I push hard on lap # 10, but can't quite catch the Ferrari FXX.:(

Another really close race!:)
But the result is the same, 2nd place for me:(

My Mazda RX-7 has enough speed, but the AI Ferrari FXX decided to run some very fast laps at the end.:( The Ferrari FXX threw down a 2:20.734 lap on # 10 (his fastest of the race), so I had no chance to catch him. The 3rd place McLaren MP4's best lap was a 2:21.183, but he ran this earlier on in the race and then just gave up and fell waaay back by the end (which is a bit strange since he won the previous race).

See you on the track!

On lap # 3, I pass the 7th place Lambo Reventon going thru the Piff-Paff chicane and end the lap still 9.3 seconds behind the race leading Ferrari FXX.

On lap # 4, I pass the 5th place Chevy Corvette ZR1 going thru Laguna and end the lap only 3.8 seconds behind the race leading Ferrari FXX.

On lap # 5, I pass the 2nd place McLaren MP4-12C going thru the Piff-Paff chicane (my favorite passing zone) and end the lap only 0.850 seconds behind the race leading Ferrari FXX with the McLaren MP4 right on my rear-bumper.

At the end of lap # 6, I follow the race leading Ferrari FXX into the pits for a new set of SH tires and 2 liters of fuel. I was about 2 seconds behind the Ferrari FXX when we entered the pits. The 3rd place McLaren MP4 follows us into the pits after another 2 seconds.

After the tire change, I get under-way about 2 seconds before the Ferrari FXX, however, my Mazda RX-7 hits the invisible pit-wall:ouch: so I lose my 2 second advantage and have the Ferrari FXX right on my rear-bumper as we go thru the Screw. On lap # 7, the FXX passes me going up the Brundle back-straight, but I re-pass him going thru the Piff-Paff chicane, so I end the lap with a slight 0.483 second advantage.:)

At the beginning of lap # 8, the Ferrari FXX drives past me going thru the Screw, so I have to chase hard during lap # 8, and end the lap fully 3.4 seconds in arrears at the end.:(

On lap # 9, I pass the Ferrari FXX going thru the Piff-Paff chicane and end the lap with a 1.4 second lead.

On lap # 10, I catch and pass the 16th place Jag. XKR-S going thru Greenhalgh. The 2nd place Ferrari FXX gets held up by the Jaguar XKR-S going thru the Gachot hairpin, so I accelerate up the Brundle back-straight with a comfortable lead.:) and cruise to the finish.

A decent race!:) Finally, my RX-7 wins a 1st place trophy!:)
The Ferrari FXX was strong for most of the race, but then on laps nine and ten he slowed down enough to let me win. After the race I took a look at the FXX's laps, and he set a lap record of 2:19.958:eek: on lap # 8, but then he eased up, and ran a 2:27.614 on lap # 9, and a 2:26.618 on lap # 10.

Interestingly, once again, the McLaren MP4 just disappeared from the front of the race, once we got to the pit-stops.

Wow - I was planning to run my own RX7 as I was short of time for the recent Time Trial at SSR5 (Managed a just outside the top 1000 on my first lap. And best of my racing buddies with ABS=0 - The set up (memory check) Jujiro Matsuda (hope I remembered that right) Took it to 500PP and had all sorts of black art "Wrenching" 0.0° tyre camber. Added power--- then the engine was power limited (??) and endless fun trying to get the gear ratios right. (Why can't you just plug in any ratio you like - if you are dumb enough to plug in silly numbers then tough... but let me put something!)

Car felt - funny but fast.

I was planning to run it... Then run the From the show room spec version - or a "Set up b" version of my Time Trial car to see how much variables you get from tuning.

Who was driving that Ferrari California!!

Mazda RX7 Spirit R Type A "Jujiro Matsuda Tune 500pp for SSR5"
500PP - 334bhp - 37Torques 1039kg with SH tyres (No Aids- ABS=0 and Classic Dials view - DS3)

The tune is nice, a bit of faff to buy everything and moulding the custom rear wing. And the micro sized sidewalls look more like a rubber band wrapped on a wheel hub.

Had fancy suspension trick LSD settings, gear ratios chiselled from granite. and racing exhaust pipes.

I then repeated the same grid - But I moved to my own "Set up B" by this set up guy from Portugal... "deFault" - I had to put the old seats back in, the glass in the windows, and the old bonnet of the car was bolted back on... (Aero was 0/15 - BUT could be adjusted to 0/0 to 0/100 - I hope 0/15 was stock)
Also the chassis stiffness I can't un-install. But that is closer to Stock than the 500PP super tuned version was!

Good fun, the lack of power meant I was full throttle in many places I pussy foot through with the 500pp tune. I'll run a normal RX7 without anything to see how it compares with my detuned - tuned car!

I have just finished an attempt where the above issue bit both the AI and myself:ouch::irked:

I'm running a race, and I'm in 5th place just behind the Lambo Diablo GT, who is just behind the Chevy Corvette ZR1 as we swing thru Laguna and head up the S/F straight on lap # 5.

The Lambo Diablo pulls out to the right to begin a pass on the Corvette ZR1 (since there's plenty of room on the right-side of the ZR1 since the ZR1 takes a wide-line) and the Corvette ZR1 decides that its time to pit, so he dives across in front of the Diablo who pushes hard on his right-rear fender (since the Diablo doesn't want to get pushed into the pit-entrance) and starts to spin-out the Corvette. I'm close behind and plow right into the door of the now side-ways Corvette.:banghead:

Both myself and the Corvette go flying off the track, while the Diablo continues on and begins lap # 6.

The Corvette doesn't actually make it into the pit-entrance (getting smacked by two cars kind of made him miss the pit-entrance).

I ended up aborting my race after this collision due to excessive grass and sand ingestion.:)

See you on the track!
